Greenock Morton Appoint McKissock as they aim to put 5 year plan in to place
Greenock Morton have appointed Andrew McKissock as their new manager ahead of the new season. This could make or break McKissocks career as he aims to put a 5 year plan into place for Morton which would ultimately see them competing in the SPL for honours, we got an exclusive interview with him -
Daily Record - This is a big task you are facing up to Andrew, do you feel you can cope?
McKissock - I wouldn't have taken the job if i thought i couldnt cope. I do see this as a big task yes, but it is an acheivable task none the less.
Daily Record - Tell us more about this 5 year plan that you are aiming to follow.
McKissock - Well myself and the chairman have disscussed a plan to get Morton up to where they should be in the SPL. This season it appears that we will have to live on loans mostly and frees as we aim to build for the future and finance for the future.
Year 1 - I believe we must get promoted to the 1st division, failure to do so will set us back majorly.
Year 2 - Idealy we must consolidate our place in the first division anything else is a bonus.
Year 3 - Hopefully we will gain promotion to the SPL by winning the 1st division and that is when we will be able to start spending a bit more on players and stop living off loans.
Year 4 - Is again about consolidation, we must stay in the SPL for the year. If this is acheived hopefully we can start boosting the reputation of Morton.
Year 5 - If everything goes to plan this is the year in which we will go for a top half finish. Again anything else is a bonus.
Morton today won a 3-2 friendly at Montroses Links park. Despite it being a friendly both Andy McLaren (of Morton) and Calum Watson (of Montrose) were injured. It wasn't until the 56th minute when on-loan Scott McLaughlin put Morton ahead with a powerful shot, which was followed by a Chris Templeman header minutes later. 7mins later Montrose were back in it as Stuart Ferguson netted a dubious penalty but only 3 mins later McLaughlin scored again to make it 3-1 game over. Craig Smart netted a late consolation goal in the 90th min.
Young Rangers starlet and Finnish under21 internationalist Jukka Santala has joined Greenock Morton on loan until the end of the season. The 19 year old Fin has been twice capped for the U-21's of Finland.
Greenock Morton snatched a late equaliser as they drew 1-1 with Inverness CT. Playing in front of only 200 people Caley took the lead scoring through Darren Thomson in the 10th minute. Caley had a series of missed chances for the next hour but then let Morton back into it as they changed their whole team Morton made a few attacking changes one being the change of Alan Mahood (MC) for Peter Weatherston (FC) and it was Weatherston himself who snatched the 85th minute equaliser as they battered an inexperienced Caley defence.
Tam Brighton, Steven Hislop and Richie Hart were Morton's latest signings. Brighton had just been released by Rangers and can play upfront or left wing and is a Scottish U-21 internationalist. Hislop and Hart were signed for a combined fee of 14k both are attacking players and were transfer listed.
Kilmarnock were the latest SPL team to have a crack at Morton at Cappielow after Inverness failed to win there previously. Morton were dubilant after 13 mins as Steven Hislop scored on his debut to put the home side ahead. However it was a lead which did not last as Killie levelled through Gary Wales and only 7 mins later Killie took the lead as Kris Boyd made it 2-1 and it stayed that way for the rest of the match. Youngster Graeme Holmes was signed the day previously and he made an exciting start playing good passes and had a shot crack the crossbar. The same goes for Richie Hart and Tam Brighton who both threatend the Killie goal on numerous occations.
Morton have added 3 more players to their squad, two on frees. Paul McHahle former Rangers youngster has been signed from cowdenbeath for 6k, the centeral midfielder has been in good form for cowdenbeath prompting a bid from Morton. Andy Dick another former Ger has been snapped up on a free as has Graeme Holmes. Manager McKissock has told the Daily Record that he intends on signing a left and right winger and hopefully 1 defender and 1 striker.
New boss Andrew McKissock got of to a great start to his competitive managerial career as his side beat Montrose 4-2 at links park in round 1 of the challenge cup. Morton went ahead through Richie Hart in the 4th minute in what was the 1st of many chances for just one of the debutants. Montrose levelled through Craig Smart on 10mins with a low curling shot and Montrose took the lead as Martin Wood scored a close range header. Hart scored again as he danced through the defence and slotted under the keeper, and the 1st half hat-trick was complete as he scored a header from a Paul Walker corner. Jim Butter dazzled the fans with magnificant saves for the whole of the 2nd half but Montrose failed to make use of their chances as Butter foiled Hart, Hislop and Templeman on numerous ocations but he was finally beaten by second half sub Andy McLaren to seal the match in the 90th min.
