So the players were having a month of rest, but I had my hands full of job and went to the club's offices to talk with the chairman Borloo.
"Hey!"
- "Hi! Something bothering?"
"Not much! Just that I came up with an idea."
- "Lay it down."
"I was thinking. We should organize some football cup which funds would go to the charity fonds. Like that UNICEF!"
- "That's a nice idea actually, but it's hard do make it work I think."
"You've got some people in the backroom staff, who rarely have job! Let them handle it!"
- "Yes, but it is hard to raise much funds, when we don't have big clubs in there."
"We could give them like 50% of the total profit and other 50 would go to the charity?"
- "That's a possibility, but which clubs?"
"I don't know. I'd like to have some English, French and Italy clubs with us!"
- "I'll make a couple of phone-calls and let you know in few days!"
"Thanks!"
- "Don't mention it!" 30th of May 2009
So I recieved a phone-call from Borloo. I was ecstatic once he said which teams he got to play. Tottenham, Parma & Monaco will surely get some people to watch the match. We're also having a friendly with Bordeaux on 28th of June. 3rd of June 2009
The competition "Valenciennes Charity Cup" takes place on 5th & 6th of July. 4th of June 2009
I recieved a phone-call from Ireland again. It was devastating, I have to go back again! Irish FA president told me that all the titles won by Cork in last 10 years will be taken an given away! This is not how things should be! I was mad and I won't give my medals away for so stupid thing! I will fight them back. The decision will be sued!
So I called Mr. Borloo again and told him what's the reason. I techincally were on vacation though, but I worked a bit every day. I let him know that I may not be back on the right day of the pre-season, which is 16th. I had planned a trip to Hawaii for those 10 days with Maria, but now it's all messed up!

So I drove home from local cafe. It was hard for me to again talk with Maria about Ireland trip. And even more about the Hawaii trip being canceled. So I parked my old Mercedes in garage and went in.
Maria was training at the gym as I went there. I sat on a couch.
"Maria, could you come here."
- "Problems again?"
"Yes. Serious problems."
- "What?"
"We have to cancel the Hawaii trip."
- "Because of what!?"
"I know you wanted to go there so much, but it's Ireland again. I have sued them as they took all the titles away from us won in my years."
- "Go then. Maybe you should go live in there!"
Maria started crying and left to our room. I know it's hard for her, since I'm often away for very late hours and we can't spend time together. She was waiting for it. After 15 minutes sitting there I went up. She was crying in the bed.
"I'm sorry. I wanted to go there too. I wanted to go too, but the titles we won with Cork are result of hard work made in 1,5 years. I can't just let them take away them from me, players and fans... I lived into this club in the time. That's why I care about them so much. Me, players and fans loved eachother. It is true, that I've sometimes put Cork on first place in my mind and it's wrong. When I go back again, doesen't mean every piece of my heart doesen't love you. I will take you to Hawaii soon. I will get it over with as soon as possible. Then I'll talk with my chairman and get some more days off so we could go to Hawaii when I'm back."
There she hugged me. With tears still dropping from her eyes. She then promised to help me and get me the best lawyers out there also.

I had quickly got myself some good lawyers, just in case. It was predicted to be done case in with 3 times in the court. They have no valid reasons to take the titles away from Cork. Sure, the president was a scum, but only thing they can do to Cork is put them on sale and getting all the profit to the country. (Authors Note: I'm too lazy to write it long, so not making it very long.)
That had done, but Shelbourne didn't want to accept it. It was the lawyers job to get the titles back. 14th of July 2009
So the case was completed with 5 sessions in 8 days. Maria was just there to support me. I thanked her and the lawyers for the great job they made. Cork got their titles back! I was the hero again. After the last session was over, Cork fans were on the street of the Dublin and with banners "Come Back, Tanel!" This will not happen, but it was great gesture. 15th of July 2009
So I had asked myself 10 days off from 16th to 26th so I'd be back just before the game againist Bordeaux. Before I left, I met the players and one of the guys I met was a youngster, 16-years old Julien Martini. He played againist Nice in the last match of the season and I had a little project with him and called Martini into my office. He's an striker.
"Hello, Julien."
- "Hello, boss. What's up?"
"I've got an little offer for you!"
- "And what would be that..."
"I think you have some talent to be a decent Ligue 1 player and I'd like to work on it."
- "That's great!"
"I'd like to play you in couple of matches in cup's and stuff. And often bring you to the first team training."
- "It would be awesome, boss! I can't express how happy I am now! It is great news."
"That's great. I can't wait to see how it turns out. It surely won't make you a weaker player. You can now leave."
- "Goodbye!"
"Bye bye!"

So I had a nice trip to Hawaii. We learned their culture and I also played some footie with them. It was great and Maria is happy again! Anyway, I had a friendly with Bordeaux, which ended with a very pleasing and unexcepted result for us. We won 3:1 in an evenly balanced games through to brace from Sebastien Heitzmann and a own goal from Bordeaux's Matthew Upson. 3rd of July 2009
So some of details were announced. Mr. Borloo came out with a shocking announcement for me as the team expands the stadium from 11 000 to 18 000. It is much needed though, since last season we had full house all the time. For that they took a 9.5 million loan. For my transfer budget, I had an healthy 7.5 million pounds which I'm gonna spend wisely. 5th of July 2009
Negotiations with several players we're already going on, but I had to start Valenciennes Charity Cup! In semi-final match, we met other French team Monaco and lost despite showing a lot of charecter. In 1:2 loss, our only scorer was Sebastien Heitzmann. 6th of July 2009
The odds for us winning the league were 2000/1, but that was not in our mind as we tried to raise some charity funds and also win Parma in 3rd place play-off. That didn't happen though. Despite grabbing the lead through Heitzmann's goal, we were second best through-out the match and eventually lost 1:3. Monaco won in the final. We collected loads of funds and surely can be proud of ourselves. 9th of July 2009
Finally we opened our transfer market. Our first singing was an attacking midfielder/foward Romaric. The Ivory-Coast international joined with us from Ligue 2 outfit Le Mans and surely was one of their most outstanding players last season. I were monitoring the 26-years old already in January. He is very skilled and is set to start in First XI behind Heitzmann. So we completed out first mission of the transfer market by signing support-striker. 10th of July 2009
We continued our raid. It was a big name signing to be honoust. We got an 28-year old defensive midfielder Benoit Pedretti who has loads of Ligue 1 experience and is very talented. Unfortunately for him, he had fell into Ligue 2 with Nice and was unhappy there, also handed in transfer request which made us sign him for 2,1 million pounds. He also has 22 caps for France. 12th of July 2009
We continued the impressive transfer campaign by signing another big talent of the European football. We snatched him under the noses of Manchester United (English champion), Lyon (French champion) and Parma (third in Italy). The player was talented Dutch defender (central and right) Gianni Zviberloom, who is 22-years old.
And the teams we will face in the league:

"Tanel! The press conference starts soon!"
- "I've got no time. Do it yourself."
"It is your buy! Not mine!"
- "Hence, I'm watching TV. Shut up! Go and present him to press!"
So another player was signed. Danish playmaker Patrick Kristensen costed us 200 000 pounds which is cheap for his talent. He was hundet by several wellknown clubs. Most known club was Galatasaray. He's 22-year old and has a nice shot. I don't know whether will he play in First Team or not. He's great addition anyway! 20th of July 2009 Quote:
Roks appointed by Holland, Utrect looking for new manager
Casino Eredivisio outfit Utrecht had to look for a new manager has Dolf Roks, who lead them to 4th place in league, became manager of Holland national team and resigned from club.
The favourite seems to be Estonian Tanel Tursk, who at the moment has last year of his contract with French club Valenciennes. Tursk himself has denied the speculation by saying, "I've got no intention in leaving. Not even when Internazionale would come knocking at my door! I want to remain in the club for 2 more years!"

Valenciennes hunting for Italian defender
Promoted Valenciennes are hunting Italian promising defender Michele Canini according to reports in Italy. The 24-year old central defender is co-owned by Serie B's Ternana and last year's champion Lazio.
Canini is one of the most promising players out there and Valenciennes has reportedly put 1 million offer for both clubs. All 4 parties deny any contact.

I started off my league campaign with Metz! Before the game, I got an shock phone-call, where Valladolid's chairman offered me a job in Spain, which I rejected. In my first Ligue 1 game, I decided to start: Petric; Lund, Piiroja, Zviberloom, Davids; Pedretti; Deruda, Gafour; Bettiol, Romaric; Heitzmann. I had full squad to choose from.
French First League, Week 1 FC Metz 2:0 Valenciennes
I got chiped two times and lost thanks to them. Stupid goals, but Metz deserved their win. Our best player was Pedretti. Other debutants did bad. It was a surpise to me since 3 pre-season games made the season look promising. But that's just the first game.

We signed Michele Canini. The fee remains disclosed. As said before he is 24-year old Italian central defender and joined from Ternana/Lazio. 1st of August 2009
So we had our first home match in Ligue 1. I was hoping for a win againist Guingamp, as all of the players were avaible. The odds were stuck againist us.
French First League, Week 2 Valenciennes 0:0 Guingamp
We were lucky to get away with a draw. They owned us, but Anthony Scribe was good in goal. We had our chances too, but obviously it wasn't enough to open our scoring account in Ligue 1. Atleast we got out of the relegation zone! 8th of August 2009
PSG manager paid me respect by saying I will save the club from relegation as we prepared to meet them on warm Saturday evening. They had 2 wins from first two games and surely were one of the favourites to win this season. I had no injury problems.
French First League, Week 3 PSG 2:1 Valenciennes (75. Sebastien Heitzmann)
We showed some character in second half and lost thanks to penalty. Atleast we scored our first goal and who else than Heitzmann. This gave me some hope towards the season. 15th of August 2009
It was our first game where I was really sure of win. We met Lille at home. They had 0 points so far and were last in the table. I still had all the players injury-free.
French First League, Week 4 Valenciennes 2:1 Lille (47. Patrick Kristensen, 59. Thomas Deruda)
Team showed nice spirit by coming back from 1:0 down. Kristensen scored his first goal, Deruda was voted man of the match. We're now few points away from relegation zone. We also were very good infront of the goal, having all nine shots on goal! 17th of August 2009
Thomas Deruda became the first Valenciennes player to get into ToW this year. 22nd of August 2009
On the fifth week of Ligue 1 action, we travelled to Troyes, who were decent outfit this season. I had not much to hope for though. Injury-list: 0.
French First League, Week 5 Troyes 1:1 Valenciennes (93. Sebastien Heitzmann)
Nice Sebastien! That was good. It was our 5th point and now we're slowly making a gap with relegation zone. 15th position. We played decent match, though they were a bit better.

We had a though home game againist decent Strasbourg who were predicted for mid-table "success". I was hoping to continue my fine form though. I had no Anthony Scribe, so Denis Petric had no competition for the GK gloves.
French First League, Week 6 Valenciennes 3:1 Strasbourg (17., 24., 52. Romaric)
Strasbourg got totally owned. I wasn't excepting that. Romaric was from different world! We had the game won as they had player sent off. Two of Romaric's goal came thanks to Heitzmann, who earned that red card for opponent, a free-kick which Romaric scored from & also a penalty. Great striker link-up! 27th of August 2009
I completed the last signing of the season. From Portsmouth, I got transferlisted attacking midfielder Martin Ericsson, who has some caps from Swedish NT. He is a decent player and age is not very old either - 28. 31st of August 2009
Denis Petric, Raio Piiroja, Romaric & Sebastien Heitzmann were all selected into ToW as many of our players were away on international games. The games in Ligue 1 had been stopped. 5th of September 2009
We had a very though away trip to Nantes who were one of the best teams in the league. They struggled last year, but have found a new breathing this season. Hopes weren't high for us, but we had nothing to lose.
French First League, Week 7 Nantes 3:2 Valenciennes (51., 85. Romaric)
Romaric's 2 goals weren't enough since we managed to let in a 3rd goal in 87th minute. I was once again frustrated with our luck. Back in the Cork days, I got injury-time winners, but now it's turned other way around. Anyway, Romaric did good. 12th of September 2009
Our next game was againist other team that was tipped for relegation - Lens, but I was still aware of their strenght and very worried also. Scribe returned, but Petric had performed well lately so he remained between the posts.
French First League, Week 8 Valenciennes 2:0 Lens (45. Patrick Kristensen, 89. Benoit Pedretti)
Awesome job from the lads. We're unbeatten in homesoil. There were recordbreaking attendance of 18 000 people in Stade Nungessar and we collected nice 350k on gate receipts! Team did also very good and had Lens in their pocket.

Raio Piiroja selected in ToW. 16th of September 2009
Again we had to take a bus and drive away from Valenciennes. This time, we faced Rennes! They are struggling in the bottom, so I had a slight hope for the first away win of the season. No injuries again.
French First League, Week 9 Rennes 3:2 Valenciennes (29. Thomas Deruda, 45. Sebastien Heitzmann)
I was totally frustrated. We managed to play down a 2:0 lead to sail towards another 3:2 loss. We conceded first in 72nd minute! Though, the display was not very beautiful from us. But I'm so angry with this team playing down leads. 19th of September 2009
Hopes weren't very high as we met Marseille, who were fighting for the 1st place. They had great team ofcourse with uncountable number of well-known players. I though wished for a surpise on home stadium. No injuries.
French First League, Week 10 Valenciennes 1:3 Marseille (35. Patrick Kristensen)
We played okay match, when I'd count in the strenght of Marseille, but I was angry again. We were just about to score a second goal when they ended the match. Anyway, after the match I went to the chairman's place.
"Hello!"
- "Hello, Tanel. Not the finest of the results today."
"Nahh and I'd like to hand in my resigning application."
- "Why? Team is doing very good."
"Yes it is, but this is the place where I feel I've got nothing to offer for the team."
- "How's that?"
"I'm idealess! I'm constantly making same subs and stuff."
- "I don't know what to say. It comes as a shocking decision, but I can't hold you here either. Are you sure about this?"
"Yes. I think I have no power to develope the club. New manager would be better for you and new club for me."
- "Well, it's your decision then. I'll make the announcement soon. Anything you want to say?"
"Obvious. I'd like to thank the fans and the players and hope they do well in the future."
Here is the table after 10 games

| Pos | Inf | Team | | Pld | Won | Drn | Lst | For | Ag | G.D. | Pts | | -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 1st | | Marseille | | 9 | 6 | 3 | 0 | 16 | 6 | +10 | 21 | | -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 2nd | | Lyon | | 9 | 5 | 3 | 1 | 13 | 6 | +7 | 18 | | -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 3rd | | Nantes | | 10 | 4 | 5 | 1 | 18 | 11 | +7 | 17 | | -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 4th | | Paris | | 8 | 5 | 2 | 1 | 9 | 4 | +5 | 17 | | -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 5th | | Toulouse | | 10 | 4 | 4 | 2 | 17 | 10 | +7 | 16 | | -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 6th | | St. Etienne | | 10 | 3 | 6 | 1 | 15 | 11 | +4 | 15 | | -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 7th | | Rennes | | 9 | 4 | 2 | 3 | 13 | 14 | -1 | 14 | | -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 8th | | Strasbourg | | 10 | 4 | 1 | 5 | 13 | 18 | -5 | 13 | | -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 9th | | Caen | | 9 | 3 | 3 | 3 | 11 | 9 | +2 | 12 | | -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 10th | | Monaco | | 9 | 3 | 3 | 3 | 10 | 14 | -4 | 12 | | -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 11th | | Lens | | 9 | 3 | 2 | 4 | 15 | 16 | -1 | 11 | | -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 12th | | Metz | | 10 | 2 | 5 | 3 | 10 | 11 | -1 | 11 | | -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 13th | | Valenciennes | | 10 | 3 | 2 | 5 | 14 | 16 | -2 | 11 | | -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 14th | | Montpellier | | 9 | 3 | 2 | 4 | 13 | 20 | -7 | 11 | | -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 15th | | Troyes | | 9 | 2 | 4 | 3 | 15 | 16 | -1 | 10 | | -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 16th | | Guingamp | | 9 | 2 | 4 | 3 | 9 | 12 | -3 | 10 | | -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 17th | | Bordeaux | | 9 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 11 | 11 | 0 | 9 | | -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 18th | | Lille | | 10 | 2 | 3 | 5 | 6 | 10 | -4 | 9 | | -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 19th | | Auxerre | | 10 | 2 | 2 | 6 | 11 | 14 | -3 | 8 | | -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 20th | | Bastia | | 10 | 0 | 5 | 5 | 8 | 18 | -10 | 5 | | -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|

"Hello Tanel. Vitesse chairman here."
- "Hello. How are things there?"
"We are doing fine and that's the reason I have to tell you that you won't be hired."
- "What? I already resigned from Valenciennes. You promised you will suck the manager and get me!"
"There is a change in situations."
- "I see. You have turned into a back-stabber!"
"You can go back to Valenciennes or take a look at the job market."
- "It isn't that easy to go back and there are no good jobs avaible. Idiot!"
So I hung up the phone and decided, to stay tuned for the job market. It was good actually as I could spend my time with Maria. 3rd of November 2009
After 1 & half month as jobless, I feeled refreshed and had a press-conference in Tilburg. I was hired to become a manager of struggling Willem II. Chairman Jan Vullings introduced me as I was set to answe to many questions. So the avalanche of questions started to come at me. Why did you sign for Willem II?
To be totally honoust. There wasn't better opportunity. They are respected club and it's certainly better than managing in French II league or in Denmark. And the offer was nice too! Have you got any precise plans with the club since you signed a 4-year contract?
In my first season, I have to hold the club from relegation, then I'd like to work on. I haven't stayed in one club for more than 1,5 year. I hope this changes now. If everything goes well, I may even remain here for all these years and win a league title. Winning the title sounds very ambitious. But to save the club from relegation, have you got any precise plans?
Yes. I'm trying to adapt the club with my attacking style and I'm planning couple of transfer moves. What do you know about Willem II?
I don't know much, but after spending a day here, I think the team is underperforming, though no offence towards the players personally, but some of the lines are too weak. ...and about Dutch football?
I have tried to follow it over the times. It seems that the league is in real crisis with former powerhouses PSV, Feyenoord, Ajax struggling to find any good form. Overally it is good, but since every player is brought by foreign club - this league has problem with keeping up the bigger leagues. And financial wise, the moneys are not that big comparing to France which was years back on the same level. There are lot of youngsters in your disposal. Will you use them?
I will certainly have a look at them. Our young strikers, Patrick de Groot & Mitchell Schet, are awesome I think. They are doing very good with U19 and U21! They are scoring and playing regulary there, which tells a lot about their talent. I will certainly try to develope it. And in my first plans, they are in First XI. Are you happy that you have more than 10 days to work with the players before first league match because of the international break?
Yes, it is good for me. Couple of guys are still away for those days though. But I can work with most of the players. Players
