Rep Power: 0 | I think you had five competitive assists at this point, HD. If I remember correctly, glamdring is leading the way in assists for us but no idea about the divisional leaders.
---------------------------------- F.A. Trophy
2nd Round FMS United vs Blyth (Stade de Mao, Saturday 27th November 2004 - Attendance 172)
Having been booted ssquarely (and embarrassingly) out of one cup competition, I was determined that we would get a decent run in this one, and furthermore was confident that Blyth would do little to stand in our way. The worst result I could envisage was a draw, with the two league games rescheduled after international call-ups and the hectic nature of Conference football, our fixture list was already piling up, the last thing we needed was a replay to fit in.
The disgraced chesterfan2 earned another chance to impress after some good performances in training, indeed the side was much changed, only OMDave keeping his place from the side that contrived to throw away two points against Newport.
The less said about the first half the better. Neither side did anything particularly bad, but neither did they do anything stunningly well; the best player of the first forty-five was Blyth striker and eventual man of the match Clark Keltie, his direct running caused a couple of problems for Raptor and -Xenon- in an otherwise action-free period of football.
Little was said during the interval, the lads knew what had to be done, and their attitude at the beginning of the second half was far better. So much so in fact, that within three minutes we had claimed a lead. Nadessico's ball into the box had found the feet of flipsix3, and as he attempted to round Craig Turns, the Blyth 'keeper hauled him down. Amidst shouts from our bench for a red card, Turns got away with no more punishment than the award of a penalty; a penalty which Nadessico tucked beyond his right hand and into the net.
From that point we should have pushed on and claimed a good win, but that was never going to happen, and just after the hour mark we were pegged back, Graham Fenton breaking free of the last defender (Raptor) and squeezing his shot underneath chesterfan2. We huffed and puffed in search of a second, but in reality it was Blyth who came closer, Keltie shooting into the side netting after rounding chesterfan2 and then cracking a shot off the post deep in injury time. A draw would have to do, and the replay was just four days away. Final Score: FMS United 1 - 1 Blyth Goals: Nadessico (pen 48), Fenton (64)
Man of the match: Clark Keltie (8)

Rep Power: 0 | Tanel, I haven't set penalty takers, the captain at the time chooses who is to take it.
------------------------- F.A. Trophy
2nd Round Replay Blyth vs FMS United (Croft Park, Wednesday 1st December 2004 - Attendance 231)
Again only one player kept his place in the side from the previous game, but this time it was goalkeeper chesterfan2, given another chance to impress after avoiding disgrace in his last outing. Irishregan was back from injury a little earlier than expected and took up his spot on the right of defence whilst Spav took Brian of Nazareth's place up front.
Not winning this tie at the first attempt had caused some mirth amongst our rivals, so I was determined that we would suceed when given a second chance, but I counted without a Blyth attack that seemed to be able to hurt us whenever it wanted. Having said that, we were the better side in the first half, so much so that we lead to the tune of two goals by the break. The first was provided by glamdring, a lovely low cross into the box which Spav turned into the net, halfway through the first period.
By the time we doubled our lead (in the final moments of the half) we had been forced to make a change, a robust challenge on BobBev too much for the formerly old man and he came off nursing a chest injury, replaced by united_forever in the holding role. The Aussie didn't have much to say in the build up to our second goal, Leo30's long ball up from defence chested down by Peacemaker7 and laid off for sherm to strike a wonderful effort from the edge of the penalty area, watching as the ball flew into the top corner, leaving Craig Turns with no chance of stopping it.
Once again, however, having found ourselves in a winning position, we contrived to throw it away in the second half. Ten minutes after the break, just before we made a double substitution to freshen things up, Graham Fenton got goalside of axeman and nodded Sean Dowdall's cross beyond chesterfan2, opening the game right back up again.
With flipsix3 and Gricehead on for Peacemaker7 and Spav, I expected we'd have a bit more energy about us and be able to take the game back to the home side, but they had been given a big lift by Fenton's goal, and they equalised matters ten minutes later when Chris Bell made a late run into the box and mis-hit a shot into the bottom corner. We tried everything we could to avoid extra time, we even played the last four minutes against ten men after Richard Forster was sent off for collecting his second yellow card, but it wasn't enough, and an extra half hour was needed to separate the sides.
What I couldn't have lived with was losing in that extra time, so I was particularly thankful that we got off to such a good start. Within two minutes of the re-start, HD won a corner on the right and glamdring's inswinging effort glanced off Gricehead's forehead and past Turns, wresting the lead back in our direction. With an extra player on the field, we were able to control proceedings, and the second fifteen minutes were made largely redundant when glamdring's solo run down the left saw him cut into the penalty area and drive a low shot into the net, sealing our place in the third round of the competition. Final Score: Blyth 2 - 4 FMS United (after extra time) Goals: Spav (23), sherm (45), Fenton (54), Bell (64), Gricehead (92), glamdring (105)
Man of the Match: glamdring (10)
