I think you're being a bit harsh, overall.
I think (using the latest 8.0.1 beta build) that FM08 is superior to FM07 in pretty much every way.
I'm really happy with FM 8.0.1 beta. It's tweaked pretty much everything (within the English league at least) to near perfection.
But, I do agree that the transfer market is a bit bloated. What's the point of having a value for a player when you have to pay twice that amount? Might as well be valued at twice the amount in the first place!

I think the gap between the people who just want to have fun when playing a footy management game and those who want the most realistic experience is the main problem.
The gap will not become smaller, but the developers have to decide in which way the game should progress.
As long as there is no two way strategy (FM2009 the fun edition, FM 2009 the most realistic management game) both sides will become more demanding or one will give up.
I like to play a realistic game, but to be honest, I don't think there are enough people like me for SI to survive as a company.
What happend to the icehockey manager could also happen to FM, if they don't implement at least some options to make the game more attractive for newbies.
It will all end up in the same way as every 3-D discussion will end. Why not? As long as people could choose between 3-D, 2-D and plain text.

This happened to you before?
Offering 20+ millions for a player and his club accepts a bid of 15million from your rivals while negotiating for 30+ million from you?
It's not like we are fierce rivals in the same league even though I may not be on the best terms with the player's manager. Weird common sense.

| sorry mate, but are you for real???
CM/FM has been an in depth, statistics based, "serious" game for about a decade and a half... and for at least the last half of that time, SI has had on their hands one of if not THE biggest selling PC game, each and every year...
"not enough people like you for SI to survive"??? sorry to burst your bubble, but you're not THAT special |

I, and many others, genuinely have no problem with closing down now.
| If 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 works in real life on the pitch, it should work to a canter on FM2008.

I laugh when I see "this is the worst game of all time!!!!!!!!" and then their reason is because there are no dugouts, or something stupid like their 07 tactic doesn't work anymore and they are losing.
give me a break this is a great game and when they patch it will be awesome
| Completely agree and sorry for bringing this up but i have just played the championship manager 08 demo and i thought it was terrible. So i would always stick with fm08 because whatever anybody says this is the most realistic management sim around. </BLOCKQUOTE>
the game is terrible... but the match engine, including team talks is much better than fm

No it is not!
The CM match engine is better than it was but still doesnt have the intricacies of the FM engine.
When you played it did you not see there were 150+ throw ins for example per game ?
As to team talks, I dont like them much on FM due to repetitiveness but the ones on CM are awful. "You can do it" type messages that often dont seem to tie up with the actual game.

My issue with this game is that I don't feel it has gone forwards at all from last year.
There are the same 'bugs' / 'issues' with the straight out the pack game as there were with previous editions e.g. morale issues, yellow/ red card issues, leagues not regenerating fixtures, general installation issues. These issues are normally fixed in patches but when the new game is released, there they are again and the cycle begins again.
I also can not believe the amount of people who do not buy this game until the first patch is out. This is something I would be shocked if SI was not concerned about as it shows an expectancy that the original game will be flawed in some way.
Now I love this game, I have no qualms with difficulty or anything like that, in fact I am currently enjoying a successful game on FM08 as we speak. But these little issues that keep coming up every year I feel really needs to be ironed out and done with before new features and things like that are implemented.
So I suppose what I'm saying is, I hope SI get the basics right and then build rather than build for the sake of it to try and outdo the competition and end up with more gameplay issues than before and try and release a game that doesn't need a patch to fix major issues, only minor ones.
