I have tried a number of teams and players since buying FM08, utilising a whole host of tactics - none of which seemed to stop midfielders and strikers shooting from rediculous range.
Anyway, i've had a good look around the game and ready to start a long term game with my favourites - Danubio in Uruguay.
I realise the following is very basic and the general advice to stop long shots would be to slow tempo down and have short passing but for whatever reason, this particular tactic set up has worked very well.
I decided to stay relatively true to the league's style and play a very slow paced, short passing game.
Basic formation is 442 with barrow to DMC for one CM and farrow for the other CM to AMC, no arrows for anyone else.
Everyone's passing is set to very short and tempo very slow. The FB's have a more direct passing style (close to mixed). Apart from the CM who acts as DMC, all mids have mentality of 13 and same for strikers, normal creative freedom for mids and strikers, pos more for AMC.
The results have been very good, scoring a lot of goals, very few long shots and almost all goals come from well worked passing, scored within the box and by the stikers and my AMC.
I'll post up the tactic for other to check and see if it works for you too. Could well be my teams PMs i suppose.
Not read the post just the title. But lowering your creativ freedome and menality helps reduce long shots but not by much. I think the match engine is well made in this years version.
I actually see strikers with high decitions stat make the right move ..even on very high mentality and creative freedom. Ronaldo just scored 3 goals on 3 attempts in last match vs Atlanta
ehh that was Ronaldo from milan...we won 4 -0 vs Atalanta. 15 shots 11 on target..6 shots was blocked by defenders - those shots shouldnt be called SOT tho
