There is, on the awards page of the FMS site. I deliberately didn't link to it because it might spoil this for people who have never read it. Also, there might be inconsistancies and I don't want people pointing them out
This will be more of a story than the original ever was. Personally, I thought most of the original was utter rubbish and have always wanted to re-do and this seems to be the best way |

Rushford & Diamonds?
Still, comedy errors aside , another viewpoint on possibly the best CMS story of all time is bound to be a success, and I'll be reading...
...even if it is basically a plant for next year's awards |

Jason had plenty of time on his hands due to not playing very much, and it was therefore probably of little surprise that one morning at breakfast Bethany informed him that she was pregnant again. They had always intended a second child, and Jason's only really worry was that it would be born in England. He half joked that perhaps Beth might want to go back to Scotland for the birth, a suggestion which she herself did not actually laugh at.
If like on the park - or rather the bench - was not going as well as Jason might have liked, then at least life off it was. Gavin Kelly and Bert Stokkinggreef were becoming firm friends and they would often spend a night down the pub together, or even occassionaly at the casino. Gavin was a gambler, and Jason found that this was also something he found enjoyable. The thrill of the roulette wheel, the cards turning over, just the prospect of beating the banker, filled him with a feeling he found hard to describe. It was almost better than scoring a goal. But not quite. Dave Green encouraged his players to socialize, and though he did join them occassionally, he was not a regular attender at players social events. It would not be seemly for the players to get too familiar with their manager. With Jason on the other had, it was a different matter. The two had struck up quite a rapor, and even though he was not getting any playing time, his friendship with Green only grew stronger.
Yet the manager had promised him he would get his chance, and eventually again he did. This would be the first time Jason had played in front of his home support, as Scarborough came calling on Conference duty. The side were flying high, but the fixture schedule was hectic and was too much really for the ageing Bert Stokkingreef to cope with. His Dutch friend on the bench, Jason was determined to once more make a claim for a regular start but within twenty minutes the visitors were two up and this was not quite the home debut the Scots striker had envisioned for himself. The players simply had to roll up their sleeves, and roll up there sleeves they did as Jason headed home his 4th goal for the club from a corner on the half hour, and young co-striker Rigby levelled the match only a minute later. Somehow though the side, which had been top of the table, could not find anything to lift them in the second half as Scarborough scored twice more and the Avenue fell to second successive defeat. Jason Young, despite scoring four goals in his two matches, had yet to appear on a winning side.
To his great surprise and joy, Jason was named in the line up to face Northwich Victoria away. Looking to prevent a third successive defeat, Jason was determined that he would continue to bang in the goals and surely the manager would not be able to drop him. Eight minutes into the match, a cross in from youngster Mark Batty was almost perfect for Jason to run onto and he no bother in slamming the ball past the helpless keeper for his 5th Avenue goal. As his team pressed forward time and again, it seemed they must score and although two reasonably easy chances came and went, the second goal finally came and Jason was now looking for his second hattrick for the club.
The hattrick though was not to materialise. Patrick Vrijssen grabbed a third after the break and as the Avenue ran out three one winners, so Jason Young was finally able to celebrate being on the winning side. With six goals in three starts he could not but help have impressed his manager and surely now he would get a decent run in the team. Yet with Bert Stokkingreef back to full fitness, Green prefered to go with the tried and trusted Dutch duo, and Jason Young found himself back on the bench despite having done nothing wrong. Then again, as the duo would contribute 63 goals between them in the season, it was probably impossible for the manager to drop either of them and Jason would just have to be content to pick up the scraps. For now.

What-ho! Been a while since I was "active" in any way other than posting my ongoing borefest, but thought I'd take a read of this as I never actually read the original at any length.
Good stuff, naturally

"United" imples that a team was the result of a merger between two or three clubs during the early League shakeout (1880's-1920's) when many teams simply could not survive financially.
There's your uselss historical tidbit for the day.
Good story |

Occasionally, I'll post a League table. I can do this because in the original I did it and it will help cement into the readers brain whats going on. Or something. However as I am lifting it straight from the original some of the early tables may not come out right as I did not know how to use the code function at that time English Conference - Sunday 15th October 2000
