After finishing my first season with Halifax Town, Winnins BSP (predicted 12th, 5th round of the FA cup (beating Wycombe, Bury, Burnley and Reading on the way), semi finals of the FA Trophy and Setanta shield, and singning players like Jason Wilcox and Ray Parlour (free transfers) and Frazier Campbell, Febian Brandy and Hogan Ephriam (Loan signings) all on a 0 transfer budget and a modest £12,560 a week for wages!
It makes me feel that im a lot better manager on this version than i have been on the past few versions, or the game is quite easy!
Anybidy else feel this way or had unexpected success?

I just finished my first season with Newcastle. The predictions were that my team is going to be around 10 (11th to be precise). After using the best option in the new version IMO - no transfer budgets in the first transfer window - and buying no one but loaning Justin Hoyte I just didn't believe it when I almost got to 4th place. I was just a point below... wait for it... West Ham. I had the second best scoring record, second only to Man Utd's (take into consideration that Martins was sold by the Chairman to Milan in January).
To summarise - I do believe it is a bit easier after the patch.

Well I'm seeing a pattern: it's become easier if you are managing an "underdog" team, much harder if you are managing a top team because the game gives you a really high handicap if your team is overwhelming the opposition in terms of possession, passing, etc.
When some people say that the trick is to make your team play worse in order to score more, I'm thinking they have a point. And what fun is that?
So ironically, I think it is those who are very good with tactics, that are doing worse with FM 2008 official patch.
In my present game (English Premier league), Reading and Aston Villa are the highest scoring teams by January, and they're not even in the top 3. Man Utd have less goals scored than games played. Not realistic is it? I'm not faring much better than them with Arsenal.

I started in Conference South...promoted (just!...came down to last game and scraped wins in playoffs) first season. Conference premier right now, 40 games in and I'm safe from relegation in 19th place, but it has not been a great season.
Now, in FM07 it took two seasons to get out of the Conf South and when I got into the main Conference, I could not buy a win for most of the season and went straight back down. This is with the same team, Cambridge United.
It might be easier, but I also think I have learned a lot since 07 and been more careful about tactics, signings and training.

since fm06 i've always had an easier time managing a small side. the same situations which have me pulling my hair out while managing real madrid etc, have me broad smiling while managing the likes of lancaster or leeds or west ham. my keeper actually gets MOM awards when managing a small side. while i get petr cech and casillas getting none.
for those who think the game is easy, have a go managing high profile team, a real madrid, or a chelsea. see what happens when you try to beat barcelona in la liga, or man u in the prem. sure some results would be easily obtained, but quite a number of bogey matches creep up in my experience.
