Default AI Experiment - Birth of a New Nation

AI Experiment - Birth of a New Nation

In brief, this is an AI Experiment to see what happens when a completely new and different nation is entered into the database with better teams and a higher league standard than its European co-efficiencies and reputation in the world suggests.

What have I done?

I have edited the FM database to replace a nation with a new one. The country I have removed is Northern Ireland and there is now a new nation in existence in the game called Ellisia.

As a bit of background, the nation of Ellisia lies to the west of France, north of the Iberian Peninsula and to the southwest of the United Kingdom of Great Britain. Ellisia has a population of 34,540,265 on a land mass 121,456 square miles in size.

Ellisia as a nation speaks English with small pockets of French and Spanish speakers. It is counted as part of the UK & Ireland region in the game, and is an EEC member state in a similar mould to Switzerland and Norway. The nation has a booming economy having freed itself from dictatorship.

The capital of Ellisia is Port Nelson with a population of around 4 million; the second largest city is Nodnol with a population of around 2.8 million.

The other important cities are listed below by population size:

1,000,000 to 2,500,000 – Adelphia, Bozarburg
500,000 to 1,000,000 – Malastaire, Shangrila
250,000 to 500,000 – Faradafry, Grimme, Midchestnut
100,000 to 250,000 – Lantisia, Newtonia, San Angel, Stravchine, Whitefield.

These cities have all been entered into the game with the above populations and varying levels of attraction, as well as vastly different weather.

The national team move around stadiums in the country without a permanent home, though they play major matches at Trafalgar Park in Port Nelson, the home stadium of the Port Nelson Admirals.

28 new clubs have been created in the country with various establishment dates. There are 16 teams in the Ellisian First Division (EFD) and 12 teams in the Ellisian Second Division (ESD). The 16 teams in the EFD have reputations between 3750 and 4750. There youth academies and training facilities are between 8 and 15 out of 20. Their finances are all pretty good.

Each team in the First Division has between five to eight created players of various skills, with no more than two created players in each team with a potential ability level of -9 or -10. Players available on a free transfer with some degree of skill in the database (Alessandro Pistone, Fabian Barthez, Martin Djetou, Savo Milosevic etc) have been randomly assigned to clubs in the Ellisian First Division.

Each team has a stadium of their own which varies in size from team to team. They’re potential fan bases are a lot bigger than their current stadiums. This is all listed in far greater detail below.

In addition to the above, each club has been given a major European club to be its parent team, these will all be listed below in greater detail as to who the parent clubs of each First Division team are.

The league standard of Northern Ireland has been changed to 12, the same as Austria.

The first division’s reputation has likewise been raised to 12, the reputation of the two major cup competitions has been set at 10. The reputation of the second division has been set at 8.

What I have not changed:

- The reputation of the nation from Northern Ireland’s reputation
- The co-efficients of the clubs
- The European co-efficients of the nation (how many clubs qualify for the Champions League, UEFA Cup, EURO Vase)
- The skills of any other players except the created ones
- None of the Chairmen are set as sugar daddies and none of the clubs are PLC’s.

The League and Cup Structure

The First Division consists of 16 teams, they play each other twice in a season to give a total of 30 games a season. At the moment, the top team receives a First Qualifying Round birth in the Champions League, the second placed team enters the UEFA Cup and the third placed team the Inter-Toto Cup. The bottom team is automatically relegated to the Second Division, the team finished second from bottom faces the team finished second overall in the Second Division in a play-off to decide which team plays in the First Division.

The 16 First Division teams compete in a cup competition I have christened the Isoeph Cup. The 16 teams are split into four groups of four teams and each team plays the others twice home and away, these group games are played at the beginning of the season, before the league season starts. The teams also compete in the nationwide Emperors Cup which features every club in the land pretty much, similar if you like, to the FA Cup in England.

The Second Division is a league of twelve teams, the top team is promoted to the First Division, and the second placed team goes into the play-off mentioned above and the bottom two are automatically relegated. They play each other only twice a season for a 22 game schedule. They also compete in the Dr Pepper League Cup which contains the 12 teams from the Third Division as well. The 24 teams are split into four groups of six teams and play each other only once in the group stage, which takes place before the start of the league season. The top two from each group advance to the quarterfinals where it becomes a knockout competition.

Purpose of the experiment

- To see if the teams, with reputations of between Championship and League One level are able to progress and get success in European competitions
- To see the effects of great managers, ambitious Chairmen, and unambitious Chairman have on the clubs
- To find out how influential training and youth facilities are
- To find out how key stadium and fanbase size is for the long-term health and success of a club
- To see if the First Division and its clubs can gain more places and higher seedings in the European Club Competitions and take Ellisia (N. Ireland) up to a co-efficient that is similar to Austria and other comparable sized nations/league standards.
- To see if the higher reputation clubs and league standard would see greater success for the Ellisia National Team’s performances in international qualifying groups and tournaments.
- To examine what quality of players would be willing to move to Ellisian teams to play their football.
- To see if any the population size of cities has any effect on players produced or fan bases.
- To see if the new nation, with cities with big populations and big stadiums, higher reputations and a higher league standard can host a major international tournament in the distant future.

The Clubs

For the purposes of this experiment and to decide who enters the European Competitions the top three last year were as follows:

1. Lantisia
2. Stracvhine Balanvinski
3. Argyres Myrmidons

Now to move on, in detail, to the clubs that make up the Ellisian First Division.

Argyres Myrmidons

Value: £12m
Stadium Name: Herodotus Stadium
Stadium Capacity: 26,400
City: Adelphia
Prediction: 4th
Training: Good
Youth: Good
Parent Club: Real Madrid

Argyres, think of them as Grecian supermen, they try to play attacking, attractive football with the flair of the Brazilians but the efficiency of the Greeks at Euro 2004. Adelphia has weather similar to Athens, they're kits are blue and white, the national colours of Greece.

Bozarburg

Value: £6.75m (Debt £6.5m)
Stadium Name: Red Lion Park
Stadium Capacity: 36,000
Prediction: 10th
Training: Average
Youth: Good
Parent Club: Roma

I guess Bozarburg are like Arsenal, the old Arsenal, playing in red kits and a more boring type of defensive football. Bozarburg are similar to the German national team in their style of play and the city's weather is like the south of Germany. Bozarburg are a feeder club of Roma.

Diamond Heights

Value: £6.5m
Stadium Name: The Quarry
Stadium Capacity: 27,750
Prediction: 16th
Training: Average
Youth: Average
Parent Club: Valencia

Diamond Heights play in an all white home kit with red trim, and a red and white checkerboard away kit. The weather is like Cyprus, very hot for most of year. They were promoted as champions from the Second Division last season. The true underdogs of the First Division.

Faradafry

Value: £3.5m
Stadium Name: Calamint Road
Stadium Capacity: 19,000
Prediction: 13th
Training: Good
Youth: Average
Parent Club: Benfica

Faradafry City are a determined and professional outfit that play in black and white stripes at home and steel blue away. Faradafry are a feeder club of Portuguese giants, Benfica and are the main club in the city of Faradafry, the other club being Spark Rovers.

FC Jasque

Value: £9.25m (Debt £22.5m)
Stadium Name: Bastiat Crescent
Stadium Capacity: 26,894
Prediction: 6th
Training: Good
Youth: Good
Parent Club: Olympique Lyonnais

FC Jasque are the ‘other’ major club in the city of Nodnol, like Everton is in Liverpool. They play in black and yellow diagonally halved home kits, green away kits, and a white and blue third kit. They were founded in 1946 and are one of teams with the most Gallic flair about them, having been founded by French immigrants after the second world war.

Grimme Athletic

Value: £5.75m (Debt £3.5m)
Stadium Name: Wein Park
Stadium Capacity: 22,320
Prediction: 14th
Training: Average
Youth: Average
Parent Club: FC Bayern Munich

Grimme Athletic are the biggest team in the city of Grimme, just above Grimme City. They were founded, as the city was by German immigrants after the First World War and have maintained links with Germany ever since (with the exception of the Second World War). Their home kit is red and white stripes, their away kit is white with red trim, and their third kit is blue.

Lantisia City

Value: £7.75m
Stadium Name: Witterbach Stadium
Stadium Capacity: 32,500
Prediction: 2nd
Training: Good
Youth: Good
Parent Club: Sporting Lisbon

Lantisia are the current EFD Champions and will be competing in the Champions League, entering at the first qualifying round stage. Their link with Sporting Lisbon and the city’s links with Portugal has seen the club adopt a green and white striped home kit, the away kit stems from a shortage of kits in their history when the owner went out and purchased FC Barcelona kits in bulk to be their away kit and the colours have stayed ever since. Their third kit is orange and black hoops.

Newtonia

Value: £3.2m
Stadium Name: Isaac Street
Stadium Capacity: 18,000
Prediction: 12th
Training: Avg
Youth: Avg
Parent Club: AC Milan

The club’s link with AC Milan has seen Newtonia adopt red and black striped home kits. Their away kit is black and yellow stripes and their third kit is blue with white sides. A determined outfit they play in a fairly small stadium but are the only professional team from the town of Newtonia. The influence of Isaac Newton in the town and the club is profound as since the town was named after him, he has been the adopted symbol of the town ever since.

Nodnol City

Value: £9.5m
Stadium Name: The Temple
Stadium Capacity: 30450
Prediction: 7th
Training: Avg
Youth: Good
Parent Club: Chelsea

They play at the Temple, so called due to its ancient history as the sight of a historic and significant temple that was burnt down in the medieval period and never rebuilt. The club were strongly associated with the royal family on its founding in 1910 and adopted the royal family’s colours of purple and white. Their home kit is all purple, their away white with purple trim. Their third kit is dark and light blue hoops. Their star player is the free transfer signing of Fabien Barthez.

Port Nelson Admirals FC

Value: £111m
Stadium Name: Trafalgar Park
Stadium Capacity: 85,000
Prediction: 1st
Training: Avg
Youth: Excellent + YA
Parent Club: Inter Milan

The Port Nelson Admirals are the biggest team in the land. Valued at over £100 million due to their 85,000 capacity stadium Trafalgar Park, they’e the biggest club in the country and have a long association with the navy, like the city itself. They play in a dark blue home strip and a red and white quartered away kit. Their free agent signing of the experienced Stefan Klos is expected to help them compete in the EFD.

San Angel Club Eagles

Value: £6m (Debt £3.5m)
Stadium Name: Estadio Azteca
Stadium Capacity: 19,110
Prediction: 11th
Training: Adequate
Youth: Adequate
Parent Club: Barcelona

The San Angel Club Eagles are the only team from the city of San Angel which has strong links with Spain and Mexico. These links have been solidified with the recent pairing up with world famous FC Barcelona. They have recently completed the signing of experienced Brazilian defender, Roque Junior.

Shasarazade FC

Value: £3.2m
Stadium Name: Shangrila Gardens
Stadium Capacity: 39,500
Prediction: 9th
Training: Avg
Youth: Avg
Parent Club: FC Porto

The Slicing Hammers, as they are known, are one of the most attacking teams in Ellisian football. They adopt a no-holds barred philosophy of scoring more goals than the opposition at all costs which often leaves them in trouble, it remains to be seen if they change their tactic. They play in a dark blue with light blue trim home kit, and a reversed colour away kit, with a green third kit. Their major free agent signing has been Flavio Conceicao.

Stravchine Balanvinski

Value: £13.5m
Stadium Name: Varburn Stadium
Stadium Capacity: 57,545
Prediction: 3rd
Training: Good
Youth: Good
Parent Club: Sevilla

The team with the strongest links to eastern Europe play in a blue and white striped home kit and a white away kit. Their third strip is red and gold halves. They are a dominant physical side who will be competing in the EURO Cup this season. Their star signing has been Igor Biscan, the Croatian international.

United Commonwealth Club

Value: £6.75m
Stadium Name: Steward's Centre
Stadium Capacity: 24,000
Prediction: 5th
Training: Good
Youth: Good
Parent Club: Juventus

Unlike the other Malastaire club, United Commonwealth Club have links with Britain, not France, and are also one of the more Ellisian styled teams. They play in black home kits with flashes of silver, and silver away kits with flashes of black. Their third kit is blue with sleeves of gold. They are a strong outfit and one with the potential to be successful in the long term.

Wegason Dragons

Value: £19.25m (Debt £8.5m)
Stadium Name: The Octagon
Stadium Capacity: 40,000
Prediction: 15th
Training: Avg
Youth: Avg
Parent Club: Manchester United

The smaller team in Port Nelson, the Wegason Dragons symbolise the national emblem of Ellisia, the Dragon, and are named after an area of Port Nelson known as Wegason. They play in a gold home kit with red sleeves, and a red away kit with gold sides. Their third choice kit is royal blue. The play at the Octagon, a stadium known as such due to its irregular eight sided shape. Their star signing has been Alessandro Pistone.

Whitefield United

Value: £3.9m (Debt £8.5m)
Stadium Name: Pennyroyal Crescent
Stadium Capacity: 21,500
Prediction: 8th
Training: Avg
Youth: Avg
Parent Club: Arsenal

Associated with Arsenal Football Club, Whitefield are a quintessentially Ellisian team playing in simple kits. White at home, a dark blue away kit, and a third choice red strip. They play a functional 4-4-2 and their main aim is to establish themselves as a permanent fixture in the top division.

My Predictions

1. The Ellisian First Division will obtain more places in European club competitions.
2. The Ellisian First Division Champions will have an automatic entry into the group stages of the Champions League by 2020.
3. Two clubs from the First Division will be able to enter the Champions League (at any stage) by 2012
4. An Ellisian First Division club to progress to the group stage of the Champions League within 5 seasons.
5. An Ellisian First Division club to progress to knockout round of Champions League within 10 seasons.
6. Three Ellisian clubs to be in the top 20 richest/most valuable clubs in the world by 2015
7. The Ellisian national team to qualify for an international tournament by 2014.
8. The Ellisian national team will be in the top 50 national teams by 2010 and the top 20 national teams by 2015.

Finally...

What do you predict will happen?

Which team, excluding the 2006/07 season, will have been the most successful ten seasons in this experiment?

Who will triumph in the first season?

Will the potential star players in each team move on to bigger clubs abroad?

Will the stars stay within the First Division as they're in the top competition in their country?

Which team would you support out of the 16 clubs?

How key will the parent club links be?

Can an Ellisian team win one of a European competition?

Any other thoughts?

It took absolute hours of editing. Btw, this is using the beta patch, as my database is currently not working with the new patch, luckily I started a game and saved it before I applied the patch. I have not yet run the first season.
