i guess the title speaks for it self. i am trying to start a discussion about how to create a successful 3-6-1 which aims to be solid at the back, even more solid and creative in the mid field and consistently be able to score up front.
In real world, (even though not widely used nowadays) the formation is very solid and plays patient, not rushing things out, plays slow and wise.
Key Points:
- Goal keeper should be able to distribute the ball quickly and accurately.
- 3 defenders should be good passers. the ones on the sides should join the attack occasionally. the other one should be natural born leader as he will command the defence for playing offside trap.
- 2 dmcs are the heart of the formation. they have to win balls in the middle and give it to teammates asap. they have to be good passers. they will also act as fullbacks while opposition has the ball and attacking.
- wingers should be offansive players. they have to be able to use their own flanks. run with the ball and come to forward.
- 2 amcs are the stars of the team. they will make the difference from the opposition. technique will definetely be needed flair and on&off the ball skills will be important as they will dictate the offence.
- the lone striker will be someone who has a bit from everything. he wil try to make opposition deffence to make mistakes, play long senseless balls therefore our team will win the ball again. he will be a decent finisher. will score about 1 goal in 2 games but will be the top scorer as goals will be distributed equally throuhout the team.
therefore the aim of the tactic will be;
-score 2 or 3 goals.
-concede 1 (at most)
-play slow possesion football.
-play a lot of one-twos.
-play down on both flanks.
-no personal mistakes.
-patience
-joga bonito (play beautiful)
ok. these are the things i can think of for now as i am at work.
please share your ideas with me to create a nice tactic for everyone to make their teams play beautiful football.
i am sure we can put out something very nice together...
by the way the formation looks like this and i will keep you updated how i am doing.

Post Patch Project: Tyrin' To Create a 3-6-1 Post #2
ah,forgot to mention that it worked pretty well before the patch, after I didn't even bother trying (still trying to find a good 4-4-2,or 4-3-3 ). I scored lots and had usually 60% or more possession, but I just didn't like the way my players played (looooots of shots from outside, I mean like 35 per game.. ), so I gave up on it

Post Patch Project: Tyrin' To Create a 3-6-1 Post #6
I'd be very interested in a "back 3" tactic discussion (not a give me the link thread). I've been playing a 3-1-4-2 and variations on it, but it seems very difficult to have a successful tactic without a back 4 -probably that's the reason no many threads around deal with it. Anyway, I'm not giving up, hopefully we can get something really good out of this thread.
The first and evident problem with the 3 defense, it's dealing with opposition wingers. Hololoy, I find very interesting that the two DMCs work as fullbacks, I assume that curbs the opposition's penetration by the wings. Do the AMCs give enough coverage in the midfield?
Let's think what instructions will work for those 5 players.
Defensive Line: playing off-side trap and with the idea having the wingers/AMCs line close to the DMCs/DCs line, I assume high DL is needed, probably first notch of high.
Mentality: external DCs probably normal (first notch) if they are to get involved in the build up, central DC set to defensive (3 notches split?). For the DMCs, I'm not sure, probably they should be trated as fullbacks, with slider around the middle.
Closing Down: I think it should be low for the 5 players, with DMCs pressing a bit higher.
Marking: Zonal for sure for the 3 DCs (offside trap), and personally I don't think much of man-marking, so I would go zonal for DMCs too. Tight marking for all, except for the central DC.
Passing: With this, I was never satisfy in my old tactic. I would think DCs short and DMCs in the middle of the slider.
Creative Freedom: we should stay in the low side of the slider.
FWR & RWB: maybe external DCs half the slider, so they offer channels to build up the maneouver. Central DC and DMCs rarely.
TTB: All set to rarely?
We can go over the attacking players later, but to questions:
What would the Width for the team?
Hoholoy, what's the idea under the side farrow towards the middle for the wingers?
