Pre-season 2009/10 update
A
fair amount of activity either way saw us strengthening the team considerably with players with first division experience. a loophole in the 'only one player under 21 allowed on loan' rule meant that I managed to keep three of my four Celtic loanees. Only Mike McGlinchley has returned to our parent club.
In his place arrived Craig Connell. Not a starter, but he bolsters a midfield which, according to my assistant, is my weakest area.
The [url=http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c315/abigail84/squad09.png]squad looks fairly good, although the reserves only contains third choice keeper James Baird. After finishing last with only one win last season, I've withdrawn from the reserves league. So the lack of reserves isn't too important. the squad should have enough depth to survive.
The friendly results were mixed. Only one victory out of five. A 3-0 victory away to Brora Rangers kicked off pre-season very well. But a 5-0 reverse against our parent club Celtic didn't impress. If that was bad, the 3-0 reverse to our feeder club Cumbernauld United was even worse. A 0-0 draw with St. Johnstone followed by a 2-0 defeat to Aberdeen made it just 3 goals in 5 games, and they all came in the first match.
Despite that, my first match in the Irn-Bru first division ended with a 1-1 draw away to Dundee. Credible indeed.
And finally, I know that
technically James McCarthy is Irish, but he was born in Bellshill and has Scottish as his second nationality, so he should still count!
