I've put my second dafuge's challenge game on hold , I've completed it once and I want to try a new challenge and this one fits the bill.

Meet the new manager of newly promoted to Belgian Third Division B team, R Spa FC.

I chose them as all the other promoted sides have huge stadiums, large playing squads, lots of money in the bank and affiliates.
Spa don't.

I start with a wage budget of £4.49k (current wage £1.66k) and no transfer budget or any staff.

Csepel - Hungarian Div II East

Alright, I managed to get the staff in place, with the job centre throwing up the usual carp. I have, an Ass Man, a physio, a scout and 3 coaches.
The bad news is in Hungary, the transfer window closes on 20th July. My Scout only found 12 players, and I was only able to sign 6 of them. Not even loan signings are able to be made outside the transfer window. So, I have 3 defenders and 3 midfielders. NO KEEPER, and no strikers. I wait in hope that my boy scout finds some unattached players, otherwise the greys will get a good runout as they did in the friendlies.

The good news is that two of the signings made were pretty good for this div.
A former Hungarian international. While all my signings were free, I had to break the bank on the wage budget for him. The rest are being paid 50-95 pounds per week.
A solid looking Slovakian. The only foriegner my scout found. I can only scout Hungary though, he was playing for Nagykanizsa previously.

The Euro watch
Ok, Hungarian teams in Europe.
Debrecen, in the Champions Cup, second qualifying round against Honka of Finland.
Honvéd, drawn to play Skonto of Latvia in the Euro Cup 1st qualifying round.
Győr, up against Birkirkara of Malta in the Euro Cup 1st qualifying round.
MTK, entered the Euro Vase. First round they knocked a team Jimbo is probably familar with, Ballymena Utd, out 3-0 on agg. but lost 3-1 on agg to Serbian team Vozdovac in the second round.

So, I will now keep an eye on the Euro comps, but dont think any Hungarian teams will be involved for very long.

Could I make a request that people head their updates with the name of their team and the league they are in, given that some people are managing in leagues that are unfamilar to many people.

Ok, I had to share this one. Most of the time an Ass Man in any game I have played (there have been a few) has a pretty conservative opinion. Usually saying we will struggle to stay up without strengthening all areas. Of course I usually disagree with them and prove them wrong.
So what should I make of this?
I still dont believe him. I really think I will struggle to stay up this season, and that this is likely to be a one season challenge for me. Unless my two decent players can completely dominate regardless of teammates.

Ok, his report probably confirms he is one of the carpest Assistants I have ever had. For starters, he has stuck a 17yo loanee DC in goal. He is sort of right about depth beyond our first eleven being worryingly thin, but what about depth behind our first six?
He points our Zoltán Virág as a potential star as a defender, but then decides to put him in goal in his recommended lineup.
Alternatively, I might be wrong here and he may actually be a better keeper than the two greys. But still with only two other defenders, I think I would be best to play him there.

I would fire him, but unfortunately there is no better available.

Typical Ass Man again. I do think this is definitely an area that SI need to improve for FM08.

Agreed. Mine stuck strikers on the defence and goalies in midfield..... The Ass man isn't usually the sharpest tool in the box...

Rule 1 concerning Assistant Managers.

Ignore everything they tell you. It's all lies.

Rule 2 concerning Assistant Managers.

If they ever agree with you. Sack them immediately. They are just trying to butter you up so that you beleive them the next time when they are lying.
