Soccer officials today were surprised when their proposed transformation of the Italian soccer leagues was accepted. The Italian football federation's radical proposal was accepted after weeks of discussion among all clubs across the country.
Under the proposal, a complete overhaul of the top four divisions of the Italian pyramid are in order. New teams will be chosen from among the lower divisions to stock Serie A, Serie B, Serie C1 and C2.
The new clubs will be chosen by the football federation in the coming days.
This is the start of a holiday game, with the idea "stolen" from Walcott's Wonderkids, with a few changes of my own. I've swapped all the teams in Serie A, Serie B, Serie C1 A & B, and Serie C2 A, B, & C. To choose the replacement teams, in the editor I loaded up all the clubs from Italy with a reputation higher than 50, and just went in the order they were listed. So basically, all of the clubs from Serie B and below are 500 reputation clubs.
Clubs in Europe
First season teams chosen for European competition.
Champions League: Nuova Verolese, Acilia, Corsico, Milan(holders)
UEFA Cup: AM Goricizza, Atletico Calcio, Quinto
Inter-Toto Cup: Petacciato
Serie D watch
Some of the "former" big teams in Serie D for the first season...
Fiorentina, Torino, Parma, Catania, Lecce
Things not done
Not sure if all of this is even possible, some of the things that aren't changed...
- Milan is still in the Champions League, as holders.
- Super Coppa in season 1 is still between Inter and Roma.
- no changes made to Coppa Italia.
So yeah, there it is. I'll have updates throughout the years. Loaded only all leagues from Italy with huge database. Also will follow the coefficients in Italy, and how the national team is affected.
The 07-08 season is in the books in the "new" Italy. Your Serie A champions are Petacciato. They finished tied on points with Quinto, but had beat Quinto in both of they games they played in the season.
Petacciato, Quinto, Villese and Gavorrano qualified for the Champions League. Sarone and Montenero head to the UEFA Cup, while Calangianus will play in the Inter-Toto.
Relegated from Serie A are Paolana, Porfido Albiano and Sporting Casella.
Arenzano took the Serie B title, and will be joined in Serie A next season with Akragas and Pomigliano.
Milan took their holders spot in the Champions League all the way to the final before losing to Manchester United. Not surprisingly, the other Italian teams in European competition struggled, with none making it past the round they were entered in.
The only competition that had the big name teams and players in it was the Coppa Italia. Holders Roma looked for the repeat, but were beaten by Juventus in the final.
Italy had no trouble qualifying for Euro 2008. But, as the season went on, more and more players were brought in from outside Italy. The Euro 2008 squad contains 12 players playing their club football outside Italy.
- Petacciato were the busiest team in the transfer market, signing an astounding 208 players during the season. Nuova Verolese, who finished 10th in Serie A, also went triple digits, with 139 players brought in.
- hirings and firings among coaches are always popular in Italy, no different now. Last place Sporting Casella had three different managers. Porfido Albiano are already on their fifth.
- leading league goal scorer in Serie A was Liberian Kevin Koffi, who played with Quinto. He had 22 goals, one more than Michele Cossato of Gavorrano.
- there was very little separation between teams at the top of the league tables. Top two Serie A teams were tied on points, with the third place club only three points back. Arenzano won Serie B by seven points, but the second and third placed teams were tied on points. Other than Serie C2/C, which Succivo won by ten points, the other league winners won by two or three points.

WTF! </BLOCKQUOTE>
Haha, exactly what I was thinking when I read it. They must have replaced their team every month of the season. That or they decided to sign on 170 youth players to flesh out their club...
I think they see there team isnt good enough for serie A but there reputation is too low to get any good players so instead they just sign a lot of players.
Arenzano are the new champions of Serie A, beating out last year's winners Petacciato by only 2 points. Atletico Calcio, Sarone and Manzanese drop down to Serie B.
Leading scorers in the league were Arturo Lupoli, playing with Quinto and Umberto Improta, of Corsica, each with 19 goals. Lupoli is co-owned by Fiorentina.
Serie B
Rovereto ran away with the Serie B title, losing only 1 match all season, finishing with 113 points. Ronchi and Arzanese will also make the jump to Serie A next season.
Lower Divisions
Not surprisingly, Parma, Spezia, Fiorentina, Catania and Lecce will all be making the jump from C2 to C1 for next season. Fiorentina, lead by Adrian Mutu, lost only one game all season. Parma and Catania also got through their C2 campains with only one loss.
Coppa Italia
Although they missed out on their second straight scudetto, Petacciato did pick up some hardware with a 1-0 over Pomigliano in the final of the Coppa Italia. Petacciato also won the season kick off SuperCoppa, defeating Juventus 2-1.
In other cups, to go along with their promotion, Fiorentina grabbed the Coppa Italia Serie C and the C2 Super Cup titles.
European Competition
Italian teams continued to struggle. In the Champions League, Gavorrano and Villese were both eliminated in the 3rd qualifying round. In the group stage, Quinto and Petacciato finished bottom of their respective groups, with Quinto lucky enough to win a 3rd place tie break to advance to the UEFA Cup.
In the UEFA Cup, Calangianus were unable to get through the 2nd qualifying round. In the first round, Montenero, Gavorrano and Sarone were all eliminated. Juventus, in through their Coppa Italia win from the year before made it to the quarter-finals. Quinto were eliminated in the first knockout round, where they entered the competition.
National Team
The Azzurri are first in their World Cup qualifying group, as more and more players from outside of Italy make up the squad. Their last squad had 14 players from outside the country. No players from the "new" teams have cracked the Italy squad yet.
Nation coefficient on July 1, 2009 - 50.365. Down 16 points from two years ago, with one less Champions League spot.
Torino the next former Serie A team who will join the league set up, making the jump the C2A. Through promotion, Fiorentina, Parma and Spezia all got placed in C1A, so it should make for an interesting promotion battle.
