Bryan: It can be both, and more. Whatever is considered good enough of an idea to draw people's interest.

I don't think best idea lacks definition in any whatsoever, and personally I quite like the award for best idea because its one award a person can win even if they are not the greatest writer on the forum, but the idea behind the story is still something worthy of an accolade, but I guess thats an American thing where you need everything spelt out to you in fine detail.

As for best idea, I think it suffers from a lack of definition. Is the award supposed to honor: A. A fresh game perspective- ie DS's referee story, B: creative editing, ie Belfast Celts or Jeff's Bottom Heavy story or C. A fresh approach to writing, like anything Mao writes. | I like the cut of your jib, sonny.
I'm all for the Best Idea. As PM7 said, its an award for those that can't write straight, but have a noble idea.
Now one last award should be given, Best Foggia Story. Now that I'm back I might just make the cut for that one. |

Well, Mao, I'm not sure your stories are quite unique enough for "best idea," maybe "least likely to continue" might work and you and Simon can share the award.
I'm now in favor of keeping "Best Idea" as I now know it's a broad-based category.
Is the definition of a "short story" still a story completed in 5 or fewer posts?

See Short Story is a bit ambigous with that I'd agree. We did set a five post limit, but thats actually a bit stupid, you could post 5 20,000 word posts!

There aren't many, if any, complete stories under 5 posts recently. It would seem that the mentality of the forum is for longer length stories. Many items that would once have been considered a short story are now relegated to the antedote thread. Maybe it's time to get rid of the award or change the criteria for it. Perhaps the category could be for stories that are completed within one CM/FM season?
BTW, is there actually a word or character limit on these posts?

Would have to be an actual proper completion though, not just a 'I've given up cos I can't be bothered'
The 7 day rule killed short stories, and you're right there simply aren't enough to merit the award anymore so I wouldn't be unhappy to see this one go.

| Thanks for the vote of confidence, but there might be some real tough competition for that award.

I had to curtail my first ever story due to a corrput save file.
Would that count as a short story?
