Rep Power: 0 | Faroe Islands U-21/Full Squad v Denmark
The penultimate matches for the U-21 and full squads in their qualifying campaign took them on the relatively short trip to Denmark. With the Under 19's facing their own little qualifying group, players such as Davidsen and Joensen were sent back to that group, and with a couple of players also promoted to the full squad, it was a very makeshift under 21 side. They did though battle bravely, but the three year wait for a win is to go on for at least one more month, as Denmark ran out reasonably comfortable 2-0 winners in the end.
After the humiliation of losing 4-1 at home Israel, there was pride to be salvaged for the full side. Despite going a goal behind on the half hour, the pride was certainly being saved and there were some decent performances. Denmark though, chasing their own place in the Euro 2008 Finals, were to prove too strong as they doubled their lead on the hour mark. With 18 minutes left, Flotum did give the tiny Faroese contingent something to sing about, but their joy and hopes of a glorious comeback lasted just six minutes and in the end the 3-1 defeat almost certainly means the Faroes will finish bottom of their qualifying group.
At least things can only get better.

Rep Power: 0 | Faroes U19 European Championships Qualifiers 2007
A tough group awaited the young Faroes as they arrived in Macedonia to take on the hosts, the Ukraine and Russia. Last year Ukraine had inflicted a narrow 1-0 defeat on the youngsters, but this time round there was much more confidence amongst Faroese footballing supporters. The team to face the Ukraine in the opening match was certainly a very young one, but it was one brimming with possibly the best potential talent the Faroes had ever produced.
In Morten Larsen, Morten Clausen, Thomas Overgaard, Aki Joensen, Peter Damgaard and especially Anders Berg lay the hopes and long term dreams of a nation. All of these players it would hoped would continue to develop and fulfil their potential, but the biggest problem the Faroes would have in the future lay in their lack of depth.
Nevertheless, that would be the future's problem. This was now, and there was great belief that this team could upstage the biggest names in Europe and make of themselves a name. A final warm up at home to Senegal had resulted in a great 4-0 triumph, goals from Overgaard, Damgaard and a Berg brace handing out a warning to the three eastern block countries that they could underestimate this Faroese side at their peril.
Nine minutes into the match with Ukraine, Anders Berg underlined his status as the Faroese youth cult figure with a splendid goal, and just after the half hour Kaj Kjaerbo added a second. Three minutes after the break it should have been 3-0, but Berg's penalty effort was wide of the post. In the end though, a great performance, with Peter Damgaard taking the man of the match award and no-one could really be looked on as being a failure. The fact that the Ukrain had already beaten Macedonia 3-0, and that the Macedonia's had just held Russia to a 1-1 draw gave further credence to Faroese belief that they could get through this stage for the first ever time.
Hosts Macedonia really needed to win what was their final game against the Faroes, and took the lead on 20 minutes. This would be a test of character for the youngsters, and just three minutes later they were level through Berg. He it was who finally sent Faroe ahead just before the hour, a well deserved reward for a great display. Damgaard wrapped up the victory 18 minutes from time, and was then sent off eleven minutes later, meaning he would miss the final match with Russia.
The Russians 1-1 draw with Ukraine though, meant that by the time their match with Faroes came round, Ingi's troops had already qualified. The Russians needed a win to join them, but although the Faroese performance was not quite perhaps at the level of the previous too matches, they were still good enough to hold the Russians to a goalless draw - a result that meant the Ukranians would progress to the 2nd phase. In that 2nd phase, the Faroes would be off to face Germany - the hosts - Switzerland, and Scotland. It was a tough group again, but surely no tougher than group one, although this time only the group winners would go through. The Faroes would just have to be the winners then!

Rep Power: 0 | The Qualifiers End
For the final qualifier at home to Bosnia, and a friendly trip to Wales, a few of the U-19 squad were given the chance of their first full cap. Morten Larson, Morten Clausen, Aki Joensen, Thomas Overgaard and of course Anders Berg would all start against Bosnia, as would Kristian Hojgaard, Berint Andreasson and Tordur Mortensen. That of course depleted the U-19's somewhat, who struggled at home to Australia and went down by 1-0, but managed to gain a respectable 1-1 draw in Wales.
The U-21 side battled bravely against Bosnia, but in the end they simply weren't good enough and went down 2-0. Such was the weakness at this level, that the proposed match with Wales was cancelled. Of course, with the U-19's looking half decent, it won't be long before the U-21 side gets a bit stronger, but for now it remains very weak and it is now 22 matches without a win for them.
For the full team, the final qualifier with Bosnia was simply a chance to see who could do what, to try things out and see how it went. One minute into the match, the Bosnian's were ahead against a very young Faroes side and things did not look good. Anders Berg though was looking sharp through the middle, with Christian Holst moving out wide to accomodate the starlet. Just 10 minutes into his full international debut, Berg showed that his promise is not just air with a fine goal, and only two minutes later he scored a second. It took only another seven minutes before the stil 17 year old completed a fantastic debut hattrick, and for once even Holst was being totally eclipsed. No player had ever scored four goals in one match in the history of Faroes international football - on the half hour Berg shattered that record.
The second half was not quite so exciting as the Bosnians battled back, nabbing a second goal just before the hour. Berg, Overgaard and Bardur Jensen were all taken off before the end - Berg recieving a very well deserved standing ovation. Joensen, Larsen and Clausen all played very well and in the end it was an accomplished and professional win that saw the Faroes finish 6th out of the seven teams and so avoid the wooden spoon.
It was a confident squad of players that travelled to Wales, but in the end the Bosnian heights were never scaled and the Welsh ran out fairly easy 3-1 winners. Certainly this campaign could easily be looked at with dissapointment, bit the fact is there is now genuine hope for the future despite the Welsh result. If the young players continue to improve, then next time round some of the middle ground teams had better sit up and take note!

Rep Power: 0 | Fremad Amager 2007-08 Season - First Half
Although Fremad had been newly relegated from the Premier Division, not many people really gave them much hope of going back up. The new manager was hardly a huge name, and had hardly set the heather on fire with the Faroes. And although a lot of new names had arrived at the club, the most expensive signing had been 17 year old Faroese midfielder Aki Joensen. It was hardly the stuff to set the hairs rising on the back of your neck.
The season though started well, with back to back wins over Frederica and Herfolge and then an easy triumph over Thuro in the Cup. There was though to be no great Cup run, as Premier side Aabcame to Sundby Idraetspark in the 3rd round and although Fremad battled hard, in the end it was Aab who went through with a 3-2 win. The Cup defeat meant that the proverbial 'we can concentrate on the league' applied, and a run of four successive wins without losing a goal shot Ingi's young side to the top of the table.
Reaching the top was one thing, staying there was another. Three successive draws followed by defeat at Slagelse and suddenly the promotion challenge was coming off the rails. A win at B1909 was followed by defeat at Lyngby, but the first half of the season ended as it had begun with back to back wins, and Fremad sat in 2nd place as the League closed down until March.
On the playing front, from a Faroese point of view there was a lot to be pleased about. Berint Andreasson was doing very well in goal, Morten Clausen was anchoring the midfield like a veteran despite his youth of just 17 years and of course up front Berg and Damgaard were providing the goals - eight in sixteen games from Damgaard, and twelve in the same number from Berg. There was still half a season to go, but Fremad were right in there in their quest to regain top league status.
