Shetland Islands vs Brechin Scottish League Cup 1st Round - 8th August 2006
Shetland finished off the victors of a superb 7 goal thriller.
Shetland boss Ally MacDonald made may changes for the cup game, with
McChunder, O'Kelly and Bamble replacing
Majidinho, Drewe and Maradona.
On 6 minutes,
Maradonareplaced the injured
Bamble, and a short while later proved he was the worthy sub, on 23 mins he got a goal, heading in
O'Dahl's perfectly timed cross.
Against the run of play though, Brechin pulled level.
Pethybridge was adjudged to have fouled the Brechin striker Hampshire in the area, and Russell fired in the resulting penalty on 29 mins.
Shetland's regained their lead on the half hour thanks to a massive **** up from the Brechin keeper. Nelson failed to clear the ball properly with
Maradona baring down, and the ball fell to
O'Dahl, who attempted to header it in from 20 yards, but as the ball tricked to the line
Maradona ran in to poach the goal and make it 2-1.

Shetlands got an immediate impact after the break on 48 mins,
de Shetlandinho robbing the Brechin defender of the ball just outside the box, and sending through
O'Dahl to slot home low past the keeper.
On 76 mins, Shetlands got their fourth, when
O'Kelly's long cross from the right was flicked on by
Maradona, and
McSocraincha was on hand at the back post to fire in from a tight angle.
Brechin didn't give up though, and on 80 mins, Russell made a great solo run on a counter to slot in to make it 4-2.
The scoring wasn't finished yet, and
Maradona went on to score a move that he started on 88 mins,
O'Dahl eventually slotting past the defender for
Maradona to squeeze it past the keeper from 3 yards, and also to complete his first competitive hat-trick and the first out of Shetland and Orkney.

A brilliant result against a team top of the league above us, Maradona can really finish and he is forming a great partnership with O'Dahl. But we've definately improved from when we wasted chances in pre-season, as you can see from the match stats.
My MoM is easily Francesco Maradona, he scores for fun and he knows how to do it well. A great hat-trick, even though he had cheek to steal his 2nd from Sean O'Dahl.
