The greatest little fire

My name is Macsen Vaughan Hadyn Davies and I will be the best footballer from Wales, Ever, and most likely the world. I am 15 years old and should already being playing professional football at the highest level in my own opinion, my debut season at the age of 14 in the Welsh league for Newport Ymca is a feat in it self, but this story shall have a brief view of my past and will concentrate on my present. I will be great, I know it and so will the world and through this journal they will come to know all I accomplish.

My Life till now:

I was not planned to be on this world, I believe I had a higher calling, but my young mind, body and soul was determined to keep me here to do great things. This is the first part of my story as told to me by my late father.

My very first setback happened while my dad was driving mum to the hospital, it was New Years Eve 1990 very close to the new year of 1991,she was having massive pains but she was only 5 and bit months pregnant, when she passed out in the car, my Dad trying to look at here and apparently shocked by the bloodloss, clipped something on the road, lost control and overturned the vehicle, He doesn’t remember anymore than that, He he lost his wife and my mother that same night.

I was removed from my mother on the stroke of the new year and not given any hope to live, I was tiny, my vital signs were near non existent but i kept going and for the first 4 months of my life my skin burnt from fever like I was on fire, my prognosis was not good, But live I did, my will and fight to live astounded everyone, it was six months before I was named by my Father because couldn’t bare to name me if I was not to live for any length of time. It was a year before I left the hospital.

The nurses called me Vaughan which means little, until my Father named me Macsen Vaughan Hadyn Davies, roughly translated from welsh into ‘The greatest little fire’.

The very last words my father spoke to me on was this story I have just told and the words ‘Even the smallest flame can turn into largest fire, do not let your fire burn out as mine has done son’. When I awoke the next moring I found my father swinging from the rafters. A note given to me by my Aunt who took over my care was instructed to give me this note 10 years after his death. It was now the second of July 2006.
And this is the note

Quote:
Great things will become of you son, I am sorry I will not be there to share them with you, but my grief has been driving my soul from this body for along time and so I will finish the task, I will not ask alot of you or even to remember me at all, all that I ask is that you write a journal to keep your thoughts in them, one day you will look back upon them with joy I am sure.

Always in Spirit
J.P Davies

That Welsh is ********, but this seems a really interesting little concept, and having worked at Newport YMCA for a while while I was at school, I am of course looking forward to what happens here

* Im not welsh myself obviously, Im Australian and the name was done with a bit of background checking, Macsen meaning 'The Greatest', Vaughan meaning 'Little, small' and Hadyn meaning 'Fire' and Davies being a common name in Wales. The Dialect is not suppose to be done in Welsh as i couldn't do it the justice. I might add something where the Aunt is English or Australian and living there to make it a bit more believable. But sorry for any mistakes and of course non of it is based on real life. *

Myself

I stand at 153 cm’s, I weigh under 60 kilo’s I may not be big or strong but I move like the wind itself, in any direction I feel, I can outrun, outlast and anticipate anything my opponent’s dish up, I will not get flustered, nor will I sink to their level, I will be gracious at the end of the game, but they will be in awe.

I will be work hard to be the best I can become, the team is secondary to what I can do, but they will benefit immensely from my talents. People of all types will be struck by my creativity, my flair will dazzle, the skill and tricks I possess will astound all fans, these fans will hang on everything I do, I don’t care where the fans are as long as they are mine.

My opponents shall be humbled as I beat them constantly and they will feel the bite of my tongue as I let them know, officials will also feel my wrath when they do me wrong but they too will be dazzled. I will not jeopardize my career over one tackle be it small or large, it is neither here nor there if I run back and lay a tackle for my team, and if it is deemed so crucial than my team has already let me down this is not me or my area this is a defenders.

I will be bigger and better than my Idol Mr Ryan Giggs. This is me this is who I am
People will remember my name.

*Another Writers note* – this character has by no means the highest stats in the world but you can tell which ones are decent from the text above This is what he believes , the one thing he does possess is the best potential possible. This is a player character piece and ill see where it goes it might lead into a Managerial role who knows, it’s just something different.
Hope you enjoy

No offence meant at all mate, was only being pedantic And you may well be right to be honest, as my Welsh is far from great

This remains a very interesting concept. Looking forward to it.

A Brief History 6 -15 years old

Upon my father’s burial, my Aunt Cheryl brought me to a little island in Australia called Tasmania this was to be the place that I would live through my junior years. It is freezing cold when I first get here, winter is summer, summer is winter, the opposites of what I know in Newport from our little rural house, but the weather is sort of similar a couple days it would be sunny the next it would rain and vice versa, but I have never been as cold back home here in Wales as I was down there during some nasty Winter’s the weather was more extreme there, here we seemed to be sheltered more.

The good thing is we move to a place called Claremont which has the big chocolate factory called Cadbury’s. The bad is that there is not much football or soccer as it’s called here, the game that’s called football is an Australia rules version where everyone on the field can use their hands, I can’t believe they have the gall to call it football!! What’s next a game that is predominately played by throwing the ball around and they’ll call that football as well ??.

School was ok, having a funny accent a lot of people liked to talk with someone out of the norm, but mostly I kept to myself through the years, with some investigation from my uncle, he found me a junior soccer club that had Under 7’s right through to seniors. Metro Claremont it was called and we played on North Chigwell oval, well the senior and reserve teams did, we played on the junior grounds close by. Football was what I lived for and I practiced everyday ( I still do) but being so small people wouldn’t take me seriously but when I was making the junior representative teams for years above me some people started to take notice. With specialist coaching I was progressing beyond anyone in my age group and with the solid training Metro’s was prepared to give me a run in the Under 17’s when I was 14.

My Uncle was diagnosed with cancer before I could play and so we came back to Wales to live, as this was his home, Wales born and bred he was, Cheryl my auntie was the Australian. That was about a year and a half ago, my Uncle has beaten the cancer for the time being. My Auntie went back to voluntary work over here and was teaching some things at the YMCA this is when I ran into a man called Darren Porretta when I was practicing out the back waiting for my aunt to finish, he was a player coach and convinced me to come down and train with some youth sides.

I played a couple of junior games before the season finished, needless to say they were impressed, as all are that see me and I’ve been there since, a whole year now. I played the last year managing 22 games and scoring 4 goals and I helped them to win promotion to the Division 1 this at the age of 14/15. I am now 15 going on 16 in the new year and I am looking forward to helping them to get to the pinnacle of the Welsh Competition, I will play Under 19’s this year as well as Seniors but they are trying to get me to sign another contract, I signed one already last year for this year and my Uncle says I have the talents to play better quality and quite frankly so do I. I will consider writing to all the English Football Youth Academy’s this year so I can go play there. School is no longer an option I will be a professional footballer no matter the cost.

2006/2007 Season – Newport YMCA

It’s July I am playing another season here in Division 1 trying to get the team to the Premier Division, I was mislead last year thinking that Division 1 was the premier Division, but I didn’t research enough so there for its my fault.

Mark Colditch (Manager) and Darren Bidgood (Asst Manager) have been pestering me to sign a longer contract, my Uncle thinks im stupid if i do, and i agree, I am easily the best player out there and deserve more than they are offering.

On Wednesday 19th of July they offer me a 2 year deal which I again tell them no, I wont consider playing for that little and I definitely want more appearance money when I do play, they say no, it’s a good deal, no one else is on that much they tell me but I’ll never sign it for that much. They get frustrated and go away.

Training is intense during the pre-season but I am getting a lot fitter and my skills are always improving I am the best thing in this team, they know, I know it, I will leave onto bigger and better things, the sooner the better i'm thinking.

August is a lot of training aswell but I’ve improved again and we have a friendly coming up against Welshpool Town, if I can impress in that I will attract attention and hopefully get my career started in the big leagues.

Thursday 3/8/06

The Welshpool friendly was earlier today, and I must say I was clearly the best player on the field, I had the right back in all sorts of trouble he had to be subbed in the 33rd minute and another came on too man marked me, It did them no good I set up both our teams goals with perfect passes and we won the match 2-1. I get the official Man of the Match certificate as well, surely they must all of noticed my talents, but no one talked to me today about playing for a bigger team. I will await to here from them in the next few days

Our season starts in Under 19’s and were two from three, once again I dazzle, smashing in two goals and two assists, with more games under my belt I am getting better all the time. Seniors starts soon and I am looking forward to stepping up in levels, I have no word from any clubs yet but ill remain patient.

Mark the manager tells me to play a few more U19 games before he will call me up, and I do, at the end of the month of August we’ve played 6 games unfortunately were still on two wins, I keep setting up these idiots but they miss goals that my aunt could put in, what can I do, I can’t do it all myself, I get the ball, run with it, beat my opponents at will, only to hit the perfect pass and these people are too lazy to get to it or when they do they fire it at the keeper or they miss completely, it’s very frustrating but I say nothing to my team about the disappointment they are causing me, and soon i will be in the seniors so all is well.

September, Mark once again offer’s me a new contract, once again I say no, He then tells me if I don’t agree and sign the contract he will leave me in the U19’s for the year, I scoffed at him
“If you want to win, you’ll play me” I told him.

The seniors keep playing with out me during the month but if I was playing they would be top instead of 4th, and with the cup game at the end of the month they’ll definitely play me if they want to win. In the U19’s I can’t get over the level of incompetence from them, I am hitting the best passes around and these guys are too lazy or too useless to do anything with them, my passing percentage is dropping badly because of these guys.
We are very lucky to scrape two wins and now we have 4 wins from 10 games.

No call from Mark and the seniors take the pitch with out me for the cup game, they deserve their 1-0 loss we could have easily won the game, and ill be sure to let Mark know what a big mistake he’s made.

October brings another 4 games and we manage to win another 2, but I am working my but off, teams are avoiding playing it down the left or their right as they know I will decimate them, so I move myself into the middle to get more play. The coach tells me to play my position but I’m forced to do this so we can win.

November brings a change as the Newcastle boss is sacked, which reminds me I must start my applications to the English Academy’s, its obvious I far exceed anyone’s skill here.

I run into Mark early on in the month and immediantly he puts it to me “Want to sign a new contract?” he asks
“Not if it’s the same as the last” I replied
“Have fun in the U19’s” he retorted, I can't believe this idiot would sacrifice his own team but I have the last word though which brings a smile to my face “Good luck in the first division next year when you fail to get promoted” and with that I leave.

5 games and 5 wins I am back, I don’t get the accolades I should but I orchestrate the wins with superb anticipation and my passing is great aswell, I cant believe these refs aren’t giving me the man of match awards, everyone knows Its me holding the team together.

Winter arrives with December and once again I dominate 4 wins from six matches and we’re looking a lot better in the division sitting in 5th place 15 wins in 27 games. I’ve picked up a slight niggle in my thigh but I’ll work through it before the next game starts, I’ve accumulated 4 yellows now all from these fat arse’d refs that can’t keep up with the game, if they were closer they’d see the clear fouls that I take and I don’t mind telling them that as well, that’s when I when get the yellows.

News years eve is pretty boring at the House, the Aunt and Uncle are just sitting around talking so I lounge around watching English football all day, during the night I watch video’s of games i've recorded but manage to see a news clip in which Ronaldinho picks up the World Football Player of the year award for 2006, that award will have my name on it a few times you can count on that.

Hehe... it's really fun watching this, I know Mark, and to a lesser extent Darren... out of interest, what is the chairman's name on your game?

I'm no linguist so I wont attempt to comment on translations. I do like the fact that you have managed to create a name with a meaning from a rough translation. It's a good angle for a story and and a good start. Good luck

*Viv Edwards is the chairman’s name. I thought these guys were in the league when I first started for some reason which has proved to be a stumbling block getting reports, but also it allows me to provide a bit of insight into his attitude while playing Under 19’s*

January 1st 2007 my sixteenth birthday, There is no sense of excitement for me on my birthday, instead it’s full of doubts about my prospects, hopefully this month would prove more beneficial, to make matters worse it’s a horrible day and the frost on the ground makes kicking the footy around annoying.

My aunt and uncle take me out for the day, but most things are closed for the holiday we stop by and have a look at Tredegar House, Cheryl tells me it’s apparently the grandest of all council buildings in Britain. ‘Well there’s something that I was dying to know’ I think to myself, and for the life of me I can’t see why I’m out here sight seeing on my birthday.

We went to the acclaimed Celtic Lodge at lunch and spent the day there, Cheryl and my uncles present for me was to eat at a place called Owen’s it was hard to get in here, as it’s usually closed on Monday’s but today was a special function day it was acclaimed to have the finest dining in Newport but I’d prefer a more substantial meal, again I wonder why am i here, do they honestly think I care about where I eat, I’d rather stayed at home and watch the footy. I wont say anything as they seem to be enjoying themselves, after the meal they hand me an envelope, it has the title deeds to the family house, which is being kept in trust for me till I am 25.

My dad also had amassed some wealth in his time, and another Trust account had been set up, and on my sixteenth birthday I was to start receiving it on the proviso I was in school or earning a living. If I was in school the amount was significantly higher but the other amount was nothing to be sneezed at, This was actually a good present as now I could pursue my dreams without having to worry about the money aspect.

This has me thinking about signing a contract with Newport, one more year wont hurt and if the team makes it into the premier league then ill have a better chance of getting recognized, I’ll think about it in the future.

[b]January[/B} drags on and playing in this side is killing my spirits down, we are one out 5 for the month, and the win comes on the last game of the month were I single handedly win the game scoring another two goals from solo efforts. After the game a strange man with an English accent starts talking to me about how I like playing in the Under 19’s when I should be playing seniors, I assume it’s one of Marks stupid friends trying to be annoying, this makes my mind up I’ll retire before I sign another contract here.

“Look tell Mark to p*ss off, I wont sign that stupid contract and so I’ll play in the under 19’s till the end of the year and then I am walking, I don’t care where I go but anywhere is better than this craphole, now if you will excuse me, I must go”

“I’m sorry” the man says “My name is Dennis Carragher and I work for Lincoln City in England, I watched your game today and I think you have some talent, I was just sussing you out to see how you liked it over here and I think you answered my question for me” he grinned.

He continued on for a while explaining that they were in the second division in England although struggling a bit at the moment they were looking for someone who could play on the left with a view to the future. I told them I could be that man and I’d jump at a chance to go to England and play.

We exchanged numbers and he said he’d get back to me within a few weeks, I didn’t realize he was sitting in the stands in our next game in February with another man but once again I was dynamite that day, this time setting up a few goals that the oafs up front managed to put away for a change. The other man was a guy called John Schofield who was the manager at Lincoln, he was very impressed as well and we went over the preliminaries of a contract, I didn’t care I’d play there for free just to get away.

As it turned out I would go there next year and be earning 350 pounds per week, this was great, he said he’d rotate me through the squad and I would play a minimum of 25 games for the year unless injury hampered me. I cannot write in words at how I feel at the moment.

A few weeks later and me still on top of the world, Danny the scout from Lincoln rang me and said that John had been sacked from Lincoln and they were going over my contract to play next year, there shouldn’t be too many problem but a man called John Deehan would ring me soon to go over a few things. This had me a bit down I was looking forward to the move and now it might not go ahead.

John Deehan didn’t ring me, instead he turned up to see one of my games luckily I played ok and he seen that I had talent, Lincoln were going to honour the deal that was made, but he couldn’t guarantee what my role would be, I told him I was just happy to play for the team. He seemed happy with that and he would arrange the details of my move in the coming months, he wished me luck here for the rest of the season and with that he was on his way.

I finished the season playing 42 games 33 of which were u19 games the rest were cup things and various sorts of friendlies, my stats weren’t great but with decent teammates next year they would improve drastically, It was all starting for me. Soon I keep saying to myself, now playing in England I would get noticed a lot easier, By time I was 20 I wanted a regular spot in a senior team in a World recognized club, these were my goals.
