Shetland Islands vs Orkney Islands Pre-Season Friendly - 7.7.2006
Poor finishing and poor defending summed up a terrible day for Shetlands.
Shetlands started as the brighter side, with
McLeod forcing an early save from Kemp.
Maradona and
O'Dahl both had chances too, but put them over.
Orkney got their first attack of the game, which led to
Collinsmaking a good clearance at the back post. McKauf then missed a chance for the visitor and then hit a post.
Orkney took the lead on 22 mins, with Jon-McTyler heading in a corner, after no-one from the Shetland team seemed to go for the ball. Poor defending put us down after such a strong start.
Orkney got a lucky lucky second on 36 minutes, McKauf again running through the centre, only for his tame shot to somehow be missed by keeper
Crouch, who was immediately subbed off by his manager.
Our poor defending of corners was again taken advantage of by Orkney, and Jon-McTyler headed in another corner, beating
Collins to the ball. 3-0 down, and this showed why we need to take our chances.
We again started to show some of the good chances we had at the start of the first half, with
Pethybridge's shot from 10 yards somehow deflected off the line by a combination of Orkney keepers and defenders.
HT Score: Shetland Islands 0-3 Orkney Islands
We improved after the break, but poor ball control led to Jon-McTyler almost getting in for a chance.
Howells was sent through on an easy one-on-one, but somehow managed to put it wide. A few minutes later, he set up
Bamble, but his shot was just saved again.
McJames then missed a sitter of an open goal for Orkney.
FT Score: Shetland Islands 0-3 Orkney Islands
Complete embarassment, if only we had taken our chances we could have won this game. The match stats show how poor our finishing was. Our defending was equally poor, we just seem to do nothing for corners, which led to 2 of their goals, without that, we could have seen a better result. But fair play to Orkney, they took their chances and didn't waste them like we did. Our major problem is keepers.
Imo none of them are good enough atm tbh. Strikers is the same, but one game on has a good game, the next they play rubbish. A few players really need to improve if we want to beat Orkney in the next game. It didn't help either that Orkney had more fitness than us as we had played Rangers just two days ago.
No-one deserved MoM
imo, they were all poor. Once we improve we can beat Orkney, we're not ready for the season yet.
