I asked this question in another thread but it was slightly off topic.
At first I though it was just because I had a useless squad but after 2 seasons it has become apparent that the match ratings have been tinkered with. I only have 3 players in my squad that averaged 7 for the whole season, whereas squads I play against in Europe seem to have an average above 7. Some of my strikers, who score once every blue moon despite their finishing, average 6.66. Wtf?
Is this a bug? My tactics are the same ones I've deployed in every incarnation of FM, so I presume that these can't be blamed. If it's not a bug but something that was changed for 08, why bother? I'm getting really annoyed seeing my players average 6.88. I find it extremely diffcult to keep track of form and who I should and shoudn't play. Granted, these ratings don't actually mean anything, they could be graded with letters of the alphabet, but if they serve no purpose other than to judge your players form, why change it and confuse people who've played this game since day dot?
Btw, where does one download the patch from? I've only just realised that the downloads tab was defunct.

No, I'm not bothered about the lack of tens, I was wondering about the overall rating. I always used to buy my players on form and an average of 7+ is what I'd usually go for at the very least. But on my current save very few of my players (I think 2 at most) average 7+ for the whole season, which has made it a bit more difficult trying to identify which areas need strengthening. It has made it trickier to decide who should go and who should stay as I'm not sure what avaerage is an exceptable level of performance throughout the whole season. Judging a players performance with an average of 7 was perfect, allowing you to easily identify who should be shown the door, and who should be kept.
Like you said, it is not a major problem but I don't see why it was necessary to change it, if indeed it has been changed.
