Also on the subject of 1 vs 1's, I've noticed that a large percentage of the converted chances are actually from rebounds. Striker blasts ball straight at keeper, ball bounces off keeper, striker reacts faster than defender to put it in to open net.

Yeah definitely a lot of rebounds in my game as well.
Question: What do you think is the average number of 1 on 1's in a real game of top division football?
It seems there are way too many 1 on 1's as well in all my games.

| There are no where near as many in real life. It's unrealistic, hence why there are countless new threads regarding this issue every day, and why there will continue to be until it is sorted.
If you are watching a match on TV and someone like Rooney or Henry is clear through on goal, the closest defender is 5 yards behind, they only have the keeper to beat, you would undeniably get excited and expect them to put it in the back of the net (first time)
In FM08 however I don't get excited. I think to myself "yay, yet another great chance, now watch him hit it straight at the keeper" and sure enough 9 times out of 10, I'm right.
It's just not good enough.

| Absolutely false. S.I. have made it clear that they had a totally separate, independent team working on FM Live. </BLOCKQUOTE>
Not quite correct, I've done Beta testing for FML and I have seen some of the senior SI guys playing matches on it. Which does bother me, to be honest.

These guys do have time off they are prob just enjoying the game and have nothing to do with the development of the game.

| Yeah i totally agree with that. It is sad when you are at the point that your big guns are all alone on a break and you are hoping for a nice rebound.

I want a patch to fix the broken transfer market. The following is in the first season of a new 8.0.1 game. Nothing has been changed from the database:
<UL TYPE=SQUARE>Arsenal just forked out £24.5m on Sebastian Frey from Fiorentina. Sure, he's quite highly rated, but £24.5m??
Pompey just bought Downing (massively overrated in the game btw) for £18.5m.
Ajax just bought Aruca (some unknown Brazilian from Fluminese) for £10m. I've never known Ajax spend £10m on a player!
Villa just bought Ujfalusi from Fiorentina - £9m. For a 29 year old. Who isn't even that good.</UL>
In my 8.0.0 game (since updated to 8.0.1 and a few seasons played, so it *should* have most of the fixes implemented):
<UL TYPE=SQUARE>Lassana Diarra was bought by AC Milan for £22m in 2009.
Reading bought Sidewell back for £11.5m in 2009. He's now 28 and worth £4.8m.
Chelsea bought Ashley Young for £24m in 2011.
Aston Villa forked out £12m on a 30 year old Aliaksander Hleb in 2011.</UL>
Simply put, you have to pay extremely high prices for players that aren't worth it. I enquire to buy Micah Richards, Real Madrid want £57m. I enquired to buy Quaresma from Porto (not world-class, but good), they wanted £47m. I know you want to fend off interest from other clubs, but lets face it, if you offered £20m (still a lot of money) to Porto for Quaresma, they'd accept it.
I'm not sure how the transfer market got like this - it used to be quite realistic. Now it's just a bit of a joke.

Nothing wrong with having some time off, everyone needs that. The thing is, when you've just released a product that people have paid for and needs work versus a game which has voluntary beta testing with a couple of hundred testers and isn't on release yet, I know which one would top my priorities.
Considering the lack of communication this year (periods of silence, crossed lines and announcements in non-official threads which cause confusion) coupled with a pretty buggy release, it feels like a bit more than a coincidence that FML is there in the background.
No disrespect to SI, hopefully I'm completely wrong and they're working hard on the next patch. It just seems a bit too quiet sometimes, compared to previous years.

Why do people always have to precede a moan with their history of playing FM?
That doesn't better qualify their observations, in fact the reverse is sometimes true.
I've been doing almost everything you can think of longer than anyone on this forum, I don't use that as a badge of authenticity for my comments |
