Season 2007/2008 Transfer Market
Not much activity in June as the teams only had a few days to get deals done but Argyres signed a promising young centre half from Derby County for £1.1 million, Miles Addison becoming the record Ellisian signing on the last day of the month, beating the £825k that FC Jasque paid for David Bell from Luton.
£10 million was spent in July by Ellisian clubs, Lantisia, the reigning champions, spent £6m of that on six players, the biggest two signings being Chris Hogg and Lewis Stevenson from Hibernian at £1.9m and £1.3m respectively. There was only really one major signing in August, that being Mark little from Wolves to FC Jasque for £1.8m. European Competitions
In the First Qualifying Round of the Champions League Lantisia faced Olimpi Rustavi of Georgia, defeating them 5-1 on aggregate including a 4-1 thumping at Witterbach stadium. In the second qualifying round, they drew Levski Sofia from Bulgaria. They won away from home 1-0 only to lose 1-0 at home themselves, the game went to penalties and it was Lantisia who triumphed to advance to the third round. Unfortunately for Lantisia they had to get past Toulouse FC if they wanted to get into the group stages, they lost narrowly both times, 2-1 at home and 3-2 away. After advancing to the third qualifying stage they earned entry into the first round of the UEFA Cup where they got hammered 5-0 away to Villarreal before losing narrowly 1-0 at home.
Stravchine Balanvinski were drawn to face FC Artmedia Bratislava in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Cup, they lost away from home by 4 goals to 1 before winning 2-1 at home, it wasn’t enough and they got dumped out 5-3 on aggregate.
The Argyres Myrmidons faced KI from the Faroe Islands in the first round of the Intertoto Cup and beat them 3-1 home and away to advance to face AaB of Denmark. Argyres beat the Danes 3-1 at home and clawed a goal back in the final minutes of the second game to make it 2-3 and advance to the next round 5-4 on aggregate. The next match was against OFI Crete, a battling draw at home in the first leg was followed by disappointing 2-0 defeat away from home and Argyres were out of the Intertoto Cup. Isoeph Cup
The group stages were played at the beginning of the season and the following teams advanced from the groups:
Argyres, Stravchine Balanvinski, Bozarburg, Faradafry, San Angel, Nodnol City, FC Jasque, and Wegason.
In the quarter finals, Faradafry beat Nodnol, San Angel beat Wegason, Argyres thumped Bozarburg and FC Jasque narrowly got past Balanvinski. The semis saw FC Jasque defeat San Angel while Faradafry thumped Argyres 4-0.
The final was played between Faradafry and FC Jasque and a game dominated by FC Jasque eventually saw them triumph with two late goals from David Bell to secure the first silverware of the season for FC Jasque. Emperors Cup
Picking it up from the quarter finals, United Commonwealth Club beat Faradafry City 2-0, Port Nelson lost at home to Whitefield United 1-0. Second Division side AFC Posul, having a great season, lost to Newtonia 2-1 at home while San Angel scraped past Lantisia on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
In the semi finals Newtonia beat San Angel 2-1 and Whitefield beat U.C.C. on penalties. The final saw Whitefield United defeat Newtonia by 3 goals to 1 thanks to two goals from Victor and a goal from Mattia Mixtel. The Ellisian National team
The effect of the new division and players has not been felt yet as Ellisia registered only two wins in the 7 games they played, and they were against Hong Kong and Liechtenstein. They lost to Sweden and Denmark 2-0 and 4-0 to Spain to finish 4th in their qualifying group behind Spain, Sweden, and Denmark.

Three teams raced off to a fast start at the beginning of the season as after 10 games Argyres Myrmidons were leading the league, Lantisia were second and Nodnol City third. The next week Nodnol took the lead and held it for three weeks before Lantisia took the title lead.
As the season wore on Argyres and Nodnol began to drop off the pace and FC Jasque were starting to apply some serious pressure to Lantisia and took the lead in the title race after the 17th game of the season before Lantisia grabbed it back after game 20. FC Jasque then took the lead against after game 22 and the title race was now neck and neck between these two teams.
With three games to go in the season FC Jasque had 54 points to their name and games against struggling Balanvinski, San Angel, and midtable Shasarazade. Lantisia were on 50 points with games against Shasarazade, and early pace setters Argyres and Nodnol City.
Wednesday the 9th of April and Lantisia and FC Jasque are both playing game 28 of the season. Lantisia took an early lead against Shasarazade thanks to Patrick Rossa while FC Jasque went a goal down to Balanvinski through Peter Porter. As half-time approached there were equalisers in both games as Paul Quinn scored for Jasque and Paul Connolly for Shasarazade. With just over ten minutes to go in both matches a goal was scored in one of them, the orange and black hoops of Lantisia had, through Keith Treacy, grabbed a late goal against Shasarazade! A 2-1 lead and 3 points secured with FC Jasque only getting the 1, the title race was wide open again.
With FC Jasque now on 55 points, and Lantisia on 53, one more slip up by FC Jasque could cost them a title. It didn’t start well at San Angel when they went a goal down but it didn’t seem to matter when Argyres went two nil up before half-time at Lantisia. Jasque equalised before half-time as well to put them in a dominant position. Things became more tense when news filtered through that Lantisia had pulled one back but those thoughts were erased when Tuhuteru put FC Jasque 2 goals to 1 up with just under 20 minutes to go, it seemed the title was going to Nodnol. With ten minutes to go however San Angel fighting for a top four finish equalised and suddenly it was back to a 3 point lead as Lantisia couldn’t do the same at Herodotus Stadium.
The final weekend of the season approached and the atmosphere was tense. The problem for Lantisia was that Jasque’s goal difference was +25 and there’s was +17. They’d need to hammer Nodnol City, fierce rivals of FC Jasque, while at the same time hope that the attacking Shasarazade who were fighting for a top-half finish would hammer FC Jasque.
Delirium broke out at Witterbach Stadium when Shasarazade scored within 2 minutes of kickoff but this turned to silence when news broke that FC Jasque had a penalty. Remy missed for FC Jasque but before Lantisia fans could celebrate, he scored from the rebound and it was 1-1. The game at Lantisia remained scoreless through to half time. After half-time Lantisia were pressing hard and scored in the 54th minute, only for Nano to equalise for Nodnol. Shasarazade had taken the lead against FC Jasque and this news spurred Lantisia to attack and attack, they scored a second, and with a minute to go in the game scored a third. They were leading 3-1 and Shasarazade were winning 2-1. It wasn’t going to be enough. FC Jasque had won the title.

FC Jasque were going to enter the Champions League while Lantisia and Whitefield United entered the UEFA Cup, Grimme received the Intertoto Cup place. The performance of Lantisia and the other Ellisian teams in the European competitions this season had gained them an extra place in the UEFA Cup for the 2008/2009 season. Ellisian Second Division
AFC Posul won the title by 4 points from Spark Rovers of Faradafry. Malastaire Rovers and Estaag United were only a point behind. Adelphia Spartans narrowly avoided relegation with a last day win over Wolverton to condemn Old Castle Swifts to the drop.
In the play-off, a determined Stravchine Balanvinski, who had endured a terrible season, crushed Spark Rovers over two legs 5-2 to maintain First Division status.

I must say that this is an absolutely superb idea - probably the most promising AI Experiment since Kipfizh's original!
Here's hoping it's as successful!

 Great run by Lantisia. Shame they won't be back in the Champs Cup next year. They'll be back, though!
