Are you reading just the starting line-ups? You've played in as many games as every one else. Several goals too...

"What a dreadful day" Kopiteski Pravaya though out loud as he pulled on his warmups and boots for the morning training session. "Just bloody awful" letting out a huge sigh. Head down, Pravaya slowly plodded out of the door, bumping into Powersov and Nicholas, who were having a conversation in the hallway.

"Oi, Watch where your going Prav" exclaimed Nicholas, "I just made it back from injury - don't need another knock before even taking the field!"

"Yeah, Prav. Hey, why you looking so down." continues Powersov.

"Sorry comrads. I guess you didn't hear." mopes Prav.

"What?"

"Georgio Georgikov . . . he's . . . he's" (breaking into a sob) "DEAD!!!" shuddered Prav, letting out a huge wail.

"Huh!? Are you blinking daft, mate?" says Nicholas. "Georgikov was changing in the locker right next to you man! LOOK! There he is coming out right now!"

"Whaa?" says Georgio Georgokov, spewing out half chewed bits of cheese on toast "Why are you looking at me?"

you've actually scored some pretty timely goals for us Georgikov. Definately saved us a few points! I've heard of somebody playing a blinder - but a sleeper?

Russian Cup 2nd Round
St Pete's Boys vs Spartak Nalchik
Attendance: 2781
Weather: Drizzle, 20 Degrees

Starting Line-up: Berberov, Jenkov, Tonerovski (c), Molotov, Iliev, Bull, Powersov, Panstov, Nicholas, Georgikov, Anerdov

1st Half:

With Nalchik looking content to play a counter-attacking game, Jenski again told his squad to play it safe and not be caught on the break. Again, he might as well have been talking to himself as Nicholas, on his first touch, beat a player and took the ball wide. His cross to the far post was met by Pantsov, who controlled it and set the ball on a tee for Georgikov. The striker made no mistake and drove the ball home for an opening goal. 1-0 Georgikov

Nalchik tried to flood their players forward to recover from the early strike, but it was the boys turn to play counter-attack and when Nicholas sprayed the ball wide for Powersov, the winger had acres of space to move forward. His ball from the left found Anerdov, and the player headed home for the 2nd in the 8th minute. 2-0 Anerdov

The game went quiet until the 33rd minute when Nalchik captain Zarutskiy tried to go past Jenkov and the full-back pusehd him over. The captain lined-up the freekick, and hit a beauty, scoring from 20 yards out. 2-1

Nicholas had a shot saved just before the half.

2nd half:

Pravaya came on for Powersov. Nicholas had penalty claim turned down in the 52nd as again the visitors felt that his legs were fair game. Georgikov's shot in the 60th was saved. Nicholas went out for Misja. The latest sub nearly scored on his first touch, but it was a fingertip save. Anerdov hit the bar on the ensuing play.

Zarutskiy had a chance for the visitors, but in the 78th, after Jenkov made way for Chrzipplerinksi, a good team move resulted in Pravaya heading the ball down for Georgikov. The striker took it out of the air with his right foot and buried the 3rd. 3-1 Georgikov

Nalchik's captain hadn't given up yet, and he scored on a rebound to make it 3-2. 3-2

No more chances were to come as St Pete's cruised comfortable to the whistle and into the next round.

Final: 3-2

MOM: Pravaya
Manager's Picks: Georgikov and Anerdov, since all three goals came from this partnership.
Manager's Goat: Berberov only faced 3 shots. One from a freekick that scored. One long-range curler that he spilled, and the rebound, the third, which scored.
Overall Assessment: Expected to win this, so on to the next round.

So, do refs just not like Nicholas, or do they think I'm a diving crybaby?

Russian 1st Division - Game 16
St Pete's Boys vs Metallurg Krasnoya
Attendance: 13869
Weather: Dry, 17 Degrees

Starting Line-up: Toothrotski, Raskolnikov, Tonerovski (c), Kharp, Pantsov, Bull, Powersov, Korjev, Nicholas, Pravaya, Abuzaglo

1st Half:

The boys started this game out in front of one of the largest crowds to see them at home, and seemed a bit off form through the early minutes. Korjev's volley was the only chance through thirty minutes. Tonerovski picked up an early injury and had to be substituted by Molotov.

Toothrotski had to make a fine save on a Bulatov shot in the 34th, and it seemed to wake up the rest of the squad. Nicholas crashed a volley off the post, and though Pravaya got to the rebound his shot was saved. The keeper couldn't hold onto the ball, and Nicholas made no mistake the second time. His 10th goal of the season. 1-0 Nicholas

Nicholas picked the pocket of a Metallurg player on the ensuing kick-off, and decided he might as well go for a second. After beating two players he ripped a shot into the upper corner. 2-0 Nicholas

Now fully in control, it was no surprise when Bull pounced on an Abuzaglo rebound to make it 3. 3-0 Bull

2nd Half:

With two goals on the day, Jenski brought off Nicholas for Anerdov. Again, the Boys came out looking a little sleepy, and in the 57th minute a Danilov run fed a soaring Bulatev for a goal. 3-1

Anerdov just missed with a header in the 57th, and Pravaya seemd to have gotten the 4th but it was ruled out for offsides. Abuzaglo came off for cup hero Georgikov. Chances were still coming in droves for the Boys, and when Bull ran up to take a corner in the 72nd he found Molotov, who headed home. 4-1 Molotov

Metallurg seemed to collapse after that, as Korjev broke free to set up Anerdov with a nice turn and finish. 5-1 Anerdov

And then Powersov did the same, setting up Georgikov for another. 6-1 Georgikov

Final: 6-1

MOM: Bull
Manager's Picks: Nicholas, who had a perfect first half. Bull, who had a perfect game on offense and defense.
Manager's Goats: No-one. Tonerovski didn't have a great game, but he only made it 27 minutes before he was injured.
Overall Assessment: Krasnoya played 60 minutes of solid football. They gave up 6 goals in the other 30 minutes. The win solidifies the club's place in 2nd behind Rubin.

---

Bobski Berberov was reported late to training in poor fitness prior to the Krasnoya game. Jenski has warned the player that he will not accept such unproffesional behavior, and Berberov has accepted the warning without comment.
