The Window Opens...

Greenock Mortons spending looks set to continue, rumours are that Morton are looking at youngster Billy Jones at Crewe Alexandra, Naldo of RS Futebol, Barry Callaghan of Dundee United, Darryl Duffy of Hull City and Kenwyne Jones of Southampton, obviously all of these deals are not going to go ahead but there is a certainty that at least 3 will, also on the Loan front Paul Lawson will extend his stay for another 12months from Celtic.

Morton Thrash Rovers to go one point behind leaders

Morton thrashed Raith at home 5-1 today at a packed cappielow. They went ahead through Richie Hart's close ranged tap in but were pegged back by a Gavin Skelton goal. Chris Templeman was red carded for not keeping his mouth shut which angered the manager but he made a perfect sub which payed off imediately, Bob Davidson was thrown on in place of Jukka Santala and they went to a back 3 with Brian McLean replacing Sam Tillen. This worked wonders, 3 mins after coming on in the 67th min, Bob Davidson ran on to a punt by keeper Coyle to stab home and give Morton the lead. Steven Hislop then got into gear and scored a hat-trick in 10mins to seal the game, a left footed drive from 20 yards, a near post header and a scrappy tap in.

Duffy confident of Parkhead win

Morton new boy Darryl Duffy appears to be ina very confident mood ahead of Mortons 3rd round Scottish cup tie with the Glasgow Giants Celtic. When asked if he thought his new team had any hope he said, " Yes we have a great chance, a year ago we beat Celtic in the League Cup so why we can't do it when we are stronger? I feel that aslong as we frustrate Celtic and they dont play their strongest side we have a great chance of pulling off a win"

Morton savage foolish Celtic

Morton again pulled off a shock against one of Scotlands big two, against Celtic for the second time in two seasons. Celtic lined up with 3 accross the back 4 in the midfield and 2 up top with 1 between the midfield and attack. the 4 midfielders averaged at an age of only 19 with debuts handed to Dunphay, Millar, Quinn and Bjarnnson. Up front was Craig Beattie and another debutant McGlinchey and the 3 at the back consisted of Mo Camara, Steven McManus and Stan Varga, the selection was later labeled a "huge mistake" by Gordon Strachan who appears to have again failed to learn about the underdogs teaching Celtic a hard lesson. Morton combated this perfectly with 4 at the back 1 defensive midfielder 4 midfielders and 1 striker. Billy Jones was the defensive midfielder who nulified the attacking midfielder Quinn of Celtic's threat through out the 90mins. Steven Hislop combined superbly with right winger Andy McLaren to open the scoring on 37mins with a neat one-two and a cool finish into the bottom corner. For the second goal Hislop, who has been the subject of a bid from Leeds and Lazio, through balled for Andy McLaren to make it 2-0 returning the favour. At this point Celtic were worried and through on 3 big players, John Hartson for McGlinchey, Zurawski for Quinn and Thompson for Wallace. Thompson lasted 10mins before scything down Morton new boy Darryl Duffy as he went through on goal - a straight red card and from the resulting free kick McLaren netted the 3rd and killer goal a wonderful free-kick. McKissock later criticised Strachan for his line up and went on to say that he should consider his position not only as manager of Celtic but as a manager in football if he cant show respect to lower teams.

Celtic 0-3 Morton - Celtic Park Att - 40713

Goals - Hislop, McLaren(2)
Injuries -
Red Cards - Thompson - Celtic

Hislop ends speculation

Steven Hislop has put to rest any speculation that he is about to leave Morton by signing a 5 year deal at the club. The deal is rumoured to have a release clause but it is at an extortionate fee to attempt to ward off any bidding teams, Lazio, Leeds and Birmingham were rumoured to be looking at him but none of them made concrete offers and McKissock was desperate to keep Hislop.

Morton romp to win against rivals

Morton decimated Airdrie at home 4-0 with outstanding performances from Naldo and from Richie Hart. Both dominated their areas of the pitch and both scored. Darryl Duffy scored 1st after 30mins a neat shot tucked in past Lee Robinson. 2nd place Morton were ironicly hoping that St Mirren would take points from Ross County to put Morton top but it wasnt to be. The second was scored by Hart with a determined run and a delicate chip over Robinson. Steven Hislop scored the third and Naldo scored on his debut making it 4-0. Manager Andrew McKissock was delighted to sign Naldo as he felt he wouldnt have the funds, but the 1m sale of Templeman to Livingston funded the move and Morton got their man.

Morton 4-0 Airdrie Utd - Cappielow Att - 5799

Goals - Duffy, Hart, Hislop, Naldo

Morton hold on against late wave to win

Morton held on against St Johnstone to get 3 very good points. Morton went 1 up through Duffys through run and cooly slotted shot into the net. Morton were pegged back by a Peter MacDonald strike from 30 yards, a screamer which Coyle had no chance with but it was Duffy again with his 4th for Morton in as many starts who sealed the game 13mins from time. Morton survived a late surge from St Johnstone who were camped on the Morton penalty area but couldnt get in.

St Johnstone 1-2 Morton - McDairmid Park Att - 4725
