Default Old timer stops playing FM08. Waiting for another patch.

I have always enjoyed playing championship manager and later FM. I think I began playing on the Commodore Amiga so that must be some time ago. I witnessed the tranformation from text to 2d and I experienced that the version of CM/FM got better every year.
I loved FM 07 and as always I bought the next version (FM 08) from the moment they released it.

After a month intensive playing I can only say that I am dissapointed about the game and particularly the match engine.
Besides the match engine I think the game is actually great. As always. The database keeps growing and the interaction has some cool aspects.

But the match engine ruins the game.
It is all about one on ones no matter what tactic you have. Dont start with too much creative freedom or long shots, please.
It seems it has got a lot to do with closing down and or marking. Please acknowledge this as a bug so we can wait for another patch.
My hair turns gray when I see central defenders walking the wrong way when all they should do is following their opponent strikers.

Another showstopper for me is the bugged corner routine.
If you place a player in the ´near post flick on´ position the routine seems bugged.
I will stop playing FM 08 for now but I am sure that from the moment SI acknowledge the match engine problems another patch will follow.
But for now, I stop playing because I am tired watching the one on one show.
What´s your opinion?

I've noticed that as well, the player at the near post just seems to head it well wide for a goal kick every time, he never seems to flick it on.

Just avoid using it, I tried aiming the ball into the box and found I started scoring again.

I have to agree with the first post 100 percent... ive never had any real gripes with FM before but this patch doesnt really make for a convincing match engine.

I do have faith all will be fixed in the future though so i shall play through my huge pile of wii/360 games, that i have neglected for years to play FM, untill it is!

I can't wait for another patch either, however I've got the idea that they are spending most (if not all?) of their resources on FM Live at the moment, so we might have to wait for another FM08 patch for a looooooooong time. That is not good.

Absolutely false. S.I. have made it clear that they had a totally separate, independent team working on FM Live.

The near post bug is definitely there, and definitely annoying for everyone. The AI continues to miss headers by 20 feet on me, but as a human player you need to make sure none of your players are set to near post flick on.

The one on one thing is brutal, although thankfully for me I don't see it that much. Must have fluked out with my club and tactics as I don't have 30 shots and no goals ever.

But yes I agree it is just stupid when a world class striker misses 5 1-on-1's in a row. Totally makes the game not realistic. Nothing like seeing a clinical world class superhero striker play like he is wearing a blindfold.
