End Of Year Summary
To start off my stint at barrow, I decided to give the existing squad a transfer free run through the friendly period, to see who I needed to replace, and who I could deem as priceless. After 3 draws and 2 losses, my conclusion was that I needed to replace someone. So I got myself scouring the transfer market for quality.
Throughout the season I made the following two loans, and six free transfers:
Mark Carrington - M RC (Loan from Crewe)
Probably the best deal I managed to pick up over the season, especially seeing as he turned down better loan offers from various league two sides. He set my early league form alight with his high standard, yet disaster struck about 10 matches into his loan... he severely damaged his hip, requiring me to terminate the loan so he could go see a specialist back at Crewe.
Avr. Rating: 7.09 Alex Lord - D R (Free)
Not a remarkable signing, but he gave my squad a whole heap of depth, and I was also not too fond of the current right back. He did score a remarkable 40 yard goal on his debut, which I wasn't expecting, and the opposition keeper wasn't either.
Avr Rating: 6.58 Mark Crossley - GK (Free)
Originally meant to replace the current goalkeeper at Barrow, he eventually became benched for the majority of the season due to a few horrid performances.
Avr Rating: 6.36 Amjad Iqbal - AM C (Free)
Possibly my best signing. Due to the fact that no-one in the Barrow squad had the ability to take a corner, I searched high and low for a dead ball artist to fulfill my need. With a rating of 12 for corners, and quite good outfield stats for a midfielder, he was the man for the job. He picked up the odd goal, assist and MoM award. Only downside was the odd red card.
Avr Rating: 7 Phillip Green - AM LC (free)
As of now, his stats are nothing to boast about, but being 19 I couldn't help but sign him for his quality (well, for the standard of Barrow) and his potential to be something special. He turned out to be a regular at Barrow, being quite often described as the Man to Watch.
Avr Rating - 6.67 Jack Baker - GK (Loan from Crewe)
Due to a run of horrid performances by Crossley, I turned to Crewe for a replacement. Young Jack Baker did well for me, but wasn't anything special. Although, he does have potential to get somewhere.
Avr Rating - 6.22 Adam Dugdale - D C (free)
Adam turned out to be a quality signing for me, playing every match since I acquired him a few weeks into the season. He hardly put a foot wrong, and managed to get the odd assist too with long balls.
Avr Rating - 6.81 Nathan Jarman ST (free)
After Chris Thompson got badly injured with a torn calf muscle, I scouted about for a suitable replacement, and after noticing the dismal talent of all other club strikers, I signed Jarman. He turned out to be quite similar to Thompson, so it wasn't a bad signing at all. I also notice that he seems to be quite popular with all of you as well.
Avr Rating - 6.83
I managed to bail out of all of the cups before the end of the demo in an unspectacular fashion. Generally holding out until the end, only to be hit by a late winner in injury time. Starting of f the
FA Cup in the 2nd qualifying round, I was drawn against Merthyr Tydfil. I held out to a one all draw in the away fixture, leading to a home replay of the fixture. Bailing out in the final few minutes, Barrow lost 1-0, losing out to a non-league club.
I had a bit more luck with the
Setanta Sheild, getting my strongest win of the season in the 1st round against Alfreton, with a 4-1 thrashing. Drawn for the 2nd round against Kettering, I was optimistic, but continuing with the story of my season, I crashed out with a 1-0 loss.
Flipping the tables slightly, I managed a 1-0 win against non-league club Cinderford in the 3rd Qualifying Round of the
FA Trophy, but in the 1st Round, I managed to duck out once again 1-0 against Blue Square Premier team Stafford.
My progress in the
Blue Square North was a similar story, with a final position of 17th, only 3 points clear of Redditch who are sitting on the tip of the relegation iceberg. Quite a far cry of the Title chasing form I promised the board at the start of the season.

Now for Super Kyle. He turned out to be my top goalscorer, although that isn't the most remarkable feat at Barrow, with the 2nd highest goalscorer being Amjad Iqbal with three. Some of his goals were quite well timed though, mostly in the last 10 minutes of the match to give me a late winner, or to save a game for a draw. Although, I can't say he was remarkable for me, but he got about half of my goals, so he wasn't horrible either.

It was an enjoyable challenge, regardless of my poor form, but it has really made me look forward to the full game.
