I like to adress the myth of the need for a left footed left winger.
With the likes of Lennon,Malbranque, taarabt, routledge,Rose,Bale and Tainio as possibilities for the positions on the wings, why would we sign another winger?
Agreed, Tainio might not be ideal and Routledge might not be good enough. But with lennon and malbranque I think we have 2 really good first options.
Yes malbranque cuts inside alot, but it's not like we are looking to get to the byline and get crosses in continiously. Lennon doesnt get many crosses in from the right whilst he's right footed. We look more for swift passing movements, giving the 2 wingers lots of freedom to cut inside and/or switch sides.
Signing another winger, eg if we had signed petrov, we would stop the growth of players like taarabt (who i believe will feature on the wings and maybe move to the center when more mature), Rose(who I personally can't rate yet, but I trust the board in the idea that he must be a talented individual for his age) and possibly playing Bale left midfield (which I rather not see happening, but Lee and ekotto are still around). And ofcourse Routledge who is only 21 years of age.
On top of this I can see spurs employing a 3 man strong center midfield in away games with one free attacking midfielder/winger, eg how lennon was used frequently last season.
Also should adress that the writing off of Ekotto is pre-mature, giving a 22 year old just a handful of games in his first season in the premiership and to come to the conclusion he isn't good enough just isn't fair.
On the midfield general topic (sorry for sqeezing everything in,not in mood to write to different articles),I personally reckon Zokora will prove to be a hit this season, having had his first season and over come malaria(which shouldn't be taken lightly!).
Oh and important season for Jenas, I reckon he has it in him but also think he is running out of time to put his stamp on the spurs team properly.
