Team: Rome
Opponent: Corinthians, in Tokyo
Competition: Intercontinental Cup

Result: 0-1

In a game ultimately won by unheralded defensive midfielder Juliano Nunes and keeper Marcelo Marinho, Corinthians only had one shot on target and it went in.

The game looked to be Roma's for the taking, and when Toothrot and Janz freed up BvR for a shot in the 11th minute it looked like a classic goal for the striker, but Marinho was able to dive across at the last moment and tip it wide with his fingertips.

In the 19th minute, BvR and Toothrot shredded the Corinthians defense only to see BvR's shot parried away by Marinho in a completely reflex save.

When 22-year-old midfielder Kleber Goncalves picked up a loose ball in the 56th, it didn't look very threatening, but the player beat Gautier and poked home the winner low past Roma keeper Masini.

BvR had another chance in the 71st after Janz set him up, but the striker's header was again saved in incredible style. In the 81st a similar play saw the striker miss just wide.

Team: Roma
Opponent: Genoa, in Genoa
Competition: Serie A

Result: 4-1

Genoa keeper Pietro Rizzo made a fine save against BvR in the 6th as the striker tried to score early, but after that he couldn't keep the striker off the scoresheet.

Herman Toothrot, Maximo Janz, and BvR were combining very well, and it was only a matter of time before a goal was to come. BvR went close with a low shot in the 37th.

Five minutes later, and Toothrot beat Cannavaro cleanly, and his cross found a running BvR to hit first time into the net.

Genoa converted a penalty just after the half, but from then on it was all Roma. Janz headed home from a corner in the 53rd, and then BvR showed he still had some pace by beating Lazzeri and scoring his second.

In extra time, BvR crashed a shot of the crossbar, and in the ensuing battle before the whistle, managed to get to the end of a Janz ball and head home his third on the day.

An easy win for Roma as the Russian were just outclassed by the Italian side. BvR tucked home a goal before half-time, and Roma added a 2nd in the second half.

Team: Roma
Opponent: Palermo, in Rome
Competition: Serie A

Result: 2-1

Palermo's negative tactics meant that BvR was facing 2 or 3 defenders each time he touched the ball, but the Roma captain was happy enough to let his teammates to the scoring. Di Pasquale and Borrielo scored in the first half and Palermo only threatened once, late in the game when they scored their goal.

Only a MOM game from Ivan Pelizzoli kept Palermo in it as the keeper was on phenomenal form.

Competition: Italian Cup, 2nd Round 2nd Leg

Result: 2-4, Udinese win on Aggregate 3-4

BvR watched from the stands as Roma fans were left disappointed both by their teams performance, and their last chance to say goodbye to the legendary striker as his manager made a late decisision to leave the player out of the game squad.

Roma went up on aggregate by 3 goals in the first half only to see Australian Jay Lucas score 4 unanswered goals to turn the tie on its head.

Transcript exerpt: Roundtable discussion on what BvR brings to Juventus

Mexico manager, and former Serie A Champion Mattimosi Janz talks about BvR's traits

Well, what I think is clear John, is that BvR immediately gives Juventus a proven goalscorer to lead their line with experience. Juventus is quite laking in out-and-out strikers and this addition should help them score quite a bit more.

BvR's biggest qualities have always been his seemingly sixth sense ability to find the goal no matter where he is on the pitch, and his ability to score when it seems he can't. He does the unexpected and the impossible so often it keeps the defense unbalances and unnerved.

Add into the fact that for pure movement without the ball, there is not a player currently playing who is better, and the fact that no one puts more effort into the game, and you can see why BvR has had the success he's had.

As for weaknesses, I think there are two that teams have always tried to use against him. the first is his aerial prowess. Granted, he's scored a lot of goals with his head, but matched up against a tall center-back he can be shackled. Despite his strength, BvR also has a tendency to avoid challenges rather than be tackles, and he can sometimes be intimidated...

Team: Juventus
Opponent: Spezia
Competition: Serie A

Result: 1-0

Although BvR couldn't get a goal in his Juve debut, he did enough for his new club to secure a win.

The striker nearly scored a memorable goal in the 2nd minute, curling a long range shot just inches wide.

Spezia keeper Niccolai was doing his best to keep Juventus scoreless, stopping several shots with fine saves. In the 50th minute Camara wasted an excelelnt BvR throughball with a shot wide that he really should have scored.

Finally in the 82nd, BvR had the better of Niccolai, and the keeper had no choice but to take him down with a professional foul. He was given a straight red, and after Buffro converted the pk, Juventus comfortably rode the goal to the win.

BvR well covered by the Fiorentina back line, and when Juve was reduced to 10 men in the 60th minute, the game was always going to be a struggle. BvR came close with a header and a freekick, but Fiorentina scored in the 89th as De Falco scored on a header from a Veronese freekick.
