Quick question for those more experienced with FM 2008 than I: I started a new game with Valladolid. After looking through the good player guide, I picked up Bojan and Johnson (the one from MLS) at the beginning of the first season. Both went on to have spectacular seasons and I rarely needed to rely on another striker pair. I finished third at the end of the first season, which I think is pretty good given that Valladolid was a relegation candidate at season start. I got a number of offers for them and issued a hands off warning and, still, my chairman sold BOTH of them. The worst part is he sold them for $7 million (more or less) each when I had already gotten BETTER offers that I had rejected.

FM 2008 Chairman sells my best players- intended? Post #2
If it wasn't working as intended, it would probably have been fixed by now. In FM07, it even happened when you had won everything and had hundreds of millions in the bank.
I haven't been far enough in to see it myself, but from you are saying... my guess is nothing has changed.

I see.... that's pretty deadful and not particularly realistic (the part about a team with hundreds of millions selling its best talent).
Any idea if it is random, or if it is coded in as part of the chariman's attrbitutes? If it's not random, don't play with Valladolid if you want to keep your best players.

Chairman attributes had very little to no influence at all in previous versions. League and club reputation, combined with very healthy finances did have some effect.

It should do, and I for one have not seen it as bad in 08 as it was in 07. Saying that though, I can see how annoying it is when your chairman picks bids that have been topped previously.
Try to avoid this by having higher asking prices for players, this often means that teams come in with enquiries instead of a straight bid. Once an enquiry has been made, dont just reject it (as this can unsettle the player), but renegotiate asking for the full asking price. If the bidding team come back offering the full asking price then t least you get your moneys worth for him.
