Closing down, forward runs, creative freedom & Defensive line
1. Closing Down:
* Oke. Im confused... Do I set up my defenders to close down or NOT?
Pro's: Defenders run towards the attackers/offensive midfielders
Con's: Defenders open up space behind em when running to midfielders and strikers just stroll down the center towards my lonely goalie.
2. Forward runs:
* Again... a little confused. Yes or No? and Why?
Pro's: Players use space to run to help out attack
Con's: Sometimes they keep running... best example are fullbacks. They are sometimes more upfront then my wingers. Farrows or not. Weird. How to make sure they only run a little?
3. Defensive line:
* Most confusing thing ever.
Pro's: Fast defenders ... good stuff less space for opponent and flowing attacks.
Con's: Long balls right over their heads and if not fast defenders... byebye...
4. Creative freedom:
* Oke... sounds simple... yet... not really.
Pro's: Nice playmaker stuff running all over the MC and AMC place to make space and nice passes.
Con's: Literelly run all over pitch and get dragged out of position and let the DMC and MC's of the opponent join their attack.
So as you hear, I need a lot of help to ever get this game a little under control (Allthough I won the Champions League with FM2007 with Ajax)

What you described above is freerole no creative freedom.

1) I would not recommend high closing down for CB's, just doesnt make sense to me. They are your last line of defence so should probably be holding back. Full backs however could have more closing down as you dont want wingers just running past them and getting a free cross in.
2) If you want your fullbacks to be very attacking then fwrd runs often, if defensive ten rarely, if a mix the mixed. Their mentaliy shouldnt be too high either as if they have a normal/high mentality and often forward runs they might aswell be wingers.
3) Defensive line is a grey area for me too so i just play between 8 and 12 depending on whether im attacking or defending.
4) Aye, you have these two mixed up mate. But for free role, i dont usually employ it unless in an aml i want cutting in etc.
Thats all imo ofc and not concrete

Well in FM i dont think you should have your centre backs closing down more then own area. Not all things that make sense in real football work in FM tbh. You really have to build a tactic on what you see looking at the match and stats. Then again I always use a DM so have him holding firm in front of the defenders so it makes more sense for me to have my defenders just sit back until absolutely needed. In fact my centre backs get very few tackles in per game. Its my DM and fullbacks who close down higher who make most of the tackles.

Don't mean to me. It's just annoying me, that's all.
Time was the tactics set up meant you could see a problem and rectify it using the sliders/options. Now that doesn't seem to work.
The tactics I use, and the basic premises it follows should really be working - but time and time again the same things happen, and no manner of tweaking (whether logically, or randomly) seem to be working.
