Figeures (12th) 3-3 Barbastro (16th)
Coming in to this game I was looking for a good performance but not too confident of a win. I was happy with how
we had started the game but midway through the second half we had found ourselves 3-1 down. After changing to a
an all out attack philosophy in the final part of the match we were able to pull 2 goals back and ended the game
3-3. My striker Uri getting the equaliser in injury time and appears to be my main hope in our fight to avoid
relegation. This point leaves the team on 7 points from the opening 7 games.
Barbastro (16th) 1-1 Terrassa (5th)
A terrific first half performance saw the team take a 1-0 half time lead and we looked like to continue our
impressive home form. Uri again had scored the all important goal. The second half continued much like the first
until our goalkeeper picked up a heavy knock. With no keeper on the bench to replace him he had to continue.
This knock looked to be the reason why he was helpless to prevent an equaliser from all of 25 yards. I would
have been confident of a fully fit keeper to save it but to be fair, he redeemed himself late on with an
important save one on one. Another game played, another point earned.
Villareal B (13th) 3-2 Barbastro (17th)
With our keeper picking up a bad knock in the last game we would have to do without him for up to 2 weeks. I
didn't have much faith in our young backup keeper but we had no option but to throw him in. He managed to
surprise a few people with his performance but unfortunately he was unable to prevent us from losing a very
close game. Their strenght in attack proved too much for our defence to cope with.
Alicante (10th) 3-2 Barbastro (17th)
This tough game was made almost impossible with the sudden plague of injuries to the Barbastro squad. With so
many players injured and ineligible we were only able to field a team and have 3 players on the bench. The make
shift team was evident from the first whistle as we found ourselves 3 goals down at half time. We rallyed near
the end and got 2 goals back but overall this was by far our worst performance of the season.
Barbastro (17th) 0-1 Reus (16th)
In what I considered to be our biggest match of the season so far, I was desperate for a win. Having produced
several good performances in recent weeks against stronger opposition, i was quietly confident we would be too
strong for Reus, especially since we have been strong in front of our own fans. My philosophy for the season was
by beating the lower teams in the league, coupled with picking up the odd home win against other teams we would
avoid relegation, so this made the game even bigger. Unfortunatly the game just didn't go our way. We dominated
from start to finish with over 60% possession throughout the game but we were stung in the last minute through a
vicious freekick. Who knows how important that goal may yet turn out to be.
Barbastro (18th) 3-1 Orihuela (12th)
For the first time in a few weeks I had a fully fit squad to choose from. I feared another defeat here could
have a devastating effect on the already low morale of the squad. Sitting in 18th position we could not afford
another slip up here. We started brightly and Orihuela seemed unable to cope with our bright strikers. Due to a
goal each from our strikers and a helping hand from one of their defenders we found ourselves sitting
comfortable 3 goals up. The solid performance from my players really lifted my spirits and hopes and given me
renewed inspiration that this team can survive. Not even a late consolation goal by them was able to dampen the
spirits.
Zaragoza B (15th) 3-1 Barbastro (18th)
We were dealt a blow here with the loss of our top goalscorer the day before the game. This seemed to rock the
players in what beforehand appeared to be a winable game. The game could not have gone more badly, with 2
penalties conceeded and several players picking up injuries. We never looked to be in the game and after the
final whistle we found ourselves 5 points from safety with top of the table Sant Andreau next up.
Barbastro (18th) 0-0 Sant Andreau (1st)
Anything here would be normally be seen as a bonus but in the poor position we find ourselves in as well as the
unexpected points we have dropped in games such as the one vs Reus, we needed to start winning some points back.
Both teams had their injury problems as both top goalscorers had to watch from the stands. This could have been
the deciding factor as the game ended in a boring 0-0 draw with few chances created. Our main threats appeared
to be from corners but the lack of ability from our big men was apparent as they struggled to hit the target
with free headers.
Alcoyano (15th) 3-4 Barbastro (19th)
Despite picking up a good point last week vs Sant Andreau we managed to drop a place to 19th in the league. I
was pleased to see the players did not let this affect them and the morale was high in the camp. A win here
would see us go level on points with our opponents and possibly get out of the relegation zone for the first
time in several weeks. This indicates just how close it is becoming at the bottom. The performance in this game
has left with me with no doubt that these players are willing and more importantly capable of staying in this
league this season. 2 goals each from my exciting looking strikers was the catalyst for the win today. It would
appear that the destiny of the team in the coming season will lie at the feet of these two impressive strikers.
Barbastro (16th) 2-3 Benidorm (9th)
Just when I felt that things had started to pick up and we would be able to put a run together to move up the
league, it comes back and kicks me in the teeth. With the amount of goals in games involving Barbastro it is
evident that we are capable of scoring, but our defence is just not good enough. This was the second last game
before the transfer window opens and we were looking high and low for strong replacements to bring in to the
squad. It had been rumoured that a number of brazilians were on the way.
Barbastro (18th) 0-2 Valencia B (10th)
Valencia had just hammered top of the table Sant Andreau 3-0 in their previous match so I wasn't expecting to
get much from them as we welcomed them to Barbastro. As it turned out, thats exactly what we would get. Nothing.
We were tottally outclassed here and were never likely to get a goal. My only consolation was that the window
had now opened and I would finally be able to strenghten the squad for the first time since my arrival at the
club.
We wasted no time in bring in fresh faces with close to 300k being spent on a 24yr old brazilian striker named
Rafa. He joins from the brazilian leagues with an impressive goal scoring record over the past few seasons. He
is accompanied by his compatriot and team mate Silva who is a strong central midfielder in his early 20's. The
center of midfield has been strenghtend further by the capture of Portugese U21 international Igor who is just
19 and expected to have a very bright furture at the club. Upon the announcement of these players the fans
bombarded local radio phone-in shows expressing their delight at all 3 signings. A Legend of the club has also
phoned me personally to express his delight at the arrival of Rafa.
This is only the start of the new recruits arriving at Barbastro but with the large majority of the transfer
budget now being spent it is likley that futher income of players will be through the loan system. We have had
several bids accepted and are now just waiting for the player to agree to join us. All in all we are confident
we will be able to strenghten the squad enough to allow us to push on for the second half of the season and
achieve our goal of survival.
Barbastro (19th) 0-0 Badalona (8th)
In the first game since our 3 new arrivals joined it would be interesting to see just how much they would be
able to strenghten the team. All 3 new signings went straight in to the team. Although the 3 were solid, it was
our Portugese U21 international Igor who seemed to grab the limelight with a man of the match performance which
included a 30 yard freekick cannoning back off the crossbar.
The new signings that have arrived at the club, as well as the new loan signings we should hopefully be getting
in the coming week or 2 has given me enough hope and belief that we can survive. Lying in 19th position half way
through the season shows it's going to be tough, but I new it was going to be tough when I took the job and I am
100% committed to seeing this team play b3 football again next season.
