Reading all these comments makes me glad I didn't go out and rush to buy the game. I'll stick to CM 01/02

On the point of the thread, I played the demo and whilst I don't know what the full game is like I found the game has A LOT of features, and whilst its exciting to test them out eventually they get repetivie and none of them are as good as they could be. A lot of the stuff you're doing feels pointless ... plus nagivating and managing everything is sooo time consuming. I know it's meant to be the most realistic simulation game blah blah but whatever happened to keeping it as simple as possible? It feels like theres so much to do and if you don't do it theres no bloody point in playing the game but if you do then you just get sooo bored and frustrated.

It has gone backwards. On FM07 player transfer were sensible, on FM07 teamtalks had an effect, on FM07 players closed eachother down, on FM07 morale was normal. The game has lost the plot.

I agree wholeheartedly.

For the massive feature lists this release contains, most of them are gimmicks and perhaps only 1 or 2 of them are useful features.

Media have always been a gimmick and this year, it's gotten worse with the "extended" media which has the same thing every game. It makes it tedious and if anything, makes the game less enjoyable. Especially when it actually doesn't impact the game all that much. Everything from pre-match, half-time, post-match to manager interactions have not been improved at all. It's still the same options since day 1. Even back then it was said the options were limited but nothing has changed.

The transfer market is even more insane this year. Things like huge transfer fees, AI bidding players as soon as you shortlist, players constantly upset at rejected bids and scripted transfers make this worse than last year's release.

What disappointed me the most is that finance, confidence and the match engine is also broken.
How none of these didn't get picked up is beyond me. But what worries me more is that these issues were picked up, but ignored and released to customers.

Out of the box, this release easily has the most number of bugs. It's all well and good to say there'll be a patch, but not all of your customers have the internet/knowledge to download the patch.

I love FM, it is easily the most played series for me. But each year, the innovation decreases and the bug count increases.

I hope the patch will fix this game and then for next year, SI do make a real attempt at delivering a game that is worthy of the series.

Otherwise FM will just become like an EA series.

this year match engine is so "good" that i just saw my 3 strikers Palacio+Delgado+Vagner Love not running after the ball when they were all 3 alone with the keeper, they just waited for a DC to get the ball... and i needed to score... on another hand AI players will score every 2 targets on shot because my DCs are afraid of tackling

It's just not worth negotiating or you lose the deal. If the AI bids for one of your players and you ask for a little bit extra they will often just point blank refuse and withdraw the bid. Then if you offer the player to them they just say not interested.. Right okay... how about some kind of negotiation ?

Why do clubs refuse perfectly reasonable offers for players whos contracts are expiring ? A player sitting in a teams reserves, unhappy he isn't in the first team, wants to be transfer listed. Contract is about to expire in 6 months is interested in joining you. So instead of offering a pre-contract you offer the club 50-100% of the player value yet the STILL reject it. You are going to lose him for nothing in 6 months and your not playing him ? why reject it ??

As for the silly transfer fees. It's funny how as soon as the AI is interested in the same player as you he is suddenly available for his actual value isnt it ? Either they know when the club is ready to sell him or they don't need to pay stupid fees.
Overall i'm enjoying FM08 so far but I'm getting the same problem as you and it's starting to put me off playing the game, as transfers in respect to selling players has been broken since FM07 and it's geting stupid now!

I'm playing as Watford i constantly get clubs asking how much i want for players especially my good young players, unless i say about 50% - 75% of his actual value they just say no, i mean come on if i try to buy a young star worth £100k they then almost always come back saying £1.2m + 40% sell on clause, then if you haggle they just simply keep increasing it, but when i try to sell a player it's almost impossible to get more than he's worth.

Or they make a bid for a young prospect like Jordan Parkes of about 80% of his value then when you try to increase the price to reflect the fact he's a young star they just refuse. It's stupid if they offer £100k and i try to negotiate to 250K + 20% sell on they should at least then try to haggle a little but they never do.

I don't think I've ever seen a response from Si regarding this, maybe they know it's broken and can't fix it?

you're missing the point of the "Key Man" comment there...

the "pundit" picks out pre match who he thinks the key man will be, then post match, comments on THAT PLAYER'S performance...
so OF COURSE it's going to be the same player before and after...

i thought after playing the game with the new patch i'd add to it, i don't feel the patch has done alot to be honest the game still feels unstable, the confidence issue is there, the long shots/closing down thing is still a issue

what i feel si should of done is perhaps just upgraded 07, i feel the match engine from 07 didn't need to be touched, i think what would be cool is if we could perhaps download the 07 match enginge in a patch or something and install it in 08 this i feel what make alot of the users happy because thats what most peoples problem is, then the people who enjoy 08 match engine can use that, thats my 2 cents

Anyways going back to what i was saying, SI should of looked at 07 and said to themselves how can we make this game better? they introduce confidence (This is potentially a good feature but don't work) now alot of things in fm i actually feel are pointless (team talks) (pre match talks/ media as a whole) i also feel morale is a major issue in this game, it seems if people are all happy you win and if there unhappy ythey lose and i tend to pick players on morale rather than stats, i also feel this version of the game is hard to keep clean sheets (maybe my tactics but i feel looking around alot of users have this problem) I feel the match engine needs a tweek, i just feel si have lost there direction of the game have the same people who worked on 05, 06 and 07 stayed together does anyone know? or do we now have a new match engine coder for example? , the game should of been improved from 07 and it hasnt is what i feel for many reasons , team talks and media have been pointless since 06 or 05 but people appreciated the efforts of si because it was potentially a good feature but i don't get why they havent got round to fixing this. But i feel also upgrading isnt the short term option either , yes these features NEED to be fixed or there pointless (i let ass man do my team talks) and ignore 90% of media as it just gets in the way, i feel there should of been a option of news and newspaper items being in same box like 05.06.07 the long term issue the game needs to be revamped in areas, transfer market being one, training maybe another, i appreicated scouting is being improved each year, the match engine has gone backwards and i do not mean i want a 3d engine because i don't , but visually it could come on (maybe see the stadium round the outisde and see banners/logos/billboards) also see players slide into the touchline if they miss a slide tackle, or players doing tricks/flicks etc, players getting into fights like arsenal vs man utd when ruud missed the pen, players surrounding the ref, thered alot that can still be done to the 2d engine that would make it that bit more exciting to watch.

Theres ALOT of good posts in this topic i wish si would stop hiding and take note or at least post on these forums to let US the COMMUNITY that made SI what it is today there intentions for the long run, i have no problem someone from si saying ok the game isnt up to our high standards we are gonna try to fix things in another patch after jan, or si saying we're happy with the game we've taken note of what the USERS want and will do our best in fm 09 but my problem is it feels my posts on these forums go unnoticed.

REMEMBER: DON'T FLAME ME, THESE ARE MY OPINIONS, RESPOND IN A NORMAL MANNOR PLEASE. PEOPLE WILL AGREE SOME WON'T

thanks.

(would be nice to hear from si )
