I?m new in Photoshop and watching right now the lynda.com learning Photoshop CS and i think it's great, but i have a problem, the user interface looks crappy, parts of the splash screen keep showing behind the palette, there's no title bar on the palettes, etc. so if someone knows something about it, please let me know.
Can you post a screen shot of the problem areas which you are having? Also what is the resolution of your monitor.
I'm having difficulty visualizing the issues you are trying to resolve from your description. For example, when you say parts of the splash screen are showing up behind the palette it doesn't make sense to me maybe because I use a Mac. The splash screen is the window which comes up when the application is launching. When Photoshop is launched and active, the palettes have appeared and the splash is gone. [confused]

Yes, a screen shot would be useful!
Welles, I'm a pc user, and I'm as confused as you: the splash screen (the window that reads "photoshop CS" ) disappears after loading.
Also, at lynda.com, quite often, you see a MAC os X computer.
In MAC, the grey background of the interface is not there.
When you have user interface problems, try as well to put the hardware acceleration to zero (in the display settings of windows) to see if your drivers or video card have troubles.

Resetting the preference file might help: Ctrl+Alt+Shift during start.
Do you have problems with other programs that make heavy use of graphics?
Also... having the latest driver doesn't always mean best driver and updating drivers in general can also screw up graphics (conflicts between different driver versions), that's why there are special tools to remove leftovers of previous drivers like DriveCleaner (free):
thanks for the replies, my resolution in 1024 x 768, and i did what you suggested , but nothing change. Here is a screenshot of the problem.
look at the palletes.
