April 25th, 2004 Pressley Sees Red But Celts Keep On Winning Celtic central defender Steven Pressley was sent off with 10 minutes remaining in their match at Livingston yesterday but by that time the visitors were already two goals to the good thanks to Kenny Miller and Mark Kerr and had no difficulty in keeping Livvy at bay to claim yet another three points. Celtic are now an extraordinary 30 points clear of Rangers in second place and are certainly headed for a record-breaking season.

May 2nd, 2004 Kerr Hat Trick Sinks Rangers
A superb hat trick from Celtic midfielder Mark Kerr was the high point in Celtic’s 4-0 win in the final Old Firm match of the season. The 22-year-old has been in outstanding form this season and is a key component in Celtic’s success. Rangers looked dispirited as they took the field at Parkhead and rarely put together any football of quality to trouble the Celtic rearguard. Stephen Pearson was the home team’s other scorer, converting a penalty in the second half after Stephen Hughes had brought down Gary McCutcheon in the area. A 2-1 win for Dundee United over Motherwell sees Steve McMahon’s team close to within two points of Rangers in the chase for second place.

May 9th, 2004 Hartson Brings Celtic Run To An End Celtic’s 28-game winning streak came to an end at Fir Park yesterday as Motherwell won 2-1 with former Celtic player John Hartson scoring the winning goal. The home side surprised the visitors when they took the lead after quarter of an hour. Celtic responded vigorously and put the Motherwell defence under sustained pressure, striking the woodwork twice but failing to make a breakthrough. Kiegan Parker found the equaliser after the restart but on the hour mark Hartson scored what proved to be the winning goal. Celtic continued to press but Myles Hogarth was in outstanding form in the Motherwell goal and pulled off save after save to keep his team in front.

May 16th, 2004 Records Tumble As Celtic Win Again Celtic brought their league season to an end with a 2-0 win over Dundee United at Celtic Park with early goals from Gary Teale and Gary McCutcheon. Tick Jones’s team lost only three league games this season and achieved a total of 99 points, an SPL record. McCutcheon has averaged a goal a game in his 48 appearances with the Cup Final still to come.

May 30th, 2004 Celtic Do The Treble
A dramatic 2-1 victory in the Scottish Cup Final over Dundee United allowed Celtic to complete the final leg of their domestic treble. Gary Teale got Celtic off to a dream start with a goal after just 4 minutes. Celtic enjoyed most of the possession but found United keeper Alan Combe in excellent form as they tried to build on their lead. Half time came and went with no further scoring and as the clock ticked down it looked like a single goal would be enough. But with 7 minutes remaining substitute David Dunn scored a stunning equaliser to give United hope of taking the game into extra time. However it was not to be as Teale scored his second of the afternoon three minutes later to take the trophy to Celtic Park.

June 6th, 2004 Season Review
Welcome to our annual roundup of the season just completed in Scotland and around Europe. In Scotland, Celtic demonstrated in spectacular style that Scottish playing talent is alive and well by winning the domestic treble. They won the SPL by a record points margin, just failing to break the 100-point barrier. Their European campaign was less successful and having reached the UEFA Cup Semi Finals last season they were disappointed to finish bottom of their Champions League qualifying group. Their manager Tick Jones was voted Manager of the Year and their players almost completed a clean sweep of the player’s awards.
The final leagues tables for all four divisions are shown below.

June 29th, 2004 Hutch Calls It A Day Don Hutchison has announced his decision to hang up his boots with immediate effect. The 33-year-old was signed by Celtic 3 seasons ago from West Ham and although he never established his place in the first team he made 47 appearances scoring 14 goals. He gained 19 caps for Scotland and since starting his playing career at Hartlepool he made 349 senior appearances and scored 60 goals during his career. This follows the recent decision of 36-year-old John Collins to retire from the playing side although he will remain at Celtic on the coaching staff.
