Oct. 10th 2006 Israel U19 – Luxembourg U19 (Euro U19 Qual)
The game is being played in Luxembourg, but for some reason Israel is listed first.
Not entirely unexpected, the 9 selected Luxembourgians will all start the match. Striker Ryan van der Anders is selected as captain for the group’s very first international match.
Luxembourg plays in a fairly standard looking 4-4-2.
I’m oddly nervous for this match, despite my player not being involved.
Brief play by play:
6’ – van der Anders blasts over
10’ – 0-1! Freeliovic snatches another landmark, scoring the first international goal of the bunch, after being sent clear by a nice long ball from Ruggiero.
14’ – Freeliovic optimistic shot well wide
15’ – 0-2! Freelio’s second of the match, on the rebound after the Israeli goalie stopped a close range shot from Bloodhound.
20’ – Free kick from just outside the area, Harper shoots high and wide.
22’ – And the award for getting the first yellow card in an international match goes to Rafael Van Nistelrooy.

23’ – Israel’s resulting free kick was on target, good save needed by Jordan
24’ – Birdstadt shoots wide from edge of area
25’ – van der Anders hits side netting
26’ – van der Anders long range shot wide
35’ – close range shot van der Anders, keeper saves
35’ – Freeliovic shoots wide
38’ – yellow card Birdstadt
39’ – van der Anders hits side netting again, from close range. Should’ve done better.
45’ – free kick by van der Anders, Israeli goalie managed a brilliant save.
Half time match stats
56’ – Freeliovic weak shot from angle straight to keeper
57’ – Freelio long range shot high and wide
62’ – 0-3! Freeliovic gets the U19 international debut hattrick! Van Nistelrooy sends a long ball upfield from the own half to nobody in particular, but the Israeli goalie unexplicably comes out of his area and completely misses the ball, giving Freelio the easy tap into the open goal.
68’ – 0-4! Van der Anders scores a 25 yard direct free kick.
77’ – Bloodhound substituted

A very convincing performance, playing together for the first time as a team. The score could've been much higher even.
