Skjetten Fotball somewhere in Norway!

Man i love managing in Norway I have just completed my first season in the lowest tier of Norwegian Football. The rules of the competition are that the top team are promoted, nothing unusual there then. We managed a very creditable 3rd place , behind Rosenborg 2 and Molde 2.
Imagine my complete surprise when it is announced that the team promoted were none other than Skjetten Fotball . Irrespective that we finished 15 points behind the runaway leaders neither team are elligible for promotion as they are a second team

So for me and my boys 2008 will be an adventure into the Norwegian First Division. (I'll post screenies of my feat when i return from work tonight!)

As for players, nothing to write home about! My useful striker managed to stay fit for the last 7 games of the season and managed to finish with a tally of 12 goals in 16 games. His name is Grubicic, he's my Captain and although his stats aren't amazing he did pretty well. A jumping stat of 16, heading of 9 and standing at 6ft 2 seemed to help

Jimbo you seem to be doing rather well at the moment
Anthony - your team have scored nine goals and Gaev has scored 7 of them. You'd better pray he doesn't get injured
Gundo - I'll post screenies for proof but you update the table to have me in 2008 in the Norwegian First Division cheers

As the 2009 season comes to a close it's not the Gaelic Football or Hurling team that are making the headlines in County Westmeath but the soccer team Mullingar Town whose brilliant run in the FAI Senior Challenge Cup will see them line up against Saint Patrick's Athletic in the FAI Senior Challenge Cup Final on November 29th.
The Run started against struggling Premier Division Club Finn Harps. Non League clubhttp://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t183/kaiserwatman/2ndrnd.jpg were next, despite wasting about 25 chances a replay was needed before i finally saw them off. The Quarter Final saw Mullingar once again survive the big guns by drawing another non league side T.E.K. Utd With suspensions and injuries piling up i decided to give a few fringe players a run to my cost and a replay was needed. Mistake wasnt made a second time and it was time to wait for the draw for the semi-final.With Shelbourne missing four key players including both their main strikers, Mullingar Town had hope of an upset. Despite been under almost constant pressure,In front of a record crowd at D'Alton Park of 2376 left winger Niall Bonner broke free in the 56th Minute to send over a cross to Dave Carr who slotted home from about eight yards.Nails were chewed as i tweaked the team for the final 34 plus minutes as mullingar clung on until referee Jim O'Neill finally blew his whistle. First Division Side Mullingar Town were going to Tolka Park.
In relation to the league, Mullingar Town have a very slim chance of promotion to Top Flight. Currently sitting in fourth place 4 points behind Waterford United but with a game in hand. 3 games against sides in 5th , 9th and 10th remain before the historic match against Saint Pats
That's a fantastic cup run mate. Theirs nothing quite like a good cup run is there.

Best of luck in the final, I'm sure Mullingar can do it.

Yeah it is petty cool managing in Norway.

I knew that if one of the top flights reserves finished 1st and you where 2nd (or in you your case two reserve teams where 1st & 2nd) you'd go up. Bet you nearly fell off your chair when you where announced as having been promoted heh?

Well done btw. If possible could we have a screenie of Grubicic tonight, cheers.

Lisburn Rangers. N.Ireland 2nd Division 2008.

cookie. Yeah, pretty well if I'm honest, but as usual I have overspent getting players in, and now can;t afford to re-sign the better ones, or sign the younger ones onto full time contracts. We're currently 3rd in the League, (top 2 promoted, no playoffs), but the top 5 teams are seperated by only 3 points with 5 games left. It's going to be close and I'm in a but of an injury crisis at the moment, but I have the added advantage of the best goal diff. Also my goals are being scored accross the team so I shouldn't miss any 1 player too much, (Mullan excepted).

My next game is against Crewe Utd in the 4th Rnd of the Intermediate Cup. Crewe are a non-league club and only have 4 non-grey players so I'm hopeful of progressing, (although I am away).

It's another strange competition. Of the 16 teams left in, 8 are non-league, 2 are Reserve teams of Premiership clubs, 2 are from the 1st Div and 3 others, (like ourself), are from the 2nd Div. If I'm honest I haven't really got my head round the Cup Competitions yet. I never know whether to field a weak team because the Cup itself isn't winnable, or go for it because they're all carp like us .

My centre-half Mullan has scored 18 goals already this season. He's scored 6/8 penalties, 6 at the near post from corners, and the rest are a mix of indirect free-kicks and open play goals when I have reluctantly played him up front, after an in game injury to my target man.

He's the top goal-scorer in the league .

Anto, (my Target Man), only has 10 goals, but also has 10 assists. He's just fractured his ribs and my idiot physio says he might be out for 3 months ffs!

Kaiserwatman. Excellent cup run . If you get a chance will you have a look at the clubs you play against and let me know if any of them are N/Irish rather than Irish. I have a sneakinf suspicion that a lot of these non-league clubs I am looking at are actually league clubs that no longer play in N.Ireland anymore. Must do some research .

cookie. Now if you tell me Gubricic has high determination and aggression attributes I will be impressed.

How you getting on? The strangest thing managing in Norway is when the season starts and finishes. It takes some getting used to the fact that the season finishes in October

I'm not doing too bad if i'm honest, better then I expected having had very little experience of managing abroad previously. I am 3rd in the league and nearly half way. I'll do a half way stage report in the next hour or so.

You think it's strange at the moment mate, then just wait until you get into europe because then the season finishes and you then involved in the Royal League and European competitions while in the closed season! Now that's going to confuse me.

WTF is the Royal League ? I've never heard of it! Well this is an adventure into the realms of the unknown. If by some miracle i manage to reach this League i'll let you know what it's like!

Jimbo it appears the injury curse strikes you again 6 injured and 2 returning from injury to boot. It's a good job you have a huge squad to cater for this eventuality
(Looks and counts 7 fit players, wanders off muttering about ....it's his own fault he should have started managing in Norway )
