Thursday's session saw us needing to win our last t20 games to have any chance of making the play offs. The first of these games was away to Watford who are top of the league. We were outplayed from start to finish in this game. Watford ran out comfortable 4-1 winners, with Masaryk getting our consolation with a peach of a free kick. The final game of the season was at home to Shrewsbury. As this game was now meaningless I decided to play some of our fringe players. Goals from McGonigle & Jones saw us finish the season with a 2-0 win.
This meant we finished in 12th place. I would have taken this at the start of the season but at the turn of the year it looked like we would challenge for promotion. We will hopefully be able to mount a challenge for promotion in what will hopefully be the last season of our FM 07 game.
We made a several of signings in an attempt to make the squad capable of sustaining a season long title challenge. We started at home to Hull. Porritt gave us the lead on his debut only for Hull to equalise before half time. Pekhart restored our lead with 30 minutes to go. Hull equalised with 10 minutes to go with a controversial goal that should have been ruled out for offside.
It was Sheffield United away next. We were outclassed for most of this game, but a stunning strike from Bamba with 20 minutes left gave us a 1-0 win. We hosted Bradford after that. This was the opposite of the previous game as we dominated this game from start to finish but lost 1-0. We travelled to Wigan next. This was a very even game that was settled 1-0 in Wigan's favour by a shocking mistake by our keeper.
It was League Cup duty next as we travelled to Walsall. We fell behind early on before Jones & Swan, with his forest for the club, turned it round before half time. We controlled the second half and should have won by more than 2-1. Back to the league as we travelled to Stoke. This was another tight game and it looked like it was heading for a 0-0 draw. Then with 5 minutes remaining Humes popped up to give us a 1-0 win.
Our first home game for a few weeks was against Wolves. We produced a stunning first half performance and went in 3-0 up thanks to Swan and a Pekhart double. We cruised through the second half to win 3-0. We finished Monday's session away to Bristol Rovers. This was another tight game that finished level in a 1-1 draw with Swan getting our goal. We have made a solid if unspectacular start to the season.
