Nov. 12th 2008 Luxembourg – Poland (Friendly)
Line-up
The six same players start the match. Jordan has been listed as key player for Luxembourg for a while now. Poland is listed as 1-4 favorites.
Personal prediction: Luxebmourg has been doing very well, but at only half strength, I think Poland may be just a touch too stroung. Narrow loss, I think.
Play-by-play:
11’ – Luxembourg manages to put pressure in the opening minutes, resulting in two decent chances, the second after a nice pass through the center by McLachlan. Both saved, however.
14’ – 1-0! Freeliovic sent clear on the counter, and he tucks it in the far corner. Good start by Luxembourg.
19’ – Freelio from distance, well wide
23’ – Freelio dribbles his defender and goes into the area, but shot saved
24’ – free kick Harper, good save needed
32’ – great short pass Freeliovic, but Feller shoots wide
45’ – free kick Poland, Jordan saves easily
Half time stats
Very fine first half by Luxembourg, unfortunately only rewarded with one goal. Poland looked to be finding their rhythm a bit towards the end of the half, so another good 45 minutes will probably be needed.
75’ – Ruggiero from distance, over. Boring second half so far, but Luxembourg is doing well to prevent Poland from getting into the match.
76’ – corner kick, good header van Nistelrooy, saved well
78’ – free kick Harper, over
82’ – Freeliovic substituted

Another good win for Luxembourg. Again not terribly high quality football, but it was effective. I expected Poland to be a bit stronger, but Luxembourg did well in preventing them from getting any sort of momentum going.
Also worth mentioning: again the Luxembourg manager kept the 4-4-2 formation all the way through, while I certainly expected him to go to his dreadful christmas tree formation, at least at the end. But he must be learning from previous mistakes.
