Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Can someone from SI please reply the 1 on 1 situation?

I am sure that i am not alone in this plea to SI. With my Sunderland team i probably get far to many 1 on 1's but my complaint is the amount that go straight to the goalkeeper.

ONE ON ONE'S: The theory...
Once a player gets through to a One on One situation, what is he likely to do?
In my opinion the goalkeeper must come to narrow the angle, because otherwise i would expect the player to aim at either corner for a penalty style attempt.
IF the keeper does come out then it should be these likely outcomes...

1) The player shoots at or near to the keepers legs.
OUTCOME: If it goes past the keeper then it should be a goal
Chances though include the keeper saving it with his legs to rebound anywhere. How many times have you seen that happen? I'm still waiting.
The player would knock the ball wide, pass the keeper then shoot, depending on the strength of his knock as some give to much power and leave a bad angle.
2)Not often seen as it requires more skill is a nice chip over the oncoming keeper.

I don't think these scenarios are used or certainly not enough in FM08. For me i find my players shoot straight at the keeper as if it was the ONLY option.

So my quest is to try to get a response from SI as to if this a bug. This is in no way being critical of the game or SI as they are the field leaders in the genre. In otherwords there isn't anyone else who has been able to do any better.
If it is an error in the game then please come forward and say so, don't fob us off with "It's not the game, it's your tactics" because that is crap.

No player(s) would fire 6 shots directly at the keeper regardless of form or morale.

I hope that the mods leave this open as i see it as a conscructive disscussion that needs attention concerning tactics.
I also ask that anyone replying that they also try to be constructive - don't just say... "yeah the game sucks".
I see it as a bad error but if SI reconise it and admit to it then we can move forward. Otherwise it causes frustration and mis-understandings.

There is a big HUGE discussion on one on ones in GQ and it HAS attracted attention. Incidentally it is something they are looking at. If you want SI to respond, I really suggest you take this there...and join that other thread.

There is a definite issue in my opinion on the games inability to distinguish between a good chance and a bad chance, really good clean through one on ones don't go in, but some really dodgy chances do. So this has to be addressed, and I know that by going to that thread in GQ which is now 5 pages long you can definitely contribute.

I doubt if you're going to get any more out of them. What you could do which is constructive and I have done so already is to post those one on ones which are clean through and post them in the bugs forum where they can be picked up. As always people need pkms to understand the issue.

PaulC replies to these issues and acknowledges the finishing accuracy can be better and defensive line is too slow getting back.

I also agree 100% about non-chipping keeper when very close and GK is rushing out and goin round keeper is very very very very rare,at least for me.
