First off let me ask that if you are a whining b*tch that uses this forum to vent frustrations from your sad personal life – then this is NOT the post for you. Just hit the “back” button and move on!!

As my thread title suggests - this is NOT a rant. It is simply a cry for help. I view most of the people on this site as hardcore FM fans who know the game inside-out and enjoy it (on different levels) as much as I do. And I need assistance.

The problem that I am experiencing is the fact that I lose matches 1:0 when I have 20 shots on target (about 25-30 on goal), while the opposition has 2-3. Most of my shots are NOT long range (maybe 25% are), and most are not under duress (maybe 25% are). I am talking about 50% of my shots coming from clear 1-on-1 situations, and/or a great cross to the middle that results in a shot inside the 6-yard box that goes over or the keeper miraculously saves.

(I know this is a common problem, and that many have posted rants on the topic. However, I am NOT interested in complaining. I am only interested in FIXING!)

This only started after I installed the Full Patch. I was not having this problem with the beta patches, and I did tweak my tactics after installing the full patch to the point where I feel I play even better that before! I win the position battle every match, and play a short-to-mix passing style with slow-to-mid tempo. I literally control the matches!

I have world-class Strikers (Huntelaar, Amauri, Bent and Lita), and fantastic AMs (VDV and Riquelme). I also have Lennon and N’Zogbia on the wings, and Carrick in midfield.

What am I missing? What is the problem? Is there a quick fix? Any adjustments that have worked for you?

Please do not reply with “the game is broken”, or give me 32 examples of how you experience the same thing. Because that would not help FIX my problem. Also, don’t tell me my tactics are bad because they worked before, have been tweaked, and pure match stats show my team is dominating.

I am only interested in constructive assistance!!

(Sorry for the long post, but I figured it would be best to give as much info as possible)

Thanks to anyone who can help!

Lower creative freedom, slow the tempo, go more defensive (not too much though). This hasn't happened to me, but it's pretty common advice.

I also think you'll have trouble scoring with Lita up front. He seems to miss a lot of sitters for me.

PS: Oppostiion instructions are quite important. Always have the keeper closed down and shown onto his weaker foot.

Buy a striker with high shooting and composure and dont rotate him, only sub him.

I'm experimenting with strikers who have specific PPM's to try and counteract this.

"Likes to place shots"

"Likes to lob keeper"

So far it seems to be working but it is early days yet. What I would suggest is a longer term solution, but one that I would favour.

Find a striker, (or pair of strikers with the following PPM's). Don't worry too much about ability. Thay are not going to play, they are there to tutour a youngster with good physical attributes.

You marry the PPM exper up with the good physical youngster and I think you have a solution.

Striker 1.

Shots attempted 42.
Shots on target 23.
Goals 11.
SOT % 54%.

Striker 2.

Shots attempted 94.
Shots on target 38.
Goals 16.
SOT % 40%.

It's not brilliant, but it's a marked improvement on what went before.

wwfan has posted his approach at: Shots to goal ratio ....

If you want more information/detail, I suggest you find your way over to the Tactics and Training Tips forum.

Amaroq - your philosophy is great. and I could not agree with it more! The problem is the solutions you offer are exactly how I already play my tactics!

My players have low CF, all my mids have good passing stats and are encouraged to try the thru pass, no one on my team has passing style higher than the middle (mix) and my top 3 (2xST and 1xAM) are all set for short passing, and most importantly, my team does play a patient style and create many GOOD chances.

Seriously, 50% of my shots are clear 1-on-1's!!

So while I agree with EVERYTHING you said, and feel very good at the idea that we share the same offensive philosophy - why is this still not working for me??

Is there anything else I am missing??

I play a 4-1-4-1, and was having the same problem - lots of attempts on goal, and losing games 0-1 or only scoring once.

What worked for me? Ticked the playmaker box, and utilised one of my central midfielders - who has high creativity and passing attributes. My 3 central midfielders including the DM, now have the top 3 pass completion rates in the league. I just went on a 9 game winning streak with the one little tweak, turning us from lower midtable to promotion contenders.
