Tony Hall is infamous around these parts
Default RTG (Road to Glory) Clan FM08 Thread

Greetings and Welcome to Road to Glory's FM08 Clan Thread. Reports of our evenings will be posted in this thread. The clan is now under new management with Rob Nordon standing down and the new owner Tony Hall has officially taken over. Road to Glory is an official Sports Interactive Affliate and we strive to bring in fresh ideas and one fresh idea that Tony Hall has brought in and will start when the FM08 season starts is the new two tier league system to Road to Glory.

Road to Glory currently has 20 members which means we have enough players to form two leagues. The league system is quite simple, bottem 3 Clan Members of League 1 get relegated to League 2 and the Top 3 Clan Members of League 2 get promoted to League 1.

Anyway if you would like to join please visit www.roadtoglory.co.uk and create yourself an account on our forums and post a introduction to your self on our UEFA Pro-licence Applications thread. You'll most likely be placed in a waiting list until a place comes available.

Now the League and Team Draw has taken place and here are the results of the draw.

Well with a few hours to go until the first FM2008 Session I thought i'd post a comment about my Wigan side.

When I found out I have been drawn with Wigan at first I was dissapointed, I immediatly opened up a new single player game to see what I had to deal with. To be honest I was surprised, a health transfer budget and a team with a good attacking presence. A strong midfield unit with the likes of Micael Brown and Jason Koumas in the middle, joined by a few other players. The immediate weaknesses were up front and mainly left back. I have around 13.5 million pounds in which i hope to largen by selling some of my lesser players.

As we all know Wigan doesn't normally fill their stadium so I am going to rely on either the chairman or self made profit by selling players. SO i'm going to completely revamp my side to ensure my side can achieve a good mid table position.

For myself I am looking at a mid table position by the end of the season, I see wigan as a team full of individuals and i hope to bring them togethor to create a good unit. To stay up in my opinion we have tro win the majority of our home games and learn how to defend a 1-0 win. As soon as I enter the game i will look at securing a good training regime to help get the best out of the lads.

I truley can't wait to get started as hopefully I can take Wigan to bigger and better places.

Jack Phillips - Wigan Athletic Manager

First league night went well, Updates are to be posted on Thursdays lads

Nice Pre-season, loads of transfers...I brought in quite a few of my own lol

after watching my Blackburn team have a go at Man Utd, and making sure Man Utd couldnt do anything, I am actually overjoyed that I drew BRFC, because I think a title challenge would be realistic in 2-3 years!!!

Stephen Livingston's Middlesbrough played their pre-season friendlies under the guidance of the assistant manager while Stephen set about sorting his squad and back room team. Middlesbrough played out two score draws 1-1, 3-3 followed by three victories culminating in a 3-0 win over their reserves. Molina (goalie) and Prso (striker) were added to the squad and the back room team was augmented by the signing of two new scouts and a fitness coach. Middlesbrough are almost ready for the start of the new season where a home game against newly crowned Community Shield Champions Chelsea will see Stephen take charge of his first competitive match.

Manager Comments
Great week for me, had a great start by winning the community shield 3-2 against Man Utd giving me a first taste of silverware for a long while. Then the premiership season started off well and the Chelsea side look to be stamping their authority judging by the two 4-0 thrashings I’ve handed out to Blackburn and Tottenham. Managed to bring in some quality signings who are settling in fine.

The Wage Budget and Transfer Budet is just what the board expect you to do, but you can get more obviously!!!

The Most Valuble Player isnt the one who is worth the most, it is who I think is the player the club needs to keep the most...

I have my relegation Candidates, and I have my reasons...Wigan, this is because they have a weak strike force and weak defence, so it will be all down to the midfield to save Wigan unless some decent signings are brought in. Sunderland, Well apart from having no money at all, they have also got the worst team in the league, Adam will need to use his wits and use some fantastic tactical play to keep Sunderland up, he will need to use the msot of his resources. Derby, all the odds are against Derby, and Peter has to beat the odds with a very weak team, only a little bit of money, Peter needs to use the money carefully and bring in the correct players!

The top spot will be fought out by Chelsea and Liverpool, in server 2. Both Keiran and Shane have great teams, but Chelsea may have the upperhand because they have so much money but it will be very close, I am sure Tony has other opinions... haha

Well there it is a small analysis on all the teams and manager on Server 2...Enjoy lol

Taking a look at my fixture list, I am actually scared...Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal...all in the first 4 games, which is gunna be Mission Impossible but Blackburn will give it its all!!

(H) Man Utd 0-1
Scorers: (MU) Fletcher
MOM: Friedel
I couldnt believe this Blackburn team, Man Utd didn't deserve the points for this, we were all over them a fantastic game, it was just Van der Saar was too good.
Rating: 3.8/5

(H) Brann 4-0
Scorers: (BR) Piatti Stancu Santa Cruz Klaebu(o.g)
MOM: Piatti
Pure Class, or Brann were really poor, but we absoluty murdered them, they couldn't do anything
Rating: 4.8/5

(H) Liverpool 2-2
Scorers: (BR) McCarthy Piatti (LV) Torres 2
MOM:
Well unfortunatly we didnt derserve this draw, we were 2-0 at half time a few quick changes and we came out a different team and managed to get 2 goals back and ending safely
Rating: 4.2/5

(A) Arsenal 0-3
Scorers: (AR) Adebayor 3
MOM: Adebayor
Mission Impossible, we had no chance, they ran us all over the park, not suprised really, because its Arsenal!
Rating: 2.1/5

(A) Brann 2-0
Scorers: (BR) Derbyshire Kewell
MOM: Kewell
Easy, I set out a weaker team because we have a 4-0 lead on them, into the new round of the EURO Cup
Rating: 3.9/5

End of Week Review
Well I am glad that we are doing well in the EURO Cup, but the league form has to pick up after we have played the big 4, I would like a top 6 finish with Blackburn, now I know how strong the team is. ALOT of signings hopefully most of them are for the future, and should improve within time, Cant wait for Breno to join because we can start using him as soon as possible. I am not too bothered that I am in the Relegation because I know that I wont be there at the end of the season, its just the fixture list I have drawn its bound to put me in the relegation, but I am happy with the point we have got out of the big 4.

Clan Session Report 13th/15th November 2007.

-Players In-

Thiago Motta (Laon)
Fran Marida (Loan)

-Players Out-

None

Ok as you can tell i wasnt to clued on my transfers but i was not planning to be. Bolton's financial status is not very strong and i felt my best options were to hand onto what i have and reinforce my Defensive midfield with T.Motta who is a fairly solid player to have especially at Bolton.

If needs be i will spend my 2.6mill but i am saving for a few special players that will allow me to play my attacking formation i want to use

-Freindly Summary-

To start things off i arranged 3 extra friendlys 2 with my reserves and one with the u18s. Things got off to a good start with a 6-1 thumping of the Reserves. Next i had a few away friendlys. (excuse me but i dont have the names and actual scores to hand so may be inacurate) Now i know we won our first game and the second was close finishing a 3-2 loss. Not 100% sure on the 3rd result. Will update in my next report with actuate fixtures and results.

-The Seasons Start-

With a horrific first set of fixtures there were 2 games i could hope to get points from.

>0-1 WestHam (h)

Realy frustrating, we played well all game had some very good chances but on the 93rd min West Ham won a corner and rose to the challenge to put it into the corner of the net i was gutted as we realy should of won the game.

>1-0 Man Utd (a)

The first of the big 4. I lined up fairly attacking for this match wanted to see how we could fair against a strong side. And i was plesantly suprised. We actualy dominated short spells of possession but so did Utd and with our pathetic finishing every chance we got was wasted, notably a second half play between Stelios and Anelka. It was a beautiful 1-2 wich left Stelios cear in the box with just Van der Sa to beat from about 8yards but he smashed it about 6yard wide i was absolutly livid.

As you can imagine we were punished for wasting chances, after a disollowed goal it erged the Utd on to pressure us until finaly a great chip ball to Tevez left him in space for him to slide it into the bottem corner on the 72nd min.

we held strong for the remainder of the game and i even went 4-2-4 for the last few minutes which almost payed off with us having 3good chances 2saved and 1 off the post.

> 1-2 Aston Villa (h)

Another disapointing loss, we had some very early chances on goal before Villa broke through on 8mins with an early goal. 2mins later Kevin Nolan eaqualised for us and i felt we would go onto dominate. We were excellent up until half time but O'leary definatly done somthing and the Villa were possesed in the second half having a good 60% possession and getting there second goal. Very disapointing as we had now lost 3 in a row and 2 i felt i wanted at least 4points from.

5-1 Liverpool (a)

What can i say the first half was a disaster, Torres and Vander Vaart tore me to bits. VDV playmaking terrorised my back 4 and Torres was a monster. leaving us 4-0 down at Half Time.

In The second half i made some big changes, swaping my formation and bringing on 3players. We managed to have a very respectable second half only conceding 1 and i actualy felt we dominated alot of play in the final 40mins. we managed to pull 1 back and probably should of got a few more but again wastefull finishing cost us our pride in salvaging a high scoring game.

-Over View-

Frustrated and disapointed. Im very anoyyed at picking up no points at home when i feal we deserved at least 1 win from the 2. And what can i say about away days, i was so proud at Utd fealing we could of got the draw but it wasnt to be, and then the embaresment at Anfield i dont want to get into again and leave it behind us.
Hopefully it will wake my team up and i am going to take a very hard line with them from now on.

My Key players have been nothing short of Poor, Anelka still has no goals to his name, Diouf is making bugger all effort and the likes of Whilemson have been ineffective.

The best 2 players would probably be Kevin Nolan and Vaz te as they our the only goal scorers so far.

I just want to get a few cup games under our belt and maybe have a good Uefa Cup run.

-Plans-

Stop conceding and to get an attack that allows Anelka and Diouf to be at full potential.
