After the first attempt at a HAM FM2007 Clan game went horribly wrong it has been decided to try and recreate the successful FM2006 game. As a result we are back in League One.
After a random draw for teams the initial line up on Thursday 11th January was:
Alistair Gillespie - Leyton Orient
David Harrop - Yeovil Town
Irtiza Shafaat - Bradford City
Matthew Webb - Crewe Alexandra
Nathaniel Nairn-Hawkins - Milwall
And after the first session, 2 more joined:
David Dunn - Doncaster Rovers
John Tidey - Northampton Town
Good luck to everyone, especially those playing in their first online game. You can keep up to date with the league table at H.A.M. Clan Website
As the newly installed manager of Leyton Orient in their 125th year.Tthe first thing Chairman Barry Hearn did was tell me to ensure the proud traditions were upheld. The expectations are to battle bravely against relegation and one look at the squad I could see why.
With a modest transfer budget I would have to do some wheeling & dealing. Before the first game I managed to sign 4 players plus 3 more on loans.
The first league game saw us travel to Bournemouth. Both sides made decent starts with Bournemouth having a goal ruled out for offside. We were given a boost on the half hour mark with Anderton being sent off for a bad challenge. Unfortunately in first half stoppage time Bournemouth took the lead. The second half was all about the Orient as we through everything at them. The pressure finally told when Echanomi scored an equaliser with just over 5 minutes to go. We nearly snatched a winner but a draw was probably a fair result.
Our first home game of the season saw us play host to Huddersfield. Huddersfield started really brightly taking the lead inside 10 minutes. We equalised against the run of play with a stunning McKenna, on loan from Spurs, free kick. 2 minutes later Echanomi had given us the lead, which we managed to hold onto until half time. Huddersfield equalised just before the hour mark before Echanomi scored with 20 minutes left to secure a fine 3-2 win.
I then had my first game against another human manager when Nathaniel's Milwall were the visitors. This game was over after 27 minutes as Milwall made a fast start scoring 3. We managed to pull 2 back by half time thanks to an own goal and another from Echanomi. We were thrown a lifeline in the second half when Milwall were reduced to 10 men with 25 minutes to go, but we were unable to take advantage. In the end this was probably a fair result.
Rotheram away was the next game. We made another poor start going 1-0 down after 13 minutes. We responded straight away winning a penalty which Lockwood converted and Rotherham were reduced to 10 men. Again we struggled to break down the 10 men and had to settle for a point in what was a fairly dull game.
The League Cup was next away to Brighton. The first half was pretty much a non event with no goals. The second half saw Brighton race into a 2-0 lead before Miller & Alexander leveled things up. We couldn't manage to snatch a winner and Brighton scored a screamer with 5 minutes of extra time left.
We looked to get back to winning ways at home to Scuunthorpe. We played really well in this game creating plenty of chances and restricting them. Unfortunately we could not score and conceded in stoppage time to lose 1-0.
The next game saw us back to winning ways in a 2-1 victory at Port Vale thanks to free kicks from McKenna & Easton. The last game of Monday's session saw us host toon's Northampton. A formation change as a result of players being unavailable proved inspired. We never let Northampton settle. We started really well creating several chances. Chambers gave us the lead just after the half hour mark before Dennehy scored on his debut to make it 2-0 at half time. Into the second half and Northampton started to come back into it but we held firm for a fine 2-0 win. This was our best performance of the season.
This left us in 10th place after 7 games, a good solid start.
From my first day as new Yeovil Town manager with a predicted finish of 21st in league one and only £30k transfer budget, I knew we had a tough job on our hands.
If we where to a successful season we had to bring some new blood into the squad, but with next to no money available for any new transfers we had to work fast to secure any bargain buys before the start of the season.
Even though we had an excellent set of pre-season results, coming up to the first game of the season against S****horpe we where only able to bring in a few new faces and with Sharp & Keogh to deal with I was not feeling confident.
And my concerns where justified with S****horpe winning 3-1 with Billy sharp scoring two yet we preformed quite well in parts and on another day we may have got something from the game and so not leaving me too disheartened going into the second game.
After the S****horpe game the transfers started to arrive and the results improved with the most noticeable and impressive against Northampton (managed by toon) winning 3-1 and by the end of the 2nd session we sit in 7th place on 12 points after 7 games and only 3 points off the top so all in all a good start to the season.
On to session 3 and we where just hoping to continue the good start of the season but the session didn’t start well losing the first game and drawing the next 3, even though we look good at home, away from home we looked less penetrating so I decided to change from my usual 3-5-2 and went with the traditional 4-4-2 away against Bristol City and looked good without scoring and early in the second half against the run of play Bristol City scored so I made a few changes and changed to a flat 4-2-4 formation playing 4 out and out forwards and it paid off instantly making the score 1-1 on the hour mark, for the next 30mins we dominated and with 90 mins on the clock we got a deserved win.
We also won our next league game before the last game of the session which saw the visit of Crewe in which we hardly gave them a kick but some how we only managed to get a 1-1 draw, so by the end of session 3 we ended up in 8th place with 25 points from 15 games and only 5 points from top spot.
The players have so far preformed better than expected and as long as we keep as many fully fit squad members as possible I can’t see why we can not finish in the playoffs.
The first game of Thursday's session saw us travel to the seaside to play Blackpool. We started brightly and took the lead through Gyaki. Blackpool equalised before Chambers scored to give us a 2-1 half time lead. The second half was a disaster as we conceded 3 goals in the first 15 minutes. We rallied late on but couldn't get back into it and lost 4-2. We looked to bounce back at home to Gillingham. Gillingham took the lead as we conceded a penalty after 2 minutes. We equalised 10 minutes later thanks to Chambers, after they were reduced to 10 men, before Gillingham took the lead again. We played them off the park in the second half but could not score and a third late on for Gillingham finished it.
Brighton were our next visitors as we looked to get back on track. This was quite simply our worst performance of the season. We were hammered 3-0 and never looked like scoring. We travelled to Carlisle next. This game was very similar to the previous one. We played reasonably well but never looked like scoring and Carlisle scored twice to win 2-0.
The next game looked tough away to Brentford. The first half was similar to the previous 2 games, but we didn't concede. The second half we produced an awesome performance and won 3-0 with goals from Asaba, Chambers & Gyaki. Hopefully this will prove to be the turning point. Oldham were the visitors as we looked to build on this. This turned out to be a really frustrating game. We took an early lead thanks to Asaba before Oldham equalised to make it 1-1 at half time. We started the second half on fire and raced into a 3-1 lead with goals from Mackie & Echanomi. Things started to go wrong as Oldham pulled one back before equalising in the last minute.
Back to back games with Forest came next, with an away game in the league first. We started brightly and took the lead through Asaba. Forest came back into it and equalised on half time. We produced a stunning second half performance and 2 goals in 2 minutes late on from Echanomi & Connor gave us a fine 3-1 win. We then played host to Forest in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. A pretty even first half saw Forest go in 1-0 up but down to 10 men. We did everything but score for 25 minutes, including having 2 cleared off the line, before Asaba finally levelled it. We pushed on to try and snatch a winner but we couldn't sneak one and the match went to penalties. Unfortunately the Forest players showed greater composure and won 3-2.
The final game of the night saw us play host to high flying Bradford. Bradford probably shaded the first half but it remained 0-0 at half time. The second half followed a similar pattern to the first. Just when it looked like we would hold out for a draw, Bradford took the lead. Then with 4 minutes left it looked like Asaba had earned us a point. It was not to be as Bradford scored the winner in stoppage time.
I'm the manager of Northamptoon (et it? And I can't even take the credit for it!) Basically halfway through the season I am bottom 10pts off safety and am either going to be sacked or will be relegated.
I am managing doncaster rovers. No big signings were made at in the first window, only loans as i believed the quality was there to get a top six spot (despite an initial budget of £75K). I was wrong, well, not entirely. Strength in depth has been the weakness, injuries contributing to poor form. Despite a good start to the seaon, poor form has seen us slip to 14th after 24 games, 14 points off the play-offs and 7 points off relegation. It will take great form to achieve destination championship now.
Monday's session saw us start away to Tranmere. We played really poorly in this game and were soundly beaten 3-0. Swansea were the visitors as we looked for a better performance. Unfortunately we put in exactly the same performance as the last game and were beaten 3-0 again.
There was a break from League duty as we played Swindon at home in the FA Cup. We made a good start and took the lead when Marcus Stewart opened his account. Our lead lasted 20 minutes before Swindon pegged us back. Things then went from bad to worse as we were reduced to 10 men 3 minutes later. We were awful in the second half conceding 3 more with Asaba pulling one back to make the final score 4-2. 10 goals conceded in 3 games is relegation form.
We went looking for a clean sheet to Bristol City. We played much better than the last few games, although that wasn't difficult. The first half was very even and we went in level. Into the second half and City took the lead after a goalkeeping mistake. We continued to press but never really looked like scoring and lost 1-0. It was Crewe at home next as we looked to break the losing streak. Danny Cadamarteri was brought into the starting 11 after serving a global ban. He made an instant impact scoring inside a minute. We played really well for the rest of the first half without increasing our lead. The second half was more of the same and 2 goals in 3 minutes killed the game. First Lockwood scored a penalty before Cadamarteri got his second of the game. Crewe pulled one back with 15 minutes to go, but we managed to hold on for a much needed win.
We looked to build on this when we travelled to Cheltenham. We lost an early goal to a deflection and never recovered. We lost another before half time. This was another game where we never looked like scoring.
Struggling Chesterfield at home was our next game. This was the classic game of two halves. We played really well in the first half and took a 2-0 lead thanks to Cadamarteri and Echanomi. Chesterfield thought back in the second half and pulled one back immediately. It looked as if we would hold on until Chesterfield equalised in stoppage time.
Next up we travelled to Harrup's Yeovil. This game pretty much summed up our season so far. Both sides had the same number of shots on goal & on target. However we conceded 3 and only managed to score 1, thanks to McKenna. It is looking more and more likely that we are going to be fully involved in the relegation battle.
Bournemouth were next to visit. The first half was fairly even with both sides playing well. Into the second half and we never started. Bournemouth eventually took the lead after 65 minutes. It looke like we would lose another game until Miller equalised with pretty much our only attempt in the second half. This was very much a point stolen.
It was a relegation 6 pointer next when we travelled to Huddersfield. This was another awful performance, during which we never looked like taking anything. The defence once again put up no resistance and allowed Huddersfield to help themseleves to 3 goals. The only bright spot was a Cadamarteri goal, his 4th in 6 games.
This meant we finished the night in 20th place, 1 point above the drop zone, after 24 games.
We started Thursday's session at home to David's Doncaster. A change of system seemed to inspire the players as we out played Rovers from start to finish. A Chambers double put us 2-0 and seemingly on course for a comfortable victory. Rovers did pull one back to make the last few minutes nervous, but we held on for an important and much needed win.
League leaders Millwall was our next destination. We played well in this game matching Millwall for long periods. Unfortunately this was not enough and Millwall scored what turned out to be the winner just after half time. We created chances to equalise but couldn't take them. It was another good performance.
A relegation 6 pointer was next up when Rotherham came calling. We played pretty well again, totally out playing Rotherham. We were just unable to find the goal that would have given us the 3 points. We had another difficult game when we travelled to high flying Scuunthorpe. We were soundly beaten 5-1, although for long periods of the game we held our own.
It was another relegation match when we faced Port Vale at home. There seems to be a bit of a theme developing here. We play pretty well and don't seem to be able to convert the chances. We took the lead in this game with a goal from Craddock on his debut. Then Foxe conceded a penalty on his debut which Vale converted to make it 1-1. This was the end of the scoring although both sides had chances.
It was Toon's Northampton away next. This was a very even game with both sides creating very few chances. It was always likely that a single goal would decide this game and it came in toon's favour early in the first half. We looked to get back to winning ways at home to Blackpool. The less said about this game the better as we were humped 8-0.
Brighton away looked like being another tough game. We took the lead after 13 minutes when Hutchison converted a penalty. Brighton equalised shortly after before Hutchison restored our lead. We couldn't hold onto the lead until half time as Brighton equalised in stoppage time. The second half was fairly even but we couldn't manage to snatch a winner.
The first of 2 consecutive home games saw us play Brentford. Things were going fine until Hutchison was sent off for an elbow. In the end a 0-0 draw was a good result. Carlisle were the next visitors. We finished Thursday's session away to Gillingham. NOt much to say about this game as we were totally out played from start to finish and were soundly beaten 2-0.
This left us in 22nd, 5 points from safety, with 11 games left. On current form we are staring relegation in the face.
If I had one word regarding the last two sessions it would be ‘Injuries’, at one point during the last session we had at least 7 of our top players out due to injuries and not just for a week or so but most out for a couple of months.
Even with the injuries we still managed to stay above mid table in 9th and only 6 points off a playoff place, but I can only dream of what may have been without most of the injuries, but that is football.
Anyway with only a dozen or so games left and relegation out of the question we will do all that we can to finish in the top six.
wasnt able to play every session, but with a 4-1-2-1-2 counter attacking formation, nearly managed to win league 1.
very unlucky not to do do, only losing out on goal different, but gained the promotion spot, and really looking to build something substantial
star player was dean windass who is catching up on age, and i guess it will be tough next season but lets hope my teams does well with a few loan signings
got offered a new contract, was expected to finish 14th, finished 2nd so why not? =d
anyways, really enjoying playing with this first, really top blokes, all of them
