Default some questions reg. closing down, please help

hi guys,

i noticed that the slider for closing down has been named differently this time: own area-own half-whole pitch (or something similar).
my questions are:
1. does this mean, that closing down is automatically set to on for all players, any only "where it should be applied" can be changed?
2. if yes, how can i make a player not closing down then? e.g. one of my 2 central defenders shouldn't leave his post and another one closes down the striker coming
3. what does "own area" exactly mean? e.g. for my striker set to close down in his area means he should close down the movement of opp. defender or is it something else? And own half means that my striker should also help in defense, and only after in own half he starts to close down?
thanks for any response!!

I think the 'automatic' setting is whatever your team instruction is, unless you gave them individual instructions. Just click on a player and in their individual instructions tick the closing down box and adjust the slider to how you want it.

I interpret 'own area' as the player will only start to close down a player if they are in his teams' penalty box. In the case of a striker he should only really be in his own box for defending a set piece. 'Own half' a striker would only attempt to close down an opposition player (usually a defender) when the ball crosses the halfway line, but he won't go back and help the defence, simply patrol his area of the field depending on how you set his mentality.

1. It's automatically set to "mixed", or slider point 10 or whatever you want to call it.

2. Put the slider all the way down to number 1.

3. I always think of "own area" as the defending teams penalty area.

In my opinion, it's not exactly "closing down" that is the issue, more "positional awareness" of players closing down if that makes sense. Jimbokav1971 Football Manager 28 11-30-2007 08:08 PM
