Tours are pretty nice. You don't get much money from the home friendlies, but who needs it...?

It's much easier in England and some of the major European counties because of the large amount of TV money and even a small club would have a couple of players they can sell to get more much needed dosh in.
But in my game the Belgian transfer market is a little stagnant with most players getting transferred for trifling amounts of money and, it looks like, no player being sold outside of the country for a decently large amount.
I suspect that most of the other countries will be the same.
I think in this respect FM07 is simulating real life very well.

I think the key then to this challenge as with most small club to big club challenges will be to establish you club in that nations top tier and then and maybe more importantly stabilize and increase your finances when their. The money isn't going to come a bouts easily in some of these smaller nations and I think that if you can increase the reputation of your club to at least be closer to that nations big clubs then and maybe only then the money will flow in. This should be possible to achieve domestically I believe over time (maybe as many as 10 seasons or more) rather than having to wait in hope of achieving a relativity early European finish within the league, although obviously this is an option too.

SI have always said that they've tried not to make anything impossible in the game. So Jimbo even though you may have it a little tougher than most (well alot tougher than most) it could still happen. </BLOCKQUOTE>

Just following on from this...

Here's a topic I posted in the General Questions Forum earlier this month, mainly for research purposes for this challenge (before this challenge was started) for those of you who haven't seen it.

Link.

Kaiserwatman will be pleased to read the comments about the timing of the Irish league structure start in this respect. I'm not giving in though. I might consider a certain amount of holidaying through Cup games, but I am still going to give it a go.
Good read , that was , Yes i was aware of the changes made a couple of season back by the FAI to move the Eircom leagues to run through the summer months, to possibly give irish teamsa slight edge on teams just coming back into preseason for early european games. But then again it has a downside as it clashes with the more popular Gaelic Football and Hurling seasons which mean attendances are down. Yes eircom league sides have got a couple of decent results in recent years but Dublin City have gone bust and Shelbourne have been relegated due to financial problems. I really overachieved last season and The way my season is going i am thinking trying not to be back in the Eircom First Division rather than European Campaigns. I am still and will continue to be a part time club for the forseeable future due to lack of funds. I have still havnt spent a penny on a transfer yet and i am in June 2012

I'll be looking forward to the National job once I have completed the challenge (if they offer it to me that is lol) but like you said it could also take me many seasons too.

With regards to the challenge being near impossible with N.Ireland, I have decided that it is definately NOT impossible.

There is a thread in GQ, (here), where I ask if anyone has ever won a single European game, with a team from N.Ireland without cheating. As yet, It has not received a single response, despite being viewed on 62 occasions. Obviously I am not in a position to keep upping it myself, but I would appreciate it if a couple of you would post at oppertune moments when it drops a long way down the page, just to keep it in view for a while.

The reasons why I think it is possible is because I have absolutely no doubt that I am capable of winning certain first round games against poor opposition. From then on it evens itself out and pre-season fitness will be less of an issue and overall quality will be the underlying factor.

Part of the reason that I have come to this conclusion, is the ease with which I have just signed 5 top U21 stars on free transfers.

I am also buoyed by the announcement of my first affiliation with an English Premiership Club.

To top the whole week off, the board even decided that the club should turn professional. To be honest, I wasn't aware that any of the N.Irish clubs were professional and had assumed that I would be remaining semi-pro.

I'll do the pics for the new players and the Premiership link in a bit, once the N.Irish clubs have been kicked out of Europe. I think you will be amazed by the players. I know I was.

The only problem that I have with this game at the moment is that it has taken over from my Bromley game. I keep trying t save and exit but I keep getting drawn back.
