With the January trasnfer window open we continued to search throughout the world for players who would join us and strenghten the squad. With so few players willing to join a club as small as Barbastro we continued to struggle. We were very pleased to be able to announce the capture of Jose Moreno on a free transfer. Jose is a 22 year old spannish center back who our scouts believe will be a quality signings. This good news was short lived as Jose suffered a hib injury in his first training session with us and will be out for 2-3 months.

With the difficulty in finding players to join us, we decided to try and bring in a few older, more experienced players who will give us some squad depth. We enjoyed more success in this area and were able to bring in 31 year old Danilo Arrieta who can play up front or on the right. Although we dont expect Danilo to see much game time, he will act as good cover should we need him.

Danilo was joined at the club by another experienced player, Javier Dopico. Javier joined on a free transfer also and plays on the right wing. We are now well covered in midfield and attack although our defence and goalkeeping areas still need major strenghtening. We will continue to try hard to bring in reinforcements in this area before the window shuts.

Hercules (5th) 2-1 Barbastro(17th)

We came into this match 4 pts from safety. We felt this would be a tough game but we had to start pulling teams back into the relegation dog fight. We had a full strenght team to choose from here but the players just didn't perform. In truth it was a poor performance by both teams but we didn't desrerve anything from the game. This loss leaves us a massive 9 pts behind the team in 14th place and its starting to look like the bottom 6 teams will be left to fight out the relegation spots amongst themselves.

Shortly after this game the club clinched the signing of 22 year old spannish striker Bernado Nadal on another free. Bernado was added to the squad as he is a young promising striker who will hopefully be able to replace 33 yr old Uri in the coming years. Nadal is a former U21 international with 3 goals in his 4 games, hopefully he will be able to show his eye for goal in his time at Barbastro.

Barbastro (18th) 1-5 Levante (5th)

Lavante have been on a great run of late and were looking good to get into the playoff spots. Our squad was suffering from a few injuries which led to Dopico making his debut on the right wing. We had a fantastic start to the match with several great opportunities to take the lead but we couldn't beat the keeper. We were made to pay for this and suffered a sucker punch when they broke away to score. Our players seemed to drop their heads after this goal and he performance dropped dramatically. After going 2 goals down on the hour mark I had no choice but to go all out and try to get something from this game but it was to no avail and we went on to conceed a further 3 goals.

This game displayed just how poor our defence and goalkeeper is but with no players at all wanting to join it is getting more and more likley that we will have to make do with what we have. The only positives to be taken from this game were the performances of Dopico on his debut and Rafa grabbing his first goal for the club. Hopefully there will be plenty more to come from him. We must get ready now for our next game which is a huge 6 pointer.

Gramenet (16th) 1-2 Barbastro (19th)

With Gremenet already 4 pts ahead of me as well as being the team that all the bottom clubs are trying to catch, it was imperitive that we at least got a point from this game. A win here may once again for the upteenth time this season reignite a flame of belief and hope that this team can survive. It was a very close game with few chances for either side. The lack of quality players on display was clear to see as possession was lost time and again. Going in to the half time interval we found ourselves a goal down and looking like we were destined for relegation. But once again the team managed to turn it around just when they needed it most. We came out of the traps with all guns blazing and were rewarded for our good play when one of their defenders scored an own goal. We continued to press and we finally knicked a winner with 10 mins to go in the game as our center back scored from a corner. It was the first goal we had scored from a corner all season but it could yet turn out to be the most importany goal we get. Once again the team had given us renewed hope of survival. A win in the next game would see us with in touching distance of safety once more.

Barbastro (18th) 0-1 Elche B (9th)

We came into this game full of confidence and really though we could win it. Morale was high in the squad and everything was looking good. We started the game brialliantly and we had shot after shot but cudn't hit the target. Elche never threatened our goal and it seemed only a matter of time before we would score. Unfortunatly we just cudn't hit the target. Then, just as it looked like the game was going to finish 0-0 and give us another valuable point the hero of last week turned to villian as our center back scored a terrible own goal under very little pressure. Although Elche never even had a shot on goal, we managed to lose the match. I think that sums my defence up perfectly so far this season.

Hospitalet (9th) 5-0 Barbastro (18th)

It wasn't just the team that didn't look motivated anymore, I too was finding it hard to care about the survival of the club anymore. This pessimistic attitude was brought on to the pitch and it was no surprise we were spanked 5-0. The window had now closed and the squad still seemed very week at the back.

Although we have suffered some very disappointing results lately we were still only 7 pts from safety and 3 from the relegation playoff spot. With bottom club Huesca up next, I was beginning to find hope once more.

Huesca (20th) 2-1 Barbastro (18th)

Huesca were by far the worst team in the league, picking up only 10 pts in their 23 games so far this season. Their form lately had been surprisingly good though and they were unbeaten in their last 3 games. We were suffering a few injuries coming in to this squad but we felt if there was any team in the league we were capable of beating, Huesca were definitly that team. We started the game well and were looking comfortable. We found ourselves a goal up at the break and 45mins away from a huge win. But what is becoming some what of a trade mark of Barbastro, we decided to make it hard for ourselves again. We completly stopped playing and ended up losing the game 2-1 with the winner coming in the dying moments. This was a crushing blow to our survival hopes and I needed a few days off to refocus on the job in hand.

Although it has looked like we are destined for relegation several times already this season, it now appears that we are just too far behind to catch up. I have started to think seriously about a tactical change. With our defenders so bad, coupled with the fact our midfield and strikers are reasonably strong, I'm considering converting to a 3 centerback system which would hopefully allow me to play to my strenghts more than the current 4-4-2 system does. The downside to it would be the fact we could be even weaker at the back and it may turn out to be a "score one more than you" tactic. Which ever tactic we choose to continue with, one thing is for sure, if we dont start winning games we're going down.

With finances in the 2017/18 season at an all time low once again manager Phlapstito would have to use all of his scouting skills to bring in suitable players to finally lift Sant Andreau from liga B3.

To do this the manager turned to Lithuania and other Eastern European countries as they just could not afford to buy in good homegrown Spanish talent.

At the end of the first transfer window no fewer than 6 Lithuaians had joined Sant Andreu.

These were joined by a hungarian and surprisingly a good Spanish prospect whom Phlapstito decided to splash the bulk of his transfer funds on, paying sixty thousand.

Mindaugas Jankauskas, Lithuanian DC/DM, signed from FBK Kaunas for 3k.
Virginius Sidlauskas, Lithuanian ST, signed from Erkanas for 4k.
Paulius Brichkus, Lithuanian DM, signed from Ekranus on a free.
Darius Juska, Lithuanian ST, signed from Ekranus on a free.
Paul Amison, Hungarian ST, signed from ZTE for free.
Tomas Skinderis, Lithuanian DC, signed from FBK Kaunas for free.
David Rodriguez Suarez, Spanish AMLC, signed from Osasuna for 60k.
Andrius Slavickas, Lithuanian CB, signed from FBK Kaunas for free.

With these new faces Phlapstito hoped he would be able to compete in the league and once again gain a play off spot.

Sant Andreau at half way in the season found themselves just off the play off spots with the new signings starting to bed in nicely.

The Sants were then rocked by the news that their young Belgian keeper Jean-Pierre Boli whom Phlapstito had picked up for a paltry 1k the season before had attracted the interest of heavy weights Barcalona and Real Madrid.

These fears were confirmed when the Sants recieved a for them staggering offer from Barcalona of 1.3 million, which the Sant Andreu board had no hesitation in accepting due to the financial crisis at the club (debts had soared to 600k and losses were being recorded each month).

With a bidding war between Barcalona and Real Madrid in full swing, recently promoted side Elche under the management of Gaz Torino enter the fray with a bid of 1.5 million.

After much discussion in what many deemed was a surprise choice Boli with a heavy heart accepted Elches offer and packed his bags for the Spanish First Division.

Although the Sants lost their first choice keeper the cash injection was much needed and Phlapstito would now be able to offer more in wages and for the first time in years was below his salary cap.

Almost over shadowed by the departure of Boli was the arrival of yet another Lithuanian, striker Giedrius Kudzinskas who manager Phlapstito immediately affectionately nicknamed Bob.

With the arrival of Bob came the goals late on in the season that snuck Sant Andreau into the play off finals.

Unfortunately once again the Sant Andreau Bulls found themselves hornless as they went down meekly over two legs to the B2 champions Palencia.

Promotion from B3 would once again have to wait, but with finaces for the first time into the positives with the sale of Boli the future for Sant Andreau is a positive one.

The start of the 2018/19 season would not be a quiet one with money to spend in the transfer market to bring in new players of 500k it was departures that the media were talking about.

Phlapstito has long had the reputation of being able to find raw talent and then have the board sell them out from under him Vaclav Machacek being a prime example.

With so much media attention star central defender Jozef Basista had become unhappy and with only a year left on his contract and unwilling to sign another deal manger Phlapstito had no choice but to again cash in on one of his prized assets.

Basista joined Valladolid for 950k after arriving at Sant Andreau from Slovakian side Nitra for 2k in the 2014/15 season.

Once again Phlapstitos canny transfer dealings had netted the Sants a huge profit.

New faces again came flooding in to strengthen Sant Andreaus very european squad.

Tomas Zytautas, Lithuanian ST, signed from FBK Kaunas for free.
Martin Jurcik, Cech Republic ST, signed for free.
Vyacheslav Zaitsev, Russian GK, signed from Dinamo Moscow for 6k.
Souza, Brazilian AMRL, signed from Guaratingueta for 80k.

Now manager Phlapstito believed he had a squad capable of finally gaining promotion from the hell that is B3.

Sant Andreau started the season in fine form scoring 9 goals and only conceeding 1 in their first three games of the season.

The only blips in an impressive first half of the season were losses to Terrassa, Valencia Mestalla and twice to Badalona in the league and spanish cup.

With 13 games to play Sant Andreau find themselves in 2nd place in the division having won 13 drawn 7 and lost 3.

The form of Bob giving Sant Andreau the launching pad the Sants needed with 15 goals in 20 league appearences so far.

Along with Bob as a true talent in front of goal, the emergence of the solid central defensive pairing of Macial and Slavickas has given Sant Andreau fans the belief that maybe, just maybe this could be their year.

If the Sants can hold their nerve manager Phlapstito believes he has the squad and finally the finances to gain promotion.
