I agree with some of the comments and not others...though to be fair my laptop has had to go to the computer hospital so I haven't spent as many hours with the game as I'd have liked.
I still find the tactical side of the game frustrating...it's almost counter-intuative.
The "experts" on these forums say "closing down is not just a question of moving the closing down slider".
Well why the hell isn't closing down a simple case of moving that slider?? It should be!!
I just find the tactical side of the game leaves me feeling totally inadaquate and wishing I'd done a degree in applied physics instead of history.
I'm convinced the main reason these forums are so popular is because thousands upon thousands of FM players have no idea how to create a decent tatctic because it was become so complicated they just can't be bothered so they come on here looking for an easy way out.
I'm all for challenging but it's like chasing gold at the end of the rainbow.
Just out of interest has anybody bought/played Championship manager recently...what was it like??

I laugh when I see "this is the worst game of all time!!!!!!!!" and then their reason is because there are no dugouts, or something stupid like their 07 tactic doesn't work anymore and they are losing.

give me a break this is a great game and when they patch it will be awesome
hell yeah!

Match Engine
Well i alreadt pointed out the match engine has a clossing down issue which everyone knows about, now people go on about we now need a 3d match engine to take the game to the next step i personalyl feel this could be the worse thing for FM as the 2d engine isnt perfect after like 5 years, Why can't the dug outs also be at the bottom of the pitch, why can't we see rain or snow falling onto the pitch, why can't be maybe even see like banners and billboards round the side of the pitch to make it feel like we're playing in a stadium than a plot of land? Also why is it when commentray says the players are surronding the ref the players never are surrounding the ref, why can't i see my players running to the ref or the linesman? also why can't in rival games we see players all pushing annd squaring up to each other when a nasty challenge is made abit like man utd vs arsenal when ruud missed the peantly for example why can't some small things be put into the match engine to take it to the next step so it don't just feel like i'm buying a updated fm 07, but infact it actually feels like i bought a updated fm 06.

AI
Im sorry, but whilst I can agree that FM08 isnt hugely different to say its backward and listing what you have there is a little over dramatic.

Dugouts at the top of the screen ? Who cares..

Snow and rain faliing ? Who cares

Players surrounding the ref ? Who cares

Nothing you have suggested would make the match engine any better and I dont see how them not being introduced means the game has moved backwards.

If anything after the patch and seeing how the passing has improved and the player movement with fullbacks overlapping and linking properly with wingers its moved forwards. </BLOCKQUOTE>

These are minor things that would make the game play great. Especially players surrounding the ref, fighting with each other. Rain, snow adds atmosphere to a 2D engine that can not really go much further. Little things like these does help.

Might I add allowing managers to shout at players during game play PLEASE!

thanks for the replys and keep them comming, I think what i wanted to do is point out the game is going stale, there are aspects which need to be addressed, Media and Transfer market for instance which seems it didn't even get a look at.

Now i didn't want it to look like i was bashing the game, it's still a alright game but feel it's not progressing and don't think it's as good as fm07 i feel many partys of the game have gotten stale i tell ya what i feel would also be different if they change the opening of fm 2008 like maybe have the trailer for the introduction also have a option to skip it just so the game feels different, but anyways i feel many aspects of the game get overlooked then things get added that are not needed. I shall prob add to this post later as i have work now.

What's wrong with people?! There's nothing seriously wrong with the game. May be the pace of progression has slowed but the game has certainly not gone backwards.

You guys should just be happy that you got a great game that came out without any serious bugs that weren't able to get fixed relatively soon. When EHM came out last year we had to wait nearly a year for a patch just so after five seasons of playing player ratings wouldn't all go back down to 1! lol

Fred,
I like the idea of having a bit more input to a match other than tweaking tactics and team talks. Surely the motivation rating could be used to rate how well comments to players are received during actual play. Managers vary, but there are some who constantly bark orders and shout encouragement. Reminds me of Trappatoni's wolf whistle...

Of course, this would have be well thought out or could be something exploitable. Perhaps a manager could be allowed the attempt to improve a player's performance once or twice a game/half. There could be a downside if a manager was too hard on a player, perhaps on a consistent basis.
