Default From Zero to Hero. (a short story)

Hello all this is my first story so don't judge me for it's rubbishness

The year was 2026 and it had been a strange time for football. The man who had been crowned the worlds best played 5 times in the last 9 years had still been going strong at 32 when he got a back injury which ruled him out of proffesional football for 10 months. Chilean forward Mariano Gonzalez did not come back from his injury and the face of football was about to change. Shock world cup holders Nigeria's time had come to defend the trophy they took in the U.S.A and France was the venue. In the first game Nigeria were crushed 4-1 by Spain and it looked like it could well be all over before it had begun. In the second game Nigeria were beaten by an injury time winner versus the U.S.A and thast sent them out of the competition. While this was going on all eyes were on Englands group were Mark Detchy had scored two hat-tricks in a row. Englands group had been quite easy and their smooth passage to the second round was expected but Detchy had been a shock call up as he had never receieved a prrevious cap. The Leeds player did not have a great record in Premiership football and at 24 should have filled any potential but i guess 11 goals in 30 games was enough to be selected. In the second round of France '26 one of the favourites in Brazil crashed out to Germany on penalties. suddenly the door was open for England and they strolled past Mexico 2-0 with two more goals from Detchy. Englands quater final was to be against a strong Spain side lead by Amancio Garcia and sure enough the attacking playmaker made it hard for England scoring inside 5 minutes but England fought back with Gaddey scoring on 63 minutes and once again Detchy poopping up to score a goal which took him further ahead in the golden boot race. The semi finals saw England squeak past the hosts 1-0 with Detchy scoring an unprecedented 10th tournament goal. The final was between England and shock finalists South Korea. England went ahead after less than 30 seconds with a Peter Selton goal from 25 yards. Then Detchy stepped in again. The surprise draw of the tournament scored his 11th, 12th and 13th goals of the tournament to give England a reasounding 4-0 win. Detchy had scored 13 times in the tournament and took home any awards there were to take. Just 6 days later Detchy was signed for 80million pounds for Chelsea and in the next four seasons he scored a distinctly average 33 goals in 101 appearances shockingly he was never to play for England again. Soon afterwards he was transferred back to his beloved Leeds were he played out the rest of his bizarre career. But no-one ever forgot his international record. 13 international goals in just 7 international games.
