Nottingham Forest's B team
After last season losing out in the play-offs to a average run of the mill pub team A.F.C Telford, I know the shame of it.
we knew we didn't want to face another play-off lottery against the like of other pub teams like Barrow, Harrogate and Gainsboro.
So we knew a good start was most important if we wanted to win it out right.
Of course with the club being strapped for cash, we turned to Uncle Glenn Hoodle and his merry man of Nottingham Forest and pleaded with them to join us in our cause.
well like the men in tights they flocked down the road to Hinckley, We started in fine form going to 29th of November before losing our 1st league game, but by this point we had build up a cushion that would see us safe to the final day(well kinda safe)

SEASON 08/09

Finished the season as BSS no. 1!
Most wins, most goals for, biggest g.d., most points...
The board is happy, supporters are happy and I'm happy! BRING ON BSP! It will be tough and some new faces are bound to come in.

Here is roundup of my BEST ELEVEN from past season.

SEASON 08/09
BEST XI
ON THE FIELD
NAME P. PLAYED APPS GLS RAT
Aleksander Amarasingham GK 47 - 7.30
The youngster was signed for free season 07/08 (hes norwegian btw), 1st choice GK. Has showed some good improvement, expect a lot from him in the future. As a backup have singed a young slovak (or was is slovenian, can't remember exactly).

Barry Fuller DR45 - 7.22
Was signed 07/08 with intention to play as MC but with his ability to play also as DR, became 1st choice DR someway middle of season 08/09. Theres no real backup for him so will look for backup/replacement during 09/10 preseason (probably replacement). His future role in the team is unknown. He is the Vice Captain of the squad though.... So some intense thinking on his role will be required.

Simon Spender DL 30 1 7.07
Good fullback, who is actually a natural DR, but with some training has become competent DL. Was rotating between DL and DR, together with Fuller and Tanner. Some clubs are after him but currently have no intention of letting him go.

Karl Yelland DC 31 -7.23
Excellent loan signing from... can't remember, but was the best defender of the whole team (until the loaning of good West Ham youngster Tomkins in Febuary/March 2009... was not selected in the XI as he had too few games)

Adam Dugdale DC 25 - 6.96
Signed with high hopes, that he will improve and become a first team defender but that is not the case (yet). He was used as a rotation DC. But the fact, that he is chosen into the XI, shows how bad DC situation the Beavers have.

Maor Bozaglo MC (AMC)44 36 7.84
Well... at the end of the season I had mixed emotions because of him and his performance. Yes, he is a real world beater and every opposing teams (in BSN at least) biggest nightmare (how does he even bother playing in a league where he just runs though the opposition defenses like hot knife though butter) and I'm happy he was ready to come to us on season long loan from WH. He did what was expected from him and more. But as the season draw to an end and mr. Hot-Knife left the squad, I started to feel strange. Wait a minute... is he coming back next season? Of course he will! Or will he... at that point I started to panic. What date is it? June already?! Whens the start of the season... in 2 months time?! If he will not come on loan next season, I better start looking for a backup... Anyway, if looking at the squad, there are some youngsters, who could step up at some point as a replacement for Bozaglo, but not next season, so will be out on the market for good buys/loans to fill these big boots.

Matty Crowell MC (DMC)31 6 7.39
Matty was signed as a partner to Bozaglo and backup for Fuller on the midfield and was really good at it both with attack and defense. He was the teams pen taker and was also good at it. But because of my brief craziness, where I was thinking out loud, who should be the next captain and then gave the captains pen to Matty, just to take it away the next second, he got really unhappy with me. As a professional player he was still giving his all on the field, but you could see that he really took the captain incident hard, which I can understand, so he asked for a transfer and I accepted it. But I was not ready to let him go cheap, so managed to sell him to Eastleigh for 100K! Don't ask me where they got the money for that.. I do not know and I do not care!

Shaun Whalley MR (AMR)43 7 7.47
Whalley is a player, who can play on both sides of the field with same good results. After selling Owain Warlow in the first part of the season (for 100K!), got more responsibility and eventually, because of his good performances on the field, became the main right winger. His performances have also made some clubs interested in him. But not planning to sell...

Kaarel Kaskpeit ML (AML) 31 11 7.55
This young 18yo countryman of mine (estonian) was found by my busy scouts so it was very nice surprise when preseason of 08/09 Kaskpeit was ready to come to trials with the Beavers. And he came out to be a good player. Fast, technical, mentally quite mature... so there was no question, I signed him right away. And he did not let me down!

Hogan Ephraim ST 45 39 7.71
Long story short. Came in for season long loan, same as mr. Bogzalo, except I should have strikers, who can replace him (not to the same extent, of course). Big thank you to him and hopefully also joins us mighty Beavers next season also. But if not, good luck!

Ian Hodges ST 37 13 7.11
Captain of the squad. Have been here from the beginning of my reign as a manager. Had a good season.

ON THE BENCH
NAME P. PLAYED APPS GLS RAT
Pavel Roos MC 2 -6.00
Youngster with a prospect to become something in the future. Surprised to see him in the Season XI. That shows the limited depth of my midfield.

Craig Tanner DL 27 -7.07
Good rotation player, mainly playing as DL but have used also as DR several time. Hope to see some improvement from him to challenge Spender for first team place next season.

Marcus Kelly ML/R (AML/R) 27 8 7.41
Good player, able to play both sides of the field. Fighting mainly with Whalley for first team place and had several good spells during the season. Used also for backup for Kaskpeit on the left side of the field.

Josh Wright MC 12 - 7.42
Brought in to give some depth to the midfield after Crowell was sold. Did a excellent start to his Hampton career and I hope it continues.

Scott McGrory ST 12 9 7.92
Was signed after my scout found him in Febuary 2009. The scottish lad was given his fair amount of games after he joined and he showed what a good player he is and can be. Scored 9 goals in his 12 outings and had the best game/goal rate of all the contracted Hampton players. Keep up the good work!

Hot like a Furness!

Steve Gold´s first full season in charge of Barrow the board are over the moon with his management so far as all goals they have set have been easily met! Although predicted a measily mid table finish by the media, Gold has gone onto doing the unpredictable to delight every Barrow fan.

Although never really competing to take the top spot in the league, Barrow where always up there for the vast amount of the season and showing some fantastic football for the fans which helped them gain the runners up spot in the Bluesquare North but also a valuable play off spot, which was easily achieved.

Play Offs

In the BSN Play offs we would face Burscough, a team that we have enjoyed victory against but have also endured defeat, so this was going to be a battle either way and a game which, if we would win, would certainly put myself as a favourite towards winning the final against either Leigh or Worksop.

The first leg would be played in Burscough, the advantage coming that we would play the 2nd leg at home where we have been very strong this season. I was hoping we would go away from the game at Burscough without defeat, having lost to them previously in Burscough during the normal season I wasnt 100% filled with confience, especially our last 8 games or so since Marshall got injured have been a bit up and down.

Well things didnt start off well as Burscough took the lead early on but we never gave up and by the time the full time whistle came, we had managed to equalise through on loan striker Dexter Ravenhill who has stepped well into the boots off Marshall.

The other game between Leigh and Worksop ended also 1-1 so it was all to play for between all four teams in the 2nd leg of the Play Offs.

It was time for us to put Burscough in their place in the 2nd leg of the Play Off and take ourself to the final, we once again went down one nil early on despite having started far more brightly than we did at Burscough. But then the lads turned it around and it started to become the Ravenhill show! The on loan striker put Burscough in their place bagging a fantastic hattrick in a 4-1 win over Burscough and sending us through to the final! We would meet Leigh there as they won via an own goal from Worksop!

Play Off Final

Barrow take on Leigh and the game was mainly one way traffic, Barrow heading to the BSP! Although we suffered the ability of not being able to score, which has happened a lot since Marshall got injured, we finally got a penalty in added time of the first half! Carrington stepped up to make it......and he and the rest of the squad have not scored a penalty all season.....GOAL! Carrington must love the big stage as he smashes it in the back of the net. In the second half things continued like the first, we just couldnt score for toffee but once more PENALTY! Unbelievable, two pens in one game, Carrington stepped up again and GOAL! Two goals from two pens, I thought xmas had come early! We then added a third to make sure Leigh had to chance of coming back and to celebrate victory and promotion.

The full time whistle was blown and delight as Leigh never looked in with a shout and we would finally move up into the BSP! Something all Barrow fans never thought would be possible so quickly under new management!

Summary

A fantastic first full season in charge and from the end of last season there were so many positives taken on and built on for this one, we managed to loan a lot of great players from Crewe which massively helped us with our quest at getting where we got to at the end of the season, we also enjoyed some good cup runs in which we achieved better results than our board has hoped for.

Delighted at reaching the FA Cup 1st round despite going out, the financial reward was massive for the club. In the Sentanta Shield and FA Trophy we also made good strides by making the 5th round and 3rd respectively.

What really pleased me and was very chuffed with is that it was a team effort, every player in the team scored goals, if it was from set pieces or penaties or even open play, they got the goals, even our goal keeper almost scored one!

The Players

Name Position Apps Gls Rat fon Williams GK 58 - 7.09 - Came in on a free and played every game this season, top class.Danville D R 52 2 7.27 - Bags of pace and showed it, even chipped in with a couple!Blackwood WB/AM L 34 1 7.03 - Covered the left sided brilliantly if at left back or left midfield.Swailes D C 48 4 7.17 - His experience showed and even knocked in some great goals.Carrington M RC 53 10 7.34 - Superb! Commanded the midfield brilliantly.Marshall ST 33 27 7.73 - What can I say, he came in on loan from Crewe and we missed him big time once he got injured on the tail end of the seasonMurphy M RC 46 9 7.02 - Bags of pace on the lad and scored some great goalsBarrau AM L 36 3 7.64 - Came in to cover for Rhodes and replaced him wellWebb ST 57 39 7.44 - Wonderkid! I was unsure to begin with but once he got his first goal he couldnt stop scoring!Wright AM R 51 9 7.53 - Fans love him, helped setup lots of goals this seasonBrown D C 51 5 7.16 - Another fan favourite, the Captain of the squad and scored 5!Ravenhill ST 37 22 7.11 - Got quite a few games in the end, mainly always as sub but replaced Marshall due to injury and bagged a few hattricksWaterhouse D/AM L 34 2 6.94 - Big things promised and he always showed a good display.Salmon DM 36 6 6.81 - Rejected Telford and showed he can strutt the stuff!Rhodes AMLC,FC 21 4 7.43 - Some great performances from the left winger which ended up with offers coming in, he got unhappy so he went to Stafford for 30k.

So some great displays from our squad and all round effort, we look forward for what the summer brings and the new season in the BSP!

We're Going Down!

Well in a season which had promised so much we find ourselves back in the BSS after some woeful play in the BSP.

Manager Simon Lynn signed 100s of players with his extended wage budget, only to find that about 98% of players signed would be lucky to manage to make it to the post office to collect thier pension. Twas not good and the expierience gave way to better players and Newport suffered as a result of this.

This season we will work on building a team capable of putting up a fight in the BSP as the last squad was not, we will move on and hopefully upward.

With a slightly younger squad this season and a few older big names we should establish ourselves well in the league and can look to building on that for next season. Also we are looking into the possiblity of a new parent club to add to the strengh that Bristol Rovers give us as we make full use of the parent/feeder agreement.

To the BSP and beyond!!
