Shetland Islands vs Rangers Pre-Season Friendly - 4.7.2006
Shetland faced a big challenge today as they faced SPL side and parent club Rangers.
Rangers got off to a better start, having a chance after just 16 seconds, but on 7 minutes, the deadlock was broken when Papac's free-kick found the top left corner.
Shetlands drew level on 9 minutes in spectacular style.
McChunder's 45 yard free-kick not only evaded the head of the incoming
O'Dahl in the box, but also the keeper as it went in. A bizzare goal, but it made te score 1-1.
Rangers regained th lead on 20 mins, Buffel turning well to slot past
Thomson to make it 2-1.
Shetlands got another equaliser on 22 mins, this time
McSocraincha's corner was met by the head of
O'Dahl at the near post, to bring the score back to 2-2.
Despite
Thomson making a good save from his namesake on the Rangers team, the rebound fell straight to Sionko, who made it 3-2 on 27 mins.
Rangers increased their lead on 37 mins,
McChunder missed the header in the box and Sionko was ready behind him to score.
Rangers made it 5-2 5 minutes till half time, Buffel's ball somehow got round the back 4, and Sionko completed his hat-trick.
HT Score: Shetland Islands 2 - 5 Rangers
After the break, Rangers troubled
Thomson early on but it was an easy save in the end. Rangers were looking threatening up the wing, but
Maradona got free from
Al-Dahash's pass and his shot was pushed away at the near post by McGregor.
Shetlands continued to pressure the visitors, with
Pethybridge,
de Shetlandinho and
O'Kelly narrowly firing over.
FT Score: Shetland Islands 2-5 Rangers
Probably a fair result in the end, but their finishing was the difference, if we had converted some of the chances in the second half (Maradona and Pethybridge could have done better), it could have been a closer result.
My MoM is Sean O'Dahl, I'll never know if he knowingly left McChunder's free-kick that went in, but passed the ball around well and had a chance to score and took it.
