The magical Willem II returned to the football pitch to continue their amazing form. My first opponent after long break was NAC Breda. None of my new guys start, but finally I could put my beloved Willem Janssen back into the squad. He was sitting on bench though since his condition weren't perfect yet.
Dutch Premier Division, Week 18 Willem II 2:1 NAC Breda (13., 38. Cengizhan Topal)
So another nice win, keeps us on good form. Topal continued his great form and is now co-joined best goalscorer in the league. The match itself was very good and we enjoyed our play, which NAC just couldn't adopt with. I love our style lately. 12th of February 2011
I was frustrated. Guess who was chosen as referee? Mr. Richard Liesveld. I did not let it affect our prepration for the game, but to medias questions, I answered with: "I have already given my players instructions to stay 10 meters onside all the time and not to touch opponents." Willem Janssen returned to first team.
Dutch Premier Division, Week 19 AZ Alkmaar 0:4 Willem II (1. Willem Janssen, 45.,65. Vartan Mazalov, 90. Abdul Haouli)
This game and perfection can be used in one sentence. Just look at the scoring minutes. This game opened my eyes for one tactical change. Jaime Valdes becomes a bencher! Willem Janssen is much more better to my tactics, he stays where he have to stay and once he goes upfront to shoot, he scores. Unlike Valdes, who has even more shots than strikers, but has only scored a couple of goals with like 100 shots. 20th of February 2011
Willem Janssen become a first teamer, as the great Willem, who just raised to the second place, marched on to conquer Feyenoord. Unfortunately, our top sniper, Cengizhan Topal, got injuried during the match againist AZ, so he is out of this and the next game.
Dutch Premier Division, Week 20 Willem II 2:0 Feyenoord (11. Abdul Haouli, 86. Willem Janssen)
Great win once again. A win, that puts the team from Tilburg to first place! The team had a perfect match again and it's becoming joy to watch when Willem II plays. In last 2 matches, everything has worked like a clockwork. From Gk to strikers. 26th of February 2011
From voetbal.nl Quote: Tursk slaps back at Koeman
In pre-match warm up to this weeks big game between PSV and Willem II, the managers of two clubs have really spiced up the encounter. The latest one to open his mouth was Willem II manager Tursk on today's press conference.
"Willem II won't win the title or get into Top 3 either. They don't have enough quality, espescially staff-wise," stated PSV's manager Ronald Koeman yesterday.
The quote obviously upset Willem II manager Tursk, and the later slapped back at PSV's coach by saying, "Well, we're first in the table, they're fifth. Who lacks the quality are obviously not us. Even if they win the match, we wont fall behind of them. I may give him some tips how to manage a football club before the game, so he could even compete with us."

Dutch Premier Division, Week 21 PSV 2:0 Willem II
Damn! I shuld have not choose Cengizhan Topal for first team yet, he seemed okay, but this injury really had done something to his confidence as he had a very bad game. Also, we got some very bad and not very honoust game in the box againist us. Anyway, if you don't score yourself, the opponent will score. Sad lose as Ajax went past us in the table. Win would have made CL ticket 90% reality.

So, immediatly after PSV game, I had to get back on track as we met relegation fighters Heracles away. Despite some bad performances on Sunday, I decided to face Heracles with almost the same squad.
Dutch Premier Division, Week 22 Heracles 0:2 Willem II (27. Cengizhan Topal, 79. Mitchell Schet)
Good start to the new month and another immediate recovery. I was very pleased with the play we provided and we deserved to win, though, we had some problems in defence. It was nice to see Topal scoring after 1 month goalless time (the date in last update is 6th of January, but actually it's 6th of February). 6th of March 2011
I was surely hoping for a win as wet RKC at home who hadn't won any of their games this season. Once again, I had that non-injury/ban period so there was no big names out. Except one bench man - Jonas van Hooydonck.
Dutch Premier Division, Week 23 Willem II 5:0 RKC (4., 13., 21. Vartan Mazalov, 35. Mitchell Schet, 88. Michele Canini)
With 13 minutes, the outcome of this match was decided. Great game from the lads. Should've done better in the secondhalf though. Maybe score a goal or two more also. Anyway, I was really frustrated at the end of the match, PSV scored an 90th minute winning goal. Otherwise, the gap between us would have raised to 4 points! 13th of March 2011
I had a very tough game ahead of me next weekend, as we met 6th placed Utrecht away. They had fallen off our pace after coming back from winter-break. I had a chance to secure our CL spot even more. After last match, I couldn't really make any big changes in the team ofcourse. Jonas van Hooydonck was already sitting on the bench.
Dutch Premier Division, Week 24 FC Utrecht 0:1 Willem II (69. Patrick Gerritsen)
What a great first impact from our January deal Gerritsen. He was constantly sitting on the bench, but finally got his chance today and he proved himself to be very good player. I may even use him more often. Though, PSV and Ajax are both unbeatable like us, so the only thing I do is going away from 4th place. Title isn't getting nearer. 19th of March 2011
So I was planning for a fourth consecutive win as we faced Cambuur at their own castle. They were in the relegation zone, but they weren't easy opponents as their form had been great lately. I had to do without Abdul Haouli, who was out on cards.
Dutch Premier Division, Week 25 Cambuur 0:1 Willem II (90. Cengizhan Topal)
We got our well-deserved win very lately. They're goalkeeper was keeping us on bay and I sent players all out on attack for last 10 minutes off the game. And it worked. Another 9 points fell into our pocket and we raised to first temporarily, since Ajax game was delayed due to cup match. 23rd of March 2011
I finally returned home! This time I was playing againist Sparta from Rotterdam. I was worried about the defence a bit since Michele Canini, our best defender this year, was out on cards, and Promes haven't really proved himself to be brilliant like Canini. I decided to give Patrick de Groot his first start of the season, after he had joined up from the bench 11 times already. Mazalov was looking clumsy lately.
Dutch Premier Division, Week 26 Willem II 1:1 Sparta (45. Patrick de Groot)
The anger in me was big in me after the game! Sparta scored from their only decent attack of the evening, from a ridicilous free kick. We couldn't even place our wall to block Blonk's shot! That draw probably made clear that we aren't challenging Ajax for the first place, as I seriously doubt they're going to give up points looking at their form. Though, I've got a home game with them.

Another month in race for CL place started off with a match againist Vitesse. I was not happy with the way we played in our last match, therefore, made some minor changes in attacking line-up.
Dutch Premier Division, Week 27 Willem II 2:0 Vitesse (52. Jan Vertonghen, 54. Cengizhan Topal)
Now that was better attacking play from us for sure. Though, we could've done a bit better in midfield, since I think we gave too much away. Though, win is a win and we deserved our 3 points and now I just have to set a higher sight. I want to finish 2nd atleast, since then I'm getting straight ticket to CL. So that would mean 4,5 million pounds in my pocket for sure. 10th of April 2011
Next game was a away match with Excelsior, who were not very promising team and we're fighting at the deep end of the table for getting away from the play-off spots. I decided to pick De Groot - Topal attacking line-up this time.
Dutch Premier Division, Week 28 Excelsior 0:4 Willem II (12. Patrick de Groot, 22., 32., 38. Cengizhan Topal)
So another great destroying from the Tilburg Boys. (The name of our new fangroup or ultras to be more precise) Topal is probably getting the goal-scorer award, since he has been the leader of our amazing attacking line-up. It was his 20th goal. Mazalov has scored 15 and van Hooydonck 10. De Groot has also got 3 in his name with Feyenoord knocking at his door. He has really started to show his potential lately. 17th of April 2011
In the next game, we faced off with no-one else than the mighty Ajax! I was hoping for a draw actually, though, it would give Ajax a chance to take a 2 point lead, if they'd win their one game which was delayed. I started with the same line-up, except one very important link missing. Our amazing left-back Leroy Fer got injuried for few weeks in game againist Excelsior.
Dutch Premier Division, Week 29 Willem II 0:1 Ajax
There went our title chance I think. Anyway, we didn't deserve to win or draw anyway, so unfortunately the best team won. I'm still 2nd though, since PSV has really lost their good piece of form lately. They're 2 points behind me with the same amount of games. We really missed Fer on left-back because Giacomini was just half as good as him.

So, I needed to get back on winning track, as we faced MVV in the next week's game. I did a change or two. I could not use Leroy Fer once again, since he's missing this and another game I guess.
Dutch Premier Division, Week 30 MVV 1:4 Willem II (27., 38., 66. Cengizhan Topal, 63. Willem Janssen)
It was another great win. This team can show their potential if they want. Cenigzhan Topal secured his top goalscorer title once again, as he scored his 3rd hattrick of the season if I'm not wrong. And it was nice to see Janssen scoring again. 1st of May 2011
We faced FC Twente in our race for 2nd place, but we had to do without Artur Kotenko, who got injuried. I didn't want to remember the last time he was injuried. Also with Fer out, my defensive department was much more weaker than usual.
Dutch Premier Division, Week 31 FC Twente 2:3 Willem II (7., 31. Patrick de Groot, 54. Willem Janssen)
So a very nice win. We controlled the match and my two favourite players scored goals. Patrick de Groot is now labeled as one of the best players from his generation and I totally agree! This guy just got 21, but he's great! 8th of May 2011
We had another must-win much as we hat to welcome Roda JC at home. I picked basically the same line-up as againist Twente with Leroy Fer taking back his left-back place. Kotenko was still out.
Dutch Premier Division, Week 32 Willem II 3:2 Roda JC (26. Cengizhan Topal, 35., 83. Willem Janssen)
Another win, but the defensive situation is worring me. We can't keep conceeding 2 goals every match. Anyway, what a Willem! What a Janssen! This guy is really back in form, awesome games. 4 goals in 3 matches. Ofcourse Topal made another step towards the top goalscorer title. Okay, it's won already... 11th of May 2011
Suddendly I have some hope! Ajax drew the rescheduled came and before last 2 rounds. The gap between us is just 2 points as they managed to get suprise draw againist Cambuur in Week 32 game also. 14th of May 2011
So, in the hope of 1st place, I faced a tough test. The home game againist Heerenveen was certainly not the most easy one. Heerenveen is one of the most afraid teams in the league I guess and they're really underachieving.
Dutch Premier Division, Week 33 Willem II 2:1 Heerenveen (20., 51. Vartan Mazalov)
Another win! Ajax drawed with Utrecht away. That means that magical Russian's two great goals put us in top of the table with 1 point, 1 week before the end! It was decent match and once again, I have to hail my amazing goalkeeper Artur Kotenko who's return from injury was just awesome. He was really on his toes for the last few minutes and what a game by him!

From Voetbal International Quote: Willem II vs Ajax, Who?
Tomorrow, the winner of the Casino Eredivisie title will be decided. Willem II is leading in front of Ajax with just 1 point, but are facing a very tough away trip to Groningen.
Ajax have an easier job to do as they face Vitesse at home. Without any major injuries, they're very probably set to win this match as Vitesse's form is not a thing to brag with. "It would be a big hit to lose the title once again, but we are not the one holding a lead here. Everything is decided by Willem II, only thing we can do is to win," stated Ajax striker Barreto. "We haven't been in great form lately, but I think that week got us some time to recover," added the January signing.
Though, the one's who are having a tough match ahead of them are the current leaders. Willem II are at Groningen at the moment and are anxiously waiting for tomorrows match at Euroborg. They have around 2000 travelling fans to cheer for them.
"We will go out tomorrow looking determined and hungry," said Jan Vertonghen. Belgian's word must be believed since Vertonghen is hailed as the best midfielders to play in Casino Eredivisie over the last years.
Tursk denied that his team is going to play with counter-attack style tomorrow. "We know very well what to hope from this match and past week we have trained very good. All the personal difficulties has been put aside," he hinted at some probable summer transfers.
Willem II are without injuried Mitchell Schet in this match and Patrick Gerritsen will probably take his place.

Dutch Premier Division, Week 34 FC Groningen 0:1 Willem II (17. Cengizhan Topal)
What a game... we fighted like lions in defence, took our time to build up the attacks. And who else scores than Cengizhan Topal, the Dutch league top-scorer this season. But unfortunately for him, he got injuried in 24th minute through a ugly tackle from Stefano Seedorf. Groningen player got sent off and that's where the game was won. Sort of... Kotenko and defence still had to work their socks off! Ajax won 2:0 againist Vitesse, but that doesen't matter. One point gives us the title. Just like I won the title on the last day of the season in Ireland! And another brilliant display from our midfield maestro Willem Janssen. 23rd of April 2011
From Voetbal.nl Quote: The future of Dutch football - Willem II
They're young, they're ambitious, they're amazing, they're joy to watch, they're champions - yes, this is the champion of Netherlands, Willem II. A club that can be hailed as the future of Dutch football.
When the season started, this club showed teeth in first 2 matches, but then faded away through 2 injuries. Soon they had fell behind off the leaders for more than 10 points.
But then, two great returned. Artur Kotenko, Estonian GK, who was never something bad or something extra-ordinary, then proved him to be one of the best goalkeepers in the league. Almost at the same time, another player recovered from injury. It was 21-year old left-back Leroy Fer, hailed as one of the best promising players in the league, he was already hunted by PSV. Those two returns turned the season completely around.
The games saw them catching up with the leaders every round. By january break, they already had catched the group and sat on 3rd place. The ten point difference had melted in few months. One of the games that really proved what that team was made off was a 3:2 win at Ajax. It was genius tactical masterplay and Ajax simply couldn't cope with it.
With every game into the season, this team matured and looked better. Soon they barely lost any games. First they talked about Uefa Cup place, then CL place, then already 2nd place and with just 2 rounds to go, they could already dream about the title.
And it happened on the last day of the season! Win at Groningen 1:0 showed, how mature and ready this club was for big things. There wasn't even one shaking leg, everyone played calm and confidently.
The guy, who this team owe's a lot is obviously goalkeeper Artur Kotenko. Estonian waved goodbye to last seasons average performances and now he is labeled as the best goalkeeper in the league. He's matchsaving saves haven't gone unnoticed in Europe, but Willem II is holding onto him. He's a player no-one at Tilburg would want to lose.
Then there comes the defence line. There isn't one single player, who haven't got any notice from "better" clubs in the first team. Right-back Paul Verhaegh has been rock-solid at his work and is rated very high everywhere. But he's contributiong is being over-shadowed by a guy in the other side of the pitch. Leroy Fer is becoming one of the most wanted Dutch youngsters and his this seasons performances have once again proved why. He barely made any mistakes and always gave 100% of himself.
Though, behind good defence, are guys in the middle. The Czech-Italian combination has worked perfectly. Michele Canini has probably been the best central defender in this years competition and Petr Molinek is up there too. Also Andrea Giacomini & Jerold Promes have done very well when called up.
But a place, where they got the most notice is the midfield. They did absolutely everything, they scored, they tackled, they defended, they assisted. Wingers Mitchell Schet and Abdul Haouli did just enough to give some great crosses to the strikers and also scored some goals. Though, most of the attention went on the later one, who was leagues best assister.
Jan Vertonghen & Willem Janssen - this central midfield duo left everyone's mouths open. Both just 24, they were unreplaceable at the team's second half of the season. You could only wonder what could've happened when Willem Janssen would have not got a five month injury at the start of the season. He was the brain in attack and he was a perfect link between strikers and midfield, scoring 6 goals himself. Belgian midfielder Jan Vertonghen earned himself a nickname "maestro" with his performances. He never did bad, he was superb at defending and brilliant in attack also. He isn't labeled as the best midfielder to play in Casino Eredivisie over the last years for nothing and he is certainly a hot favourite to win player of the year award.
Also Jaime Valdes, Patrick Gerritsen played big part in midfield success.
When you talk about Willem II's season, you can't overlook the strikers. 3 strikers reached 10 goals limit and one of them, Cengizhan Topal is by a mile leagues best scorer. Altogether, he scored 25, including the one that got Willem II a win in last week off the season.
But the partner off him was often switching and mostly it was 27-year old Russian Vartan Mazalov or 23 years old Dutch Jonas van Hooydonck. The first one scored 17 goals and the later 10. In the end of the season, some notice also fell on Patrick de Groot, who is labeled as one of the best strikers of the new generation in Dutch football. In 6 first team and 12 sub appreances he scored 6 goal and gave loads of assists.
Those were the players of the amazing team from Tilburg who suprisingly won the Casino Eredivisie title. But the brain behind it is no one else than the manager. Estonian Tanel Tursk took over the team in November of 2009. He immediately build a killer team and has often tactically outclassed his more known opponents. He did what no-one excepted from him. Despite all the struggles he has gone through in his managing career he is now hailed as a tactical genius not just in Netherlands, also outside of it.

Rep Power: 0 | Thank you axeman. I doubt in Europe success, but I'll try to get through the group stages and earn some money since that summer really ****ed me off! 30st of May 2011
Somewhat positive day ended with a disaster. First our wallet managed to catch a million from the sponsors as a big new deal was signed till 2014. But that million wont obviously earn back the loss that were going to have due to silly guys from local city council. "Local City Council has decided not to accept Willem II's request to upgrade their stadium." I swear I wanted to put that little council house on fire after that decision. 31st of May 2011
Around 2000 Willem II fans were protesting, but obviously nothing came out. They immediatly rejected our appeal and it was pointless. 17th of June 2011
I couldn't reject a great offer from Ajax for Jan Vertonghen. They offered me around 5 million pounds for his services and with this money, I can push up our finances and also make our squad more stronger than it was before him. Also Abdel Haouli leaves on free transfer to Young Boys in Switzerland. 26th of June 2011
It was my 600th day in charge of Willem II and I celebrated that day with recieving Manager Of The Year & Manager's Manager Of The Year awards. Also Cengzihan Topal recieved an award for his great goalscoring record. Though, I was disappointed with the fact that we didn't recieve Player Of The Year award, but maybe we should've let Vertonghen to stay here for 10 more days. 27th of June 2011
Next day our big buying action started. Our first signing was a new left winger. This guys going to be foreign once again like Haouli. The lucky one to play with us is Tarik Zikonni, 23-year old Algerian. He came for 1,5 million from Lille and is pretty talented from what I've heard from my scouts. Also, he must be good since he share's my magical birthday on 16th of December. 29th of June 2011
It was one busy day. I got my new center midfielder and another striker. The striker I bought for 500k from Las Palmas is Frank Demouge, who is Dutch and scored 26 goals in 40 games last term. He's 29-years old and he's set to fight for the 2nd striker place with De Groot, van Hooydonck, Mazalov.
But the central midfielder I bought was a bit risky move. I signed Gaetano D'Agostino who's not that similiar to Vertonghen. He's 29-year old, but he's more like an attacking guy and this move may turn into more conceeded goals, but I'll try to do something in those 2 months I've got. He came from Brescia for 4 millions. 30th of June 2011
After I recieved another bunch of shocking news I had to sign another player. First good news, I signed a new right winger Rick Kluiskjens. He's just 24-year old and has already proven himself to be a very good player. He came from Vitesse for 1 million where he had a little fight with manager.
But in another bad news. I have to play 3rd Qualifying round just like Ajax. PSV even didn't get into CL, since Dutch places are reduced to 2. It's crisis with the club football. But I believe next season this place is back. 6th of July 2011
So I went for some defensive cover/new starter. I signed Pablo Jose Gallardo on free. 25-year old central defender has been playing regulary in Spanish Primera Division for last few years and has done good. I hope for him to turn into first team guy.

Bravissimo!
One question on those Estonian superstars in your squad. You bought them as nobodies and trained them to superstars or where they undiscovered jewels at clubs like Flora or Dünamo Tallinn?
Asking because I tried somethings similiar with Lithuanian nobodies in a past game, but it didnt' go well.

Kotenko is pretty talented in the game and in real life also, so not much training. Piiroja & Vosko are also very decent in game. Espescially the first. Anyway, you'll get more nifo about Estonians today! |

Rep Power: 0 | Authors Note: I will play in group-stage of the CL. Managed to see one thing wrong. 31st of July 2011
I rejected a job offer from some non-English speaking guy, who said "national manager... come Ivory Coast... big money" all the time. 7th of August 2011
My season started off with Supercup. I didn't know what to think, since my players weren't really ready for the match so a win was hard to get, espescially at Amsterdam Arena, but I hoped for the best. I had all my players, except Mitchell Schet avaible. He was out on ban.
Dutch Super Cup Ajax 3:0 Willem II
That was a total embarassment. What an ugly match from our players. Just as I was afraid. The gap between the defence and midfield was so huge and technical teams like Ajax will take a good use of it. One of their key players was obviously Jan Vertonghen. 21st of August 2011
Despite having a long time to think about my problems, I barely managed to come out with anything, but couple of changes for our first league match at Rotterdam. We had to face off with Feyenoord. Schet was back.
Dutch Premier Division, Week 1 Feyenoord 3:0 Willem II
I didn't see the end becuase I stepped out of the pitch. I was obviously very angry with the players and the start of the season. 0 goals, 6 conceed. Both games were againist our biggest rivals this season, so that wasn't a promising sign. 24th of August 2011
Due to the trainings, I couldn't be in Monaco to see the groups of this year's Champions League. Anyway, our group is Chelsea, Rangers, Porto. That gives us some chances to qualify if we start to perform. First game is againist Chelsea at home. 28th of August 2011
So, we had our first home game of the season was againist AZ. That was about time to get some result as full squad was avaible. I made some major changes once again and hoped them to make some difference on the pitch.
Dutch Premier Division, Week 2 Willem II 1:1 AZ Alkmaar (3. Jaime Valdes)
For 3/4 of the game, we played with extra man, but still! Still, we couldn't win... The frustration was once again very big.
From Voetbal.nl Quote: Willem II confirm crisis
The crisis at Willem II are deep. "Fans & players are splitting up. I'm in middle of everything," said Tursk to the media after the game.
It's been reported for a while that a big group of players who are interested in Dutch big clubs & foreign clubs are unhappy being at the club and their recent bad form is due to that. Also, after Tursk hinted at possible "Italian job" after Feyenoord match, some of the fan sections want Estonian to get fired.
"Yes, it is true. Fans & players are splitting up. I'm in middle of everything," told Tursk, "I don't know what's going to happen. I now want to go home and I won't sleep before this problem is solved. To calm down the fans, I'm not leaving before the season ends."
Reportedly, Leroy Fer, Artur Kotenko, Michele Canini, Petr Molinek, Cengizhan Topal are the bad boys in Willem II dressing room and that's a huge loss, since those 4 are the back-bone of Willem II.
