OK, this has been a familiar question on these forums for quite a while now.
But I, and a lot of people I think, would like an answer, or if that's not possible, theories about why it is so hard for a great team to beat poor teams on FM08.
I'm just wondering why this is happening so if anyone from SI or people with CONSTRUCTVE comments to make would like to hazard a guess please do.
To help draw my conclusions, I am going to start a game with Manchester United, and see what happens.
When I first played I had that problem but the more I thought about my tactics and tried to make the relative adjustments the less it has happened.
I suppose it happens in real life. Look at Scotland v France. Twice
I know I can see your point mate I'm not saying it can't happen in real life, just that in FM it seems to happen a hell of a lot.
The thing is, I'm not a very good FM player, and in theory, not being very good I shouldn't be able to beat the good teams. The only teams I should be winning against are the poorer ones.
I'll let you know how I do with Utd. I'll try to play attacking football and see how it goes. In theory, according to these boards I should create a lot of chances and not score very many goals in most matches.
Well think about how your team should play. Yes you can attack a lot but ultimately you need to have good chances or you just won't score. I use the example of Scotland-France as both games Scotland took a bit of a pumping but ultimately France couldn't score. When that happens a "little" team has a chance. Celtic-Man U in the CL last season. Nakamura free kick. It happens plenty of times just we only see the results that matter to us. And I Scottish by the way so its two examples that stick in my mind the most
I think with the last two games they were quite a bit easier. My tactics consisted purely of having a tall striker and a fast striker. In this new game its so apparent that I need more than just that. I need players to control the game. I need patient build up. I need players who can find space. Since I started thinking of this have managed to get results against smaller teams that previously I found difficulty with.
As you can see, numbers of shots seem ok, there were a couple of one-on-ones missed, but I think these are mostly coming from defenders pressuring the attackers at the time of the shots.
You can play against inferior team all the time, dominate the game till the last min. Somehow their GK will be on a man of the match kind of form and save every single one of your shots.
Right when u think this match is heading for a draw the AI pops up and scored with the only real chance they had, and your defenders didnt even tried to do much about it.
So, at home to Sunderland, which should (in theory) be a relatively easy game for Man Utd.
Ended up 3-0 to United with 2 for Tevez and one for Rooney. A few fairly easy chances were missed but it is hard to know which were down to poor finishing and which were down to good goalkeeping.
Could people post links to the pkm file as well as the picture if possible when showing stuff like this? Aside from being of potential help to the dev team its also interesting for other people to watch these matches for themselves - and can only promote better understanding of the engine!

Why is it so hard to beat inferior teams? Post #10
