3/11/2004 UNITED DOMINATE PARIS MANCHESTER UNITED 2 PARIS ST. GERMAIN 0
Manchester United got their Champions League campaign back on track as Paris. St Germain were brushed aside at Old Trafford tonight. Goals from strikers Wayne Rooney and Ruud van Nistelrooy gave Faiz Khan's side the points as they lie second in the group. Khan named an unchanged lineup for the first time in his managerial reign and they were very bright from the first whistle. They put the pressure on the Paris goal fast and furious as an early deflected Rooney was stopped by the outstanding Lionel Letizi. Then the keeper acrobatically tipped over a powerful van Nistelrooy shot and from the resulting corner, stopped Paul Scholes' ball drifting straight in. If Paris could get to halftime with a clean sheet, it would be more difficult for United after the break but United got the lead just before the interval. Mikeal Silvestre got to the byline and pulled the ball back to Ryan Giggs who fizzed a shot through a ruck of players with Rooney the only one reacting to divert the ball past Letizi. The score at the interval read Manchester United 1 Paris St. Germain 0. The second half was more of the same as United went pushing for the cushion goal. van Nistelrooy sent Scholes clear but his shot was blocked by Letizi. Then Silvestre sent Giggs through but the Welshman dragged his effort wide of the post. But Paris had a fantastic chance to put United under real pressure late in the game but Obgeche's cross was narrowly headed over the crossbar by Pauleta. And United made sure of the victory just moments later with a magical goal. A fantastic ball over the top from Giggs sent van Nistelrooy onside and he scored by lifting the ball over the onrushing keeper for an absolutely sensational finish to the match. Well, at the moment the home games are doing the business for United. But Faiz Khan will not be complaining if that is what gets his side through a very tough group.

06/11/2004 ROO AND RUUD TOO HOT FOR SPURS TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR 1 MANCHESTER UNITED 4
Manchester United were absolutely fantastic as they completely destroyed Tottenham at White Hart Lane this afternoon. A brace each from Wayne Rooney and Ruud van Nistelrooy gave Faiz Khan's men their biggest league win of the season so far. Jermain Defoe scored a late penalty consolation for Spurs. United are now upto fifth in the Premiership with a game in hand. Khan put out his first choice eleven in this game and they got off a flying start inside six minutes. Paul Scholes smashed the ball upfield putting van Nistelrooy through and the Dutchman went past one defender and showed great power by smashing the ball home off Paul Robinson. Tottenham twice had the chance to pull the game level through the same player. Kevin Kilbane first headed over from unmarked position and then hit the post from a corner shortly after. And them missed opportunities were to prove very costly for Spurs as United killed the game off before halftime. A long punt upfield by Tim Howard was controlled by van Nistelrooy and he laid on a pass for Rooney and the teenager showed great composure by sidestepping Robinson before slotting in. Then Rooney terrorised Tottenham again as a big Rio Ferdinand headed clearance found its way to Rooney who went on and struck a superb low drive across Robinson and into the far corner. The scoreline at halftime handsomely read Tottenham Hotspur 0 Manchester United 3. The second half was more even than the first half as Spurs looked to put some respectability back into the scoreline. Kilbane forced an excellent save from Howard. Rooney also went through but he took his shot very early and the ball drifted wide. And United rounded off a wonderful away performance with a fourth goal. Scholes drifted another ball into the box and there was van Nistelrooy to head past Robinson and into the back of the net. There was still time for a Spurs consolation nine minutes from time as it would have been hard on them if they didnt have a goal to their name. Ferdinand was penalised for upending Kilbane and Defoe stepped up to power the penalty past Howard. The scoring stopped there as United were sensational this afternoon as they closed the gap on the leaders to six points with a game in hand. Win that game in hand, and Faiz Khan's side could be back in the title race for good.
Tottenham Hotspur : Robinson, Pamarot (Gardner 71), Tarrico, King, Naybet, Davies, Kilbane, Pedro Mendes, Davis (Carrick 62), Kanoute (Defoe 62), Keane
Man Utd : Howard, G Neville, Silvestre, Brown, Ferdinand, Keane, Scholes, Ronaldo, Giggs, Rooney, van Nistelrooy
Goals : Tottenham Hotspur : Defoe (81)
Man Utd : van Nistelrooy (6, 71), Rooney (45, 45)
Referee : Chris Foy
Attendance : 36229
